Im curious if say a mage mates with a elf and they have a child are they stigmatized or are they added to to mage's house like a human child

the Imperium is all about mage pedigree. the house itself would lose some stature (if it had a strong heritage) for the fact your adding blood who's history is unknown to your family which may decrease the odd's of producing a child with the gift.

not the fact that the person married an elf. In fact if it was a house of mundanes and a magi child half elf or otherwise was born as a result that house would be elevated to the Magi class.

Obviously if it were a dalish or a slave certainly friction within the house would be enormous. but given most marriages are arranged someone marrying an elf would have to have the backing of the house (or presumably they'd be disowned) and for that said elf would have to be of some pedigree.

In fact given the circle system in the south, any approved marriage would probably worse then a elf from a tevinter family purely for the fact most Magi in the south have no clue who their parents are.

Magic I understand is far more important than race. Any offspring of human and elf pairings are still human, they will be stigmatized and mocked for their half breed status, but so long as they have magic, I generally don't see any fault. Feynriel was elf blooded and a foreigner, but due to his status as a Dreamer he became apprentice to a Magister. Varania was an Elf and would have been apprentice to Magister Danarius had he reclaimed Fenris. Genealogy is an important aspect when arranging marriages, not to mention financial and political gains.

I wasn't sure that's what it was. Carry on. I like the idea then. ;) I haven't become attached enough to anything to RP around here.. My loyalties keep jumping around. Maybe the Dalish, I guess.

I concur with magister Ukki. The bulk of our military efforts should be focused towards wiping out the Qunari. The south is currently embroiled in civil war, with the white Chantry having fallen to pieces. We do not have to worry about a united military effort from there until they have their own crisis resolved. The Qunari maintain united, and will move once they see us moving south and their religion, while preposterous, finds great traction amongst the slaves. Eliminating them will both relieve us of a massive pressure and erase a great risk of slave revolution.

Kossith slaves also make the finest of workhorses, so there's an added bonus there too.

As for the Inquisitor... if we can get him to our side, he could be a magnificent asset. However as of now we do not yet know on which side he stands. If he turns out to be loyal to the White Chantry, I doubt he will be willing to assist us.

He currently seems rather obsessed with closing the breach. A move I find myself rather distastefully short-sighted. This breach is the finest method of entering the fade our world has ever seen. To close it without further study means wasting one of the greatest chances to regain the fade we have been offered in centuries.

I propose we focus our military efforts north, while our scholars are send south to learn as much of the breach as they possibly can. That way, should the Inquisitor manage to close it, we will at least have gained something out of the endeavour.

What? I take my leave to tend to some Chantry matters, and I come to this?

Are we really trying to redo the mistakes of the past?

No, I see that we are not fully trying to redo them, but crossing into the Fade was a foolish endeavor that almost bankrupted our nation, with countless slaves needlessly slain for the hubris of the ancient magisters.

Should we still study the Fade? Absolutely. Should we question the Inquisitor? Ironic, but I agree. However, let's take heed of the lessons of the past and not be too hasty. It was the trickery of the Old Gods that led to Tevinter's fall, and with the Qunari at our door we cannot afford another misstep!

Perhaps we should not look for the Old Gods. After all, the Wardens should know more at this point, the nature of the darkspawn, and perhaps they are right in their plans for the remaining Old Gods.

But I have often pondered, Hessarian and the first disciples of Andraste, were they not redeemed? Did not they turn from false gods and embrace the Maker, who embraced them? What of the Old Gods? It is uncertain how in their current state they witness the world, but perhaps if they were more like the mortals of this world, perhaps they could also find redemption? I've heard rumors that the Warden who slayed Urthemiel may have survived, something unheard of in history... What could have happened? Was there something different about this last Blight? As our records show from the first Wardens, a warden would be killed after killing an Archdemon... it is all so curious.

As others have mentioned, though, we should keep our eyes to the north. The south is in chaos with the southern Circles in rebellion, but the Qunari may see this as an opportunity and we must be vigilant. The south at this time must deal with its own issues, after all, they do not wish us to help, but it is good to hear some citizens of Tevinter have taken it upon themselves to help this new Inquisition.

Well, that's all I have to say.

(Ugh, this is just a bit too rp for me, I'll keep it much shorter next time and just do what I've previously done, take a side and semi/quasi-rp it)

I just stress caution. It is just a waste to see such promising scholars, mage or not, blow themselves up because of their impatience and disregard for safety.

Even with Avernus my canon Warden stressed ethical research to avoid any screw ups if possible. Better for new knowledge to come in gradually than to cause a possible disaster.

Knight's Tale was entertaining.

So starting a new conversation anyone worried about this?

tumblr_n7aw6aX1jR1tecfg4o3_500.gif

The breach cuts all the way to Minrathous but what worries me the most is that Seheron and Par Vollen isn't shown... and this is especially a bad thing to happend in Tevinter. I fear those heathen oxmen will take advantage of this...

Redemption, magister Daerog? What redemption did Hessarian and his band of priest-killers ever receive? Sure, the Chantry claims they are at the side of the Maker now, but the Chantry has always been reluctant in providing any substantial proof for their claim. As they are with any of their claims, for that matter.

Let us look at the facts here: the Chantry has kept us in a cultural, magical and technological deadlock for a thousand years. It does not promote a scientific investigation of our world, it promotes blind adherence to doctrine. Even the Qunari with their blind adherence to their dogma and stifling of creative thought have made more technological advances than any of us under Chantry yoke.

Yes, our first foray into the Golden City had disastrous consequences. Such is the risk of science and exploring the unknown. But to let this cower us and never approach the subject again? That helps us to nothing. Mistakes were made, we must learn from them and try again. Only then will we be able to advance.

Well, I would guess that Tevinter would have an easier time with the rifts compared to the other nations... although, they may have to deal with some in the government turning into abominations, which would be pretty chaotic... hmmm... Well, it will create more room for some of the lower classes to climb up I guess...

I don't know who adheres to scientific investigation in this world. This whole world sucks at it.

The main thing Tevinter doesn't want to investigate is if magic has a price (especially blood magic). They just declare things OK, or jump into things headlong, and think caution is for the timid or weak or deluded. That's not science. It's a belief.

After just finishing Last Flight, this especially sticks in my mind. I don't know if you've read it, so I won't spoil.
