*Mucia gazed at Cassia casting her spell in the training room. "No no silly girl! You will only exhaust yourself with that. You need to focus on the energy more, you can´t control the flow otherwise". She was annoyed and frustrated, neither of her daughters seemed to have the skill their father had. And the third one was even a mundane! What a shame. Mucia tapped her feet in the ground wrinkling her brow, "do it again. Until you get it right". She turned annoyed "where is that stupid slave?".
"Here my lady" a elven girl appeared in the room from the hall with her head bowed. "Bring me wine" Mucia snapped, "and remember to make sure it is cool or I will have you whipped".
The elven girl bowed and ran from the room. "Why is it so hard?" Mucia complained seeing how Cassia´s new spell dissipated. "It shouldn´t be with your blood line".
"My lady, here is the wine". The elven girl appeared next to her holding a tray with a wine bottle and two cups. Mucia grabbed the ready cup set for her, "put the tray on the table and leave us". With a bow the elven girl left the room. Mucia took a sip of her wine eying Cassia, "no no, must I do everything here? Let me show you". She placed the cup on the table and stepped forward pushing Cassia aside. "Look how..." she raised her hand but suddenly staggered. She placed her hand on her chest, "I feel strange...".
"What is it mother?" Cassia gazed at her concerned, "should I call a healer?". "No, I am just fi.." Mucia started to say but was cut short falling down to the floor.
"Mother!" Cassia screamed running to her.
Dark clouds covered the sky. First heavy drops of rain fell down carried by the rising wind on the crowd gathered by the gigantic pyre. Chantry brothers and sisters had just finished their sermon and chant for the departed. Cassia stood forward, raising her hand. A fire appeared in the bottom of the wooden structure of the pyre. Zera and Miriel rushed to hold her as she fell down on her knees weeping.
Caius stood silently in the first row wearing his best robes leaning on his staff along with the other members of the household. He gazed at the flames with a blank expression. Gallus Nepos stood behind him in a glimmering armor standing in attention. A fully armored guard stood in attention around the pyre. Members of the Magisterium and Senate were located in the left side of the family. The house of Florus was located on the right side. Magister Manius Florus, the old father of Mucia stood there with his white hair flowing in the rising wind supported by his sons. He gazed the flaming pyre with tears in his eyes and then turned to look at Caius.
Old man pushed his sons away and started to walk towards Caius. He saw him coming and turned to see him, "thank you for joining us in our hour of...".
"You killed my daughter" Manius said silently, he raised his shaking hand and pointed Caius with his finger, "you killed my daughter you monster!" his voice rose high breaking.
Caius eyed the old man with cold eyes, "I would advice you not to accuse me in public, I would be honor bound to challenge you to a duel otherwise. But I will let you pass now because of this sorrow which has so suddenly struck us both".
"I am not afraid of you" Manius said with a shivering voice, "I knew the first moment I laid my eyes on you that you were not right. I knew you would be the death of her. Those soulless eyes, what are you?".
He bursted in tears, "I knew there was something wrong with you, oh why did I take your fathers deal". His sons rushed to escort him back to their family. Tiberius, his oldest son bowed slightly to Caius, "I apologize for my father my lord, please forgive the old man for his sorrow. He doesn´t know of what he is talking about". Caius nodded, "think nothing of it. I understand".
The pyre fire burned slowly out. Part of the ashes was gathered in a elaborately decorated urn and sent for the family mausoleum. Heavy rain poured down from the sky like a sign telling everyone it was over driving the crowd away. Nazlik stood in the back row watching the burial. She had no love for Mucia but her death did not make her happy either. She felt bad for her daughters in their sorrow. When Caius walked by her she turned to follow him. "I hope you did not have anything to do with it" she whispered at him. "No, I had nothing to do with it" Caius said calmly walking towards the family cart.*
