I am intensely, geekily interested in the movement and mixing of peoples! I discovered, much to my surprise, that I have a little bit of Finnish in me. I even have DNA cousins there! It's a mystery.

“I had the strangest dream last night,” Aurelie was saying to Caradoc when Elowyn entered the breakfast room. She turned to bestow a withering glance on Elowyn. “I’ve received a message from Magister Vaellanius,” Aurelie said. “You are to enter his service.”

 

Having expected a dressing down for her transgression, Elowyn was taken aback by the quickness of the decision to send her away. “He bought my contract?” she asked.

 

Aurelie enunciated each word slowly and clearly, “I will do anything to protect my son. Go to your room and pack your things, and get out of my house.”

Vaellanius Manor

A Vaellanius servant led her to a small chamber off a long corridor and left her there. Elowyn rearranged some books on the desk, then sat down on the narrow bed, deflated. What had she gotten herself into? She’d discovered that she was the most junior of the many apprentices belonging to Magister Caius, apprentice number 31, in fact. More mages than had been resident at the Circle in Montpellier. It wasn’t quite what she had pictured when she’d endured the Magister’s chilly interview at the dining table.

 

Once again, she was alone in a strange place, and this time, she was facing a crowd a people who viewed her as competition to be eliminated. She looked at her hands and wondered if she had the strength to survive this new situation. There was a knock at the door. She opened it to find Vel Barrius, whose face lit up when he saw her.

 

“May I come in?” he asked.

 

“Of course! Welcome to my castle,” she said, “Let me show you around. Here is the bed, and here is the desk, and here is the wardrobe that is expected to contain my entire collection of ballgowns, day dresses, mage robes, leather armors, dancing clothes, night gowns, corsets, skirts, petticoats, small clothes and thirty pairs of shoes!”

 

“Maker’s Breath! All that for one tiny elf?”

 

“Well, that’s a small number of shoes, it’s true, but I’ve only been in Minrathous for a few weeks. There hasn’t been time to shop.”  Vel laughed, and Elowyn cracked a smile.

 

“How are you though? Finding your way around this enormous house alright?”

 

Her face fell a little. “I don’t know, Vel. I’m feeling very small.”

 

“Come here,” he said, and opened his arms. She nestled against his chest. He enclosed her in his arms and rested his cheek against her hair. She could hear the beating of his heart, slow and steady and reassuring. “You’re going to do fine,” he said, “and I am here to watch your back. I won’t let any harm come to you.”

 

She hugged him tighter, then looked up and said, “I want you to **** me.”

 

“What?” he said in surprise.

 

“Help me get this corset off!” she demanded.

 

“I- Okay, got it!” he reached out with deft hands and began working on the corset. “So many hooks!” he exclaimed. She wriggled out of it and began unlacing his trousers. He pulled her chemise over her head, she yanked off his boots, and he slipped the pins from her hair so it felt down to her waist in a red torrent.

 

He traced her collarbone in wonder, “Such skin! It glows silver like the little moon, Satina.” She smiled and kissed him, and he raised her, light as a bird. The pain was intense, but lasted only a moment as it merged with the deeper ache inside her. She felt the sweat on his skin, and tears began streaming down her face and he faltered a moment. “Are you okay?” he asked, and she said, “It’s just that I feel so happy!” He kissed her and tasted the salt of her tears, and when she came, it was as if her self diminished to a tiny spark as it merged with something greater: their two selves, entwined, and he poured himself into her.

 

They fell on the bed, arms and legs around each other. She kissed him and felt her soul at peace, that this moment could sustain her through whatever trials were ahead.

it would have a wonderful night zera had stopped by giving him news of the main house, a reunion with with red, and scorn had been quiet for days. The only thing that was ruining his night was his keeper

"Makers breath clean this place up theres alcohol and pipe ash everywhere and it smells like sweat" cassia ranted. She was miserable staying in this place with a monster not only was she with a unknown variable it was never hygienic. Monkai felt the same it was bad enough he was under suvaillence but to be near a shrew of a woman was growing... unpleasant

"Your free to clean up if it bothers you so... but I think your father is waiting for his staff polishing" he said plopping onto to the couch

Monkai sat in a field of grass the smell of it was soothing. Scorn laid next to him playing a lute. She was happy that things were normal again. The dream darkened it then went brighter that the sun.

