Poor Batzas! I really feel sorry for him. He just wanted to hang out in the country and make wine, and now he has Cassia and a crazy arm.

Tbh I enjoy characters that suffer from the equalvilents of schizophrenia and disassocive identity disorder. It's a fascinating spectrum of the human condition. What causes those, how effective are the treatments, should force medicate those who can't afford/won't t take them.

I have a friend who's almost completely paralyzed, so I spend a lot of time thinking about what she's going through and what sorts of devices engineers can make to allow her to function more independently. We don't see disabled people in DA games (do we? maybe I'm forgetting), despite all the violence and wars. How much can magic heal? The physician in Skyhold talks about scientific methods - interesting to examine the intersection of magic and medicine.

I wonder about that, too. When that physician talks about scientific methods as opposed to magic, my first reaction was "Why would it be better in a world where magic is an actual thing and works?". I understand that it's so that healers are not restricted to mages only, but I didn't like the way this physician said it. If only healers were better appreciated.
As to how much magic can cure, I guess it depends on how skilled is the healer, and the type of healer... spirit healers are the best and very versatile, can probably heal things others can't, but they are rarer. And healing seems to take a toll on the healer, if we go by what we see in Dragon Age II.
Makes me wonder about some things:
-How healthy should a healer be in order to heal others? Wouldn't trying to heal others when you're weak have a lessened effect?
-If a healer is sick or hurt, how easily can they cure themselves?

I would go with the power level and endurance of the mage in question. I think that would put the limits of the mages capability in healing.
And at least Batzas doesn´t have to worry about ruling the family. Cassia will do it for him. ![]()

I'm looking forward to Elowyn getting to know this side of Caius. Maybe she can be a healer of sorts. ![]()

I felt the same way! It just goes along with the mages-are-scary-and-evil trope if you get rid of healing. Besides, science can let us down when people give up hope - medicine doesn't have that one figured out yet. Mages are more sensitive to emotions (represented by spirits and demons), so it follows that mage healers could bolster the spiritual well-being of the injured and ill. I think this is an excellent aspect to explore - it was only briefly touched upon in Asunder.
I think healers need to draw on their own mana to heal, and being in pain or sick would interfere with this ability. Some also have more talent for it than others.
