First arc

Monkai stood by the window of his office looking at the apprentices gossip and practice their magic. The Neromenian circle was different from the numerous circle, while minrathous had class and beauty the neromenian was more practical and humid. It reminded him of Rivain all that was missing was the smell of the sea.
"This a nice place away from the politics and stagnant air" he said giving a sigh of relief

"Your running away again... you promised!" the seductive yet furious voice shouted. Monkai's mood grew solemn knowing why he took this transfer, he'd come to tevinter to escape his past and the war in the south weaseled his way to his station married into a house he felt no real affiliation for protection against those who sought tear him from his new life... it was a pitiful existence for one like him.

"I know...but this for the best for both of us people are starting to suspect and my research on possession has drawn less than stellar comments."

"I am Scorn and I will not be denied my due, I will not hide like a rat in the street" the voice spoke growing irritated by her partner's weak will.

Monkai knew she was right he had already given up his blood magic, Demonology research, and training methods he was shadow of what he was. Just then the door to his office slammed open as a contigent of guards swords at the ready "First enchanter Ragin Monkai you are under arrest stand down and come with us" the leader of the group said.

"First; I expect to be reimbursed for the door and second; on what charges?" monkai responded hiding his growing anger. " kill them... devour them... scorn whispered into his ear.

"Crimes against the imperium, consorting with multiple enemies of the imperium and corrupting the youth of the imperium" the guard spoke. "Least they didn't fInd out about falsifying citizenship papers" ninja humorously thought. "Yeah I'm not going with you gentleman I'm innocent feel free to show yourselves out"

The guards then decided to him by force the first three moved in surrounding him. They weren't templars simple soldiers that even in his languished state could take on... but monkai hated unfair fights and this felt odd few knew his connections... "Fine if you so persistent I'll go just let me leave a note for my assistant"

He does have a powerful and influential father-in-law if you want to use that in your story.

*Miriel sat in the garden watching butterflies play around the flowers and the fountain. She stared at the ancient walls around the yard wringing her hands.

Caius sat next to to her on the marble bench. For a moment they sat there in silence. "So, tell me what is in your mind. I was told you have not been in the archives since that incident", Caius said softy.

She gazed at the garden silently for a while then whispered with a weak voice, "I am afraid".

Caius reached out and grabbed her shoulder pulling her to his side, "I know, it must have been frightening". He squeezed her for a moment.

"I promise to you, I will never let this happen again. You and your sisters all have now several personal guards who follow you everywhere".

"I never thought it would be possible" she said silently, "not in my wildest dreams. I never gave any thoughts for it, though I have lived my whole life behind walls and armed guards. I know I am a daughter of a powerful and influential Magister. A member of a ancient Altus family. Worst possible thing in such life became reality in one horrifying moment".

She turned to him and wrapped her arms around Caius pressing her head on his shoulder. "That man really wanted to kill you, someone really wants to kill you. It frightens me so much. I am a mundane daughter of a powerful Magister and I don´t know how to defend myself. They grabbed me like I was a nobody". She let out a muffled sob against his robes.

"Being a mundane is not something new in our family" Caius said calming and stroke her hair.

"Don´t you remember, there are several members in the Vaellanius history who have been mundanes and achieved great things. Faleria Vaellanius for instance, she was a mundane and became a general and was a mighty warrior. Her heavily runed two handed war hammer is still in the memorium hall".

Miriel snorted, "I am a archivist. Am I supposed to fight with a runed quill?".

Caius smiled, "good thing you have not lost your sense of humor. Archivists are important too, as much important as warriors. If not more, they keep the Imperium running".

Miriel rubbed her eyes, "what if you die? What if someone murders you like mother was murdered? I have never thought of a life without you, you always have everything under control. I would be lost without you":

"Nonsense" Caius said grabbing gently her chin, he turned her to look at him in the eyes.

"It is true that my life has brought me many enemies, and it is true that one day I might die. From various reasons".

She closed her eyes and her lips started to ripple foreshadowing tears.

"Miri" he said steadily, "you are a strong person and you do not need to me to keep things running. It is just called a habit. If I die you will take control of things with your sisters. Simple as that. You are not me and your life is your own. You have no enemies. This all happened because of me".

Miriel nodded and buried her head to his robe, "just promise me you won´t die".

Caius stroked her hair, "I promise". They sat in silence watching the butterflies twirl in the air.*

I mentioned this before, i think, and I did mention this in the thread in the feed-back channel on ideas to take away from the Witcher. But assuming we go to Tevinter in DA4, I am hoping that we get Minratheous to be a fullly fledged out living city like Novigrad is. Where you could see priests of the imperial chantry giving sermons, slave markets, mages practicing their spells, people just living out their lives. 

 

I also mentioned that I want to see Tevinter in all its glory and horror; ie make it out to be an Empire but not one filled with evil von evil mustache twirling evil guys/gals, but actual people, some good some bad but people.

Say what you want, but you do have to admit for all of the talking and posturing seeing those dreadnaughts sink from a few measly fire balls from some random robed mages was quite funny.....or sad   You have to give some credit.  Qunari are still good for something.  Excellent comic relief no doubt.
