My favorite manga, after Berserk. I remembered this and... man, one of my favorite scenes. Do you like too? I think it's one of the few comics that I recommend, none of the chapters is useless to me, they are all tied up, man, it's very good.

Guys, I´d rather just keep muskets out of the game. Sort of medieval fantasy is all I need. Muskets ruined Mount&Blade too, that is why they are not having them in the next installment.

*"Fen'Harel enansal" echoed in the ancient chamber, then a silvery flash of energy illuminated it. Caius stood before the Eluvian eyeing it satisfied. Energy rippled across its gleaming surface, forming peculiar forms and shapes. "It is beautiful" Nazlik gasped, "I am thrilled to do this love. I didn´t think we would get around to do this" she said with a hint of reproof in her voice.
"We are just going to a small reconnaissance trip. Look around, make some notes and then come back" Caius said turning to her, "after that we can go further".
Nazlik grinned at him, "oh so that is why I am carrying this bag. Good thing you are such a gentlement. Two bags would have been heavier for me".
Caius raised one eyebrow at her. "You were the strong one, remember?". She pinched at him through his robes. "I will show you strength".

Caius smiled, "alright beautiful, lets do this". He took her hand and walked through the Eluvian Nazlik in tow.

On the other side a shadowy realm opened up before them. A lingering mist floated everywhere preventing them to see in the distance. Numerous Eluvians stood around them in the distance among strange tree shaped figures. The land beneath their feet had sand and cobblestones, like something someone had once done out of the stones, but now was broken. "Remarkable!" Nazlik whooped. Then she turned to him, "do you hear that? My voice has an echo!". She giggled at that. "Echo, echo, echo!" she started to chant.
"Hsss!" Caius said calming her down gazing carefully their surroundings, "we don´t know what else lies in here, what ever this is. Who or what might be listening. But it is magnificent" he granted, "absolutely magnificent".

"Bah!" Nazlik waved her hand dismissively, "don´t be such a dullard. Next you want to turn around and return back".
Caius eyed her sarcastic, "alright my brave warrior, let just search around. Wait". He turned around and cast a spell. A glowing mark appeared on the side of the Eluvian they had come through, then it slowly disappeared. Then he pulled out a pitch black stone of his pocket and dropped it near by.
"That should do it, I have now two options to find our way back should the landscape change somehow".

They walked carefully towards the other eluvians. For a while they kept searching around this strange place. Then stopped to eat some and after a while continued their search.
Even time seemed to stand still here. "Where do you think we are?" Nazlik asked him, "I am not sure", Caius said contemplating. "It looks like the Fade but it is not. Something is different. Like we would be in between...". He touched the ground with his staff drawing a line in the sand, "I though the Eluvian would take us directly somewhere but I did't expect this even in my wildest dreams...".

Caius touched each Eluvian as they passed and cast a spell on them. Then he tried to open them with the command words.
Many of the Eluvians just stood there, completely dead despite his efforts, but some reacted. Nazlik picked a stone from the ground and threw it through one of the mirrors while it was on. Caius quickly said the command words again closing it. "Don´t do that. We have no idea what is in the other side" he said to her.
"I´ve got nothing to worry about" she said teasing, "I have my own Magister to protect me".

A wry smile appeared on Caius face, "we should still remain cautious. Next time we will try one of these, where it leads".
"There is one more thing we could try while we are here..." Nazlik said touching his arm with a suggestive smile.

Suddenly Caius turned around in haste, a massive lightning arc shot from his extended arm. The lightning crackled across the space strangely muffled cracking a piece from one of the Eluvians near by and disappearing into the misty void.

"Why did you do that for?" Nazlik said surprised. "I think I saw someone from the corner of my eye, a bald elven man. Staring at us". Caius said after observing carefully of their surroundings. "Must have been nothing..". He gazed again around suspiciously for a while, "I think it is time to return now". Nazlik snorted at that "it is so cool in here! Can´t we stay for a while more?".

"Next time" Caius kissed her, "next time my love. Then we will stay even longer". He smirked at her, "and I will carry my own bag too".
He cast a spell and in the distance the black rock started to glow next to the Eluvian they had come. "Time to go home", he said.*

Like it? I love it, and I'd prefer the manga version or Brotherhood that is an adaptation of manga over 2003 version though. I remember this scene, it was one of emotional and my favorite scenes. I also like Berserk, but hate the direction of where this manga is heading, and the indefinite hiatus as well.

Fullmetal in my opinion is very much about altruism and egoism, for example, he wants to be the Fuhrer, because he can help his people and he want it, BUT ONLY HE can do it. No one else. And that is one of few mangas that I have read with something western and not eastern, not that I do not like the east, I am eastern myself, but what I mean is that came out of that stereotype of sakura, samurai honor, etc. The story could very well spend in a country that was equal to Japan, but not, Arakawa preferred to pass in country similar to ''Nazi'' Germany. There are multiple reference to the period, such as Drachma (Soviet Union). And I say, Fullmetal alchemist is the best shonen of this decade.