Monkai woke up to the door knocking it wasn't rude sounding but it was definitely demanding. "Go away I'm really hung right now... and not in a good way" he said rubbing his head .the door pounded harder.

"Vhendhis monster will you not get it" cassia said storming out her room and down the stairs. She opened the door showing a messenger from darkon

The tavern was medium-sized, one dump on the edge of one of Minrathous alleys. The tavevern didn't has a good reputation and was often frequented by bandits.
- Did you  found he? - Asked the dwarf, he has a red beard with an orange ton. - I think it's been a while since I see Monkai.
- Mhm - Red swallowed some beer, was not to his liking. - But I have not found the lady, she was not with the Monkai.
- Maybe I should wait a bit - suggested the dwarf. - Must be busy, things change since you left.
Red agreed.

- Sad - the dwarf sighed with melancholy -  Anderfels pressure is killing me.
Red motioned the waitress, would like more a pitcher of beer.
- This is my last - announced - I do not want to take your time.

- I need to go too - Red argued, as the waitress brought the jar. - For the old days.

The two separated. Red went to the slave market, seeking to negotiate the purchase of some elves. In the crowd he saw an elf preaching the Qun, no guards dared to interrupt him. Red went near the elf and recognized as a viddathari . He did not stop him, he decided to just look in silence, as he remembered the good times.

A porter stopped Elowyn in the hallway. “Message for you, ser,” he said, handing her a scroll. The porter was a small, tubby man with gnarly muscles all covered in hair. “I didn’t know there were dwarf slaves,” she said, gaping at the pelt that ran seamlessly from his neck down onto his chest. “I am an elf, ser,” the man corrected. “I see,” she replied, eyeing his small, rounded ears. “Thank you for delivering the message.” He ducked his head and walked off, whistling.

 

The note was from Aminia:

 

Come to the slave market. There is an abolitionist preaching the Qun. Meet me by Ser Galatea’s stall.

 

Elowyn decided that asking permission might result in denial, so she waited until the guards had passed by a forlorn section of the garden and fade-stepped out into the street. She was just turning the corner when a shadow loomed up behind her. She turned to see Caius’ Qunari woman blocking out the sun.

 

“Going somewhere?” the woman asked.

 

“Just doing some shopping!” Elowyn replied cheerfully. “One can buy so many things here in Minrathous – it’s amazing!”

 

“Mind if I come with you?”

 

“I’m meeting a friend – another apprentice,” deflected Elowyn.

 

“I’d like to meet this friend of yours. I haven’t met all of the apprentices yet. Which house did you say she served?”

 

“I didn’t,” replied Elowyn bluntly and scowled. ‘Fine, let’s see how you enjoy this shopping trip,’ she grumbled to herself.

 

The woman fell into stride next to her. It was comical to see her have to shorten her steps to match Elowyn’s pace. She shone so brightly, it hurt to look at her, all covered in silver and gold armor. ‘Caius must have spent a fortune on that,’ Elowyn considered. ‘He must value this woman a great deal.’

 

Elowyn heard the slave market before she saw it. The air was filled with the voices of men haggling, vendors calling, and people crying. The plaza opened out before her, the largest open place she’d seen in the city. Slave dealers stood here and there in front of groups of people in chains. The entire plaza was surrounded by buildings holding more slaves.

 

“Did you know that I was bought from here?” the Qunari woman asked Elowyn, who realized she hadn’t even asked her name. ‘How rude of me,’ she thought, feeling chagrined.

 

“I’m sorry, I didn’t get your name,” Elowyn said, suddenly feeling differently about the woman, knowing what she must have suffered, and that Elowyn had dismissed her in her mind as another slave. ‘I’m becoming like them,’ she thought, ‘I’ve stopped seeing the slaves as other people.’

 

“My name is Nazlik Beres-taar,” she said.

 

“How did you come to this place, Nazlik?”

 

“I was captured near my home. The raiders target fishing villages and arrive early in the morning. Sometimes they wait until the men are out in the boats, then take all the women and children. I was alone though, walking on the beach, thinking about… a dream I’d had. I didn’t see them in time. There were too many of them, and they had a net.”

