This would be a good Origin to put in a game.

Wouldn't it be interesting if you could start out as an apprentice and have to choose a Magister? It's not really in the scope of a DA game, but it would be cool - the choice you made would affect which side you were on, your allies, etc.

Somniari are a bit OP though - I only chose it because I needed a reason to put her in the thick of the magisterial conflict, and because of the Lore. Trying to make her vulnerable, or it would be boring.

Yes, I believe they will return the origin thing.

So, Red of Rivia, who is your character? Is he a human who follows the Qun?

Oh, Monkey filled me in. Is Red still preaching? Elowyn could have an interesting debate with him about slavery.

How about Nazlik? She came to Tevinter through the slave process.

That would be perfect! A good way for them to get to know each other, too. Not exactly a fun outing, lol, but you know. Serious topic.

Wonder what they slave auctions look like I'm thinking something similar to the southern united states in the 1800s

Probably, people in chains standing on some platform. Buyers checking the goods, so to speak, and arguing about the price with seller.

This was one of the saddest things I came across while doing research.

This one in particular struck me as an example of the indignity of human bondage:

Sale Ad by Wm. S. Jones of Vaucluse placed 21 April 1826 for "remarkable likely servant, 19 yrs old,  has been brought up in the house and is one of the best dining room waiters in the state.  He is now in the jail at Leesburg and can be sold on application  to Marshall Jones or David We. Barton Esq. In Winchester, Frederick Co, either of whom will state his character when applied to.

If we are using Rome as a model, I was reading a letter in which a woman complained that her sister-in-law had sent a pretty slave girl as a gift calculated to sabotage her marriage. The patrician woman tried to sell "the pregnant ****," but couldn't get a good price for her.

This is interesting and could be worked into a story:

Servi poenae were persons whose crimes caused them to be reduced to slave status, in a process known as capitis deminutio. In the Republican period, this penalty could affect draftdodgers and those who eluded the census. Later on, dediticii – free people of ‘infamous’ status – were to be sold into slavery if they entered a 100-mile radius around the city of Rome. Other targets of this measure included free women who cohabited with a slave against his owner’s will, and egregiously ungrateful freedmen

-The Roman Slave Supply

Here's a market in Algiers. I'd expect something similar in Minrathous.

I didn't know that!  Here's a blurb on public slaves in Barbary:

Spoiler

Do the qunari capture slaves and use them to row their ships? Or are they nominally "free?"

This one is for Red of Rivia:

Ibn Fadlan's Account of the Rus

I find it fascinating!

"The Rus are a great host, all of them red haired; they are big men with white bodies."

"When a great personage dies, the people of his family ask his young women and men slaves, "Who among you will die with him?" One answers, "I." Once he or she has said that, the thing is obligatory: there is no backing out of it. Usually it is one of the girl slaves who do this."

*prays no one will ask this if Caius meets his end*  Though we drink to his long life, of course!

Krem mentioned something bout servus publicas basically state slaves that function as part of the system but no details.

And qunari basically have slaves due to using qamek (basically super tranquility)

Oh, the Ukrainians. Interestingly, as the ethnic groups are mixed and I end up not being Slavic.

For your first question, I suppose he does not do that anymore. But he's not slavery fan, you can still discuss with him.

I still say this should be the conclusion of any "Slave" Origin in the game; It's basically the defeat of the Ultimate authority of the institution of slavery  :P

The general who became a slave.

The slave who became a gladiator.

The gladiator who defied an emperor.

Striking story!

But now, the people want to know how the story ends.

Only a famous death will do.

And what could be more glorious than to challenge the Emperor himself in the great arena?

I mean it's practically required from Bioware for the Archon to die at the hands of a mundane little slave.

Idk required seems cliche.

It's a common dynamic theme in Bioware games.

Kill Sun Li: Become Emperor

Kill Malak: Become Sith Lord

Kill Darth Thanaton: Become a member of the Dark Council

Kill the Arishok: Become Champion

etc

So i'd say it would be well within their playbook.

Oh! I thought the Rus dispersed into Russia. But I know practically nothing about this, so forgive me - I must have been thinking of Monkey's Viking comment. You wouldn't happen to be Erzya, would you?

For the 2nd, perhaps Nazlik and Elowyn could bump into Red when they visit the slave market.

Well, it depends, but I believe that I am descent from that Rus. If you take into account, they were swallowed by the Slavs  and ended up becoming Slavs, as well as the Germans(not the nazi) and so on.

*snorts*

More like the imperium rips itself apart in another civil war.