I'm not too familiar with Arakawa's work, but I get the reference that at least Amestris is a close parallel to Weimar Republic while its military forces share similarity to attires by the time of WWII, and Ishvalan culture is based on some Middle Eastern cultures. Some of my favorite manga is Arakawa's works such as Hero Tales, Gin no Saji, Fullmetal Alchemist, and work from other author such as Bakuman, Cat Sh*t One, MAOYU Maoi Yuusha, Peace Maker, Otoyomegatari, Ookami To Koshinryo, Beserk, Übel Blatt, Zipang. That quite a long list isn't it?

I only know Bakuman, Gin no Saji and Berserk on your list, I will check the others.

Yes, all the characters are like that. I think Riza and Winry are the only who are just altruistic, the rest, everyone wants something in return, which is also a recurring theme, ''the equivalent exchange.'' Perhaps one of the most iconic phrases for me in the anime of 2003, opening scene. I even liked the 2003 anime, I was very young at the time and only spoke Russian, so I had trouble watching TV in the open here. But I still remember everything, of course today I will never watch it again, I do not want to spoil that memory. I remember, I wrapped to watch Brotherhood after seeing the film that completes the 2003 anime, I thought it could not be better than that.

In Brotherhood if I'm not mistaken we have two episodes that not ''run'' the story. The First and the assault on the train, even those two are important. Although the first one is filler , does not exist in manga (including , I bought all the volumes that in a Japanese neighborhood near here, too expensive T_T ) This episode you have an idea of ​​what's going to happen in the rest of anime and its is remembered more later.

"And here it is. Priscilla, is the base set?" Grigor gently lifted a bundle of azure cloth from the chest. Severus looked across the sea, toward Seheron. Dark clouds were rolling in.

 

"Yyyyyes." Priscilla firmly shook each segment of the pole, testing its stability. A sudden gust of wind up the beach yanked a wisp of her black hair from beneath her headscarf, "Looks like a storm is coming in."

 

The dwarf cocked his head up, squinting as he looked skyward, "Hmm. Do you think rain might cause a reaction?"

 

"Uh."

 

Severus glanced over his shoulder, toward the assembled agents, "Should we postpone the testing to another date!"

 

"Oh, by the Stone, no." Grigor unwrapped the cloth, revealing a metal case. The case was shaped like an egg, save for a handle at the top, and a short rod at the bottom, lined with rectangular protrusions. "Now, technically, a mage should be able to complete this part of the assembly. But, first test and all, I'll just handle this part. Safety first."

 

Priscilla pulled up a stepladder before the pole. Grigor ascended the stepladder, standing a head above Priscilla at the top. He fitted the case onto a hollow fitting atop the pole, linking a ring of interlocking metal teeth. He flipped two latches over the teeth, one on each side of the ring, fastening the case to the pole. Finally, he twisted the handle at the top, pulling off the metal shell and revealing a crystal of meticulously-carved Lyrium within.

 

"See, you don't want a mage handling the cask of blue stuff unless they are properly trained."

 

"Or a genius."

 

"Yes, a properly-trained, magical genius." Grigor leaned over the stepladder, giving Priscilla a peck on the lips.

 

Severus cleared his throat, "Wonderful. So that is raw Lyrium? Curious, I don't feel-" Priscilla placed her hand on the device, casting a spell. A charge permeated the air, traveling up is spine, hair standing up at the back of his neck. "Ah."

 

Grigor started back down the stepladder, "Did it do the thing?"

 

"Yes. Invigorating, is it not, Imperator?"

 

"That is definitely Lyrium, yes. Though, I figured there would be more of it, given the expense."

 

Grigor pulled the stepladder away from the device, clicking his tongue, "Well, you've got Lyrium threaded all throughout the rod. But it's not about the quantity of the stuff, but the way it had to be cut, the placement and size of the runes. It's a bit like a Dwarven lock mechanism on the inside... only, you know, infinitely more complex."

 

"How does it work?"

 

Priscilla delicately weaved mana, causing ripples of light to appear, as if bouncing off an invisible sphere that surrounded the device, "Are you familiar with the Citadel Dacorrin... ducar"

 

"The Citadelle du Corbeau? In Orlais?"
 

"Yes! It shares similarities with that. A mage, or mages, standing within the, erm, harmonic chamber, can--that's inside the circle, please step in the circle--they can channel mana to the crystal, using the tonal field to concentrate and direct a torrid, destructive arc of magical energy." She smiled from ear to ear.

 

"Multiple mages can use it at the same time?"

 

"I calculate a maximum of four, for an optimal generation of energies without overloading the tonal field."

 

Severus glanced at Grigor, who was nodding vigorously, "I see. How do four mages direct a single beam?"

 

Grigor and Priscilla looked at each for a moment. "Well. Imperator."

 

"That is precisely what we intent to find out."