 

Elowyn had to pause and focus on a cloud in the sky to stop the tears threatening to fill her eyes. The idea that this strong woman could be brought down, captured and trussed like a halla attacked by shemlens horrified her. “Magister Caius found you here?” she said hoarsely.

 

“His slave procurer,” Nazlik replied. “They were going to send me to work on one of the farms.”

 

“But the Magister saw you,” added Elowyn.

 

“He did.”

 

“That slave procurer must be blind,” said Elowyn, “Anyone could see how amazing you are.”

 

“This market is full of beautiful and talented women,” said Nazlik.

 

Elowyn tried to take in the hordes of people, each of them with stories of sorrow and suffering.  It was overwhelming. She wanted to go Kirkwall on this place and burn it to the ground.

 

“I can’t save them all,” she said, feeling defeated.

 

“Even if you bought every one of these slaves, the market would be full again tomorrow,” Nazlik replied.

 

Elowyn saw the preacher, standing on an apple crate, holding forth about the wonders of the Qun. She thought it was suspicious that the guards would let him spout off like that in front of everyone. She decided not to approach him – he was probably a plant to attract idealists, who could be picked up and thrown into the city dungeons – or chained to an oar.

 

“Do you know where Ser Galatea’s stall is?” she asked Nazlik.

 

“Look at that family!” Nazlik said instead, gesturing to a mother with two little children. “They are going to split them up – the mother one place, the children to another.”

 

Elowyn felt her coin purse. She might have enough. She’d been trying to save coin instead of spending so much on shoes. She felt ashamed that she’d wasted her money on luxuries for herself. She went over to the slave vendor.

 

“How much for this family?” she asked. The man looked her up and down, assessing her wealth, she supposed, or maybe putting a price on her body.

 

“Sixty coppers,” he said.

 

‘So little for the lives of these people?’ she thought. She had only forty-two coppers. She hadn’t saved enough. She cursed her shoes.

 

“Would you take forty?” she asked.

 

“You can have the kids for that,” he shrugged.

 

A bystander chimed in, “Don’t waste yer coin, lady. Ya gotta feed ‘em and clothe ‘em, and ya can’t work ‘em so hard, or they keel over.” He made a farting sound with his mouth and flopped his hand over to symbolize a collapsing child. Elowyn looked at him in disgust.

 

The mother looked at her with desperation in her eyes. “Please ser, you look like a kind person. Take my children.” Elowyn thought her heart would break. She took a slip of paper from her purse and wrote on it:

 

Vaellanius Manor, Minrathous. Ask for Elowyn Adaran.

 

She handed it to the woman. “Keep that safe. When you know where you’ll be sent, have someone write a message telling me where you are. I’ll save up some money and come get you.” And send a lightning bolt through your master and give his farm to his slaves, she thought to herself, gritting her teeth. She gave the woman a copper to send the message, hoping the slave vendor wouldn’t take it from her. She held out her hands to the children. They were reluctant to go with her, but the woman urged them to let go of her skirts, tears streaming silently down her cheeks. Elowyn saw that Nazlik was crying, too. Elowyn handed the forty coppers to the vendor, who gestured to his guards. They wrenched the children away from the mother and pushed them at Elowyn. The children were wailing, the mother was on her knees. Elowyn held one of the children and took the other by the hand and turned away.

 

“The Magister will be furious,” Nazlik whispered to her.

 

“The Magister can go suck a nug,” retorted Elowyn. “They can sleep in my room and share my food. I don’t eat much.” Nazlik frowned but made no further protest.

 

Elowyn bought each of the children a sweetroll with her last copper. They tore into the rolls like they hadn’t eaten in days. She scanned the crowd, hatred flashing in her eyes. Her gaze fixed on a very tall man covered in red tattoos. He was squeezing the breasts of a girl who couldn’t have been more than fourteen, just like a man buying a heifer. She flicked her hand and cast a small wave of force that swatted him in the back of the head. He stumbled forward, knocking into the girl and banging his nose on a column.

 

“Oops, that was a little harder than I’d planned,” giggled Elowyn, feeling a tiny bit better.

The invasion of Suna acting in concert with Orochimaru had not been a surprise to him; No given that he had learned that the Sannin was behind the formation of Otogakure and had entered into dealings with the now deceased Fourth Kazekage it had been merely the only predictable avenue. But the so called "Konoha crush" had failed spectacularly for reasons that despite his vast network of spies, informants and Zetsu's own considerable skills he knew only a few of. From what he had been able to put together from the event; Sunagakure had been meant to provide the majority of the forces which would be bolstered by the smaller addition of shinobi from Oto.

 

The linchpin of the invasion however was what truly caught his eye.

 

The Ichibi, the One Tailed Beast, that had been critical to the entire endeavor and while his sources confirmed that indeed the Jinjuriki had been present it had promptly been defeated before it could even inflict minute damage upon the forces of Konoha reportedly at the hands of a mere Genin something that had caused the crimson haired God himself to raise a brow. While the damage Konoha had received from the invasion had been negligible it had not been left entirely unscathed. Indeed it had not been so fortunate; It's long ruling lord: The Third Hokage himself was reportedly dead at the hands of his own former student Orochimaru.

 

If that report was to be believed...he owed Orochimaru a favor; he'd consider that debt paid when he killed him swiftly rather then drawing out his execution with more painful and lingering manners of delaying death that were available to him. That power vacuum within the Leaf would work to his advantage, they'd be solely focused on merely managing the internal affairs of the village for the immediate future until a successor was found and that left Akatsuki far more room to maneuver within the land of fire then it had in entire history of the organization.

 

It was a opportunity that he couldn't, wouldn't overlook.

 

It was finally time for the Kyuubi to find its way into his hands.

 

This time there would be no interference, no subterfuge from Madara; he would order the infiltration himself with the clear and express purpose of capturing the tailed beast and it's container.

 

Yes this would not be a repeat of twelves prior, this time he was the one directing things behind the scenes.

The ominous words rung out across the distance traveling as far as they were required to reach the intended parties; distance was no obstacle for this manner of communication and given this pair's completion of their assignment in the mountainous Kumogakure no doubt they where likely going to arrive back upon the mainland continent well within this particular operation's time frame unlike Hidan and Kakuzu whom he assumed where still chasing down bounties to bolster the Organization's coffers further up north and Sasori and Deidara who he assumed where still within Iwagakure completing their own assigned tasks far to the west.

 

Yes the Kenjutsu and Genjutsu specialists would more then suffice for his purposes.

monkai and cassia had arrived at Aurelia's estate it was different in the day... much more decadent. "Is it wise to be here" she said knocking on the door. "I'm a free agent in need of coin living off my book won't last long and I refuse to be a jester. Your free to leave." He replied.

Aurelia sat in her chair with caradoc and darkon behind her as if expecting another display. "Well young man how are you" she said with a posh tone, her retainers stood ready

"I'm fine.. your letter said you had a job... what is it"

"I want five hundred thousand upfront another five hundred thousand after.... and any demons or banits two thousand... each" monkai said walking to the table.

"My what steep prices you don't even know the job it could involve you dying" aureila said smiling at his direct nature. "The job is to aide my son in his experiment. Purely medicinal and to handle any... unpleasantness."

"Whats the procedure? " monkai asked

"Making more of those like you... the transcended, evolution of mages is near..."

Monkai reeled back in disgust what he was was a choice based on mutual need. What she was asking was insane beyond comprehension. "You want to mass produce.. abominations... your batsh*t insane..."

Aureila sat in her chair writing a writ "here's a advance... think about it "

Monkai took the writ feeling disgust at the job and left with cassia in toe swearing every word he knew.

"Will he take the job.. it will be most advantages if he does." Aurelia said twirling her quill

Well thank warder for the idea bout 4 months ago there was a talk of biological sciences and he made a interesting point bout red lyrium being made "safe" (though Idk enough of that stuff to use it in the story but it did inspire )

Making red lyrium safe sounds like a pipe dream, but stranger things have happened. Elowyn's trying to figure out how the taint, lyrium and possession intersect, but she's been a bit distracted from her research. *stupid handsome rogues and magisterial conflicts grumble grumble*
