Adiatorix I Megas, registering my support of and admiration for the last and greatest hope for Thedas. I also feel that even the renegade "Magister" Calpernia is of far greater interest and importance than anything that the South could hope to provide. 

 

The architecture of the keep and Servis' outpost in the Western Approach is fascinating. Do we know if it is entirely Teverene, or somewhat Dwarven also?

 

The Teverene Dragons must be freed before the monsters of the deep can corrupt them.

Entrance Cavern

 

"Well this is it?" Hidan questioned aloud staring out at the cliff face coated in luscious green plant life and the very large waterfall raging in the center of it.

 

"Yes. This is it." Kakuzu replied in a rather uncharacteristic seemingly almost timorous tone as his eyes scanned what had once been a familiar sight to him, what had once been something precious to him before his village had imprisoned him, tortured him and then tried to kill him for failing to assassinate the strongest opponent he had ever faced.

 

The First Hokage, The so called God of Shinobi, The man's very name brought Kakuzu's masked face into a twisted grimace.

 

That battle had been a doomed affair from the beginning-Hashirama had simply been too strong, his wood style too lethal and despite all of his youth, his ability and skill...he failed, he had to flee the field to escape with his life but even then it had been a trying affair that left him near death as he made his way home barely escaping the newly formed Land of Fire with his life. What greeted him upon his return though? Accusations of cowardice, betrayal and treason, he was to be punished for failing his mission, for failing to 'honor' his village and die where his station dictated him to, on the field in service to Takigakure.

 

The day when they threw him into the prisons beneath beneath the village it ceased being a home to him, the people of it ceased being friends, relatives and comrades. That day he had been beaten, bloodied and tortured and the following day he was supposed to be executed as a traitor to the village, he refused to die, to be die meant that his life was worth less then the propaganda that would not doubt be spewed to distort the mission for the sake of historical posterity.

His life was worth a lot damn more then that to him.

 

In the darkness of that cell he found his resolve and when they came for him in the morning he let himself be led out to the courtyard overlooked by the village head's residence and despite his brutally maimed and wounded body he broke free, killed his captors and in the melee stumbled upon what was to be the technique for which he would become infamous across the Great Five, the Earth Fear Grudge.

 

He then killed all of the village elders, stealing their hearts and thus their chakra affinities for his own, that had been more then seventy years ago by this point and for the first time since he had 'defected' he had returned to his former home.

 

Hidan caught on to the shift in mood and raised a brow at it, in the years he had been partnered with the old fart of a treasurer he had never heard anything resembling nervousness coming from him.

 

"What bad memories?" Hidan inquired in what Kakuzu almost could have taken for genuine sincerity if he hadn't seen the corner of Hidan's lip twitch upwards slightly.

 

"More then an overgrown man child like you could ever know." Kakuzu seemed to reply in his familiar terse manner his pupiless emerald eyes narrowing slightly.

 

"Oi ****-" Hidan ranted before was cut off by the arrival of the next part of their little expedition to Taki.

 

"Hidan...be silent." Pain intoned, his blank speech pattern giving the command in it's usual lack of inflection.

 

Purple eyes widened in shock while Kakuzu merely gave a grunt of amusement, Their Leader was quite adapt at masking his own chakra signature but there were faint traces of it if you knew what to look for, and after all his time on the various battlefields of the warring clans era, the decades of bounty hunting that followed had honed his own sensory and perceptive abilities to the highest extent they could be without him solely focusing on sensory based jutsu...and his own time with Akatsuki he had come to know the Leader's chakra well.

 

It was cold, inhuman and monstrous. That thought however was still something that troubled him despite his lengthy tenure with the organization, he still had just no idea what sort of abomination Pain was...He was obvious far beyond a mere human, even a shinobi and his abilities and chakra indicated he was even more mutated and deformed then Kakuzu himself, not to mention those other bodies...

 

"Leader." Kakuzu acknowledged as the Auburn haired Shinobi took up his place in the center of their gathering, his own partner: That blue haired woman-Konan if he recalled right her name was merely standing at his back.

 

"Right, Well since his royal highness is here can we finally get this **** show over with?" The masochist priest groaned out.

 

"As soon as we deal with them Hidan." The Leader of Akatsuki quietly intoned.

 

"Deal with..." Hidan was cut off as six masked shinobi decked in the standard Takigakure black Jonin flack jackets and olive toned undershirts fell upon them each descending from surrounding trees. Several possessed visible weaponry such as sheathed Katana or Tanto but there was no effort to draw them, clearly these Shinobi underestimated the 'visitors' at their door.

 

"What." Hidan finished lamely one his thick grey brows furrowing in annoyance.

 

The Waterfall shinobi stood before them in a vague line formation, their posture was relaxed, clearly confident in their abilities to defend any threat against the 'hidden' entrance to the village proper. Their confidence however was an empty to boast to Akatsuki despite their apparent ability to earn their village's rank of Jonin or higher, Their Anbu like masks were testament to their supposed skill.

 

"You are within the border of Takigakure rogue shinobi, foreign traitors have no place here so begone if you don't wish to di-" a female voice stated from behind the mask before being cut off by Kakuzu.

 

"Still so arrogant, still so self assured in their paltry strength and ability. Somethings never change I suppose." The Akatsuki treasurer stated verbosely as he cracked the knuckles of his left hand merely be flexing and clenching the fist slightly.

 

The air around the two groups seemed to shift from tense to the verge of open battle before one of the Jonin happened to glance at all the forehead protectors that were adorning the varied shinobi. 'Amegakure, unknown, Yuka?-Yugakure maybe? and...' That thought died with the masked man who held it as the Auburn haired leader of the group merely stepped forward, his feet moving in evened uniformed strides twice before lunging his right hand outward, a metal rod sliding neatly from the interior of the robe falling squarely into the awaiting hand and the pointed spike of metal eating into the torso of the Jonin before forming an outline upon his armored back and bursting forth from it in a marrow and short shower of crimson.

 

"He had the reflexs of a mid level Chuunin...at best, he had only just started to move when I had already killed him, regardless five left." The Auburn figure stated in a fairly bland detached voice as he pulled the bloodied rod free allowing the corpse of the Taki Jonin to fall back.

 

"Jei!" The female Jonin cried out as her hand moved towards her hip sheathed Tanto before she felt the impact of dozens of chakra hardened paper shuriken impacting her chest and shredding the black flack jacket, undershirt and flesh beneath into veritable flurry of torn flesh, muscle and bone. A gurgling rasp was the only reply to the attack as the once snow white paper slowly became more and more soaked in liquid crimson. The porcelain white mask falling from her face revealing blank lifeless eyes and a horror etched face as her corpse fell back impacting the soil roughly.

 

"Four remaining." The Bluenette input in what seemed to be a reserved and stoic tone of sheer indifference to killing her outstretched left arm having slowly dissembled into a swarm of white folding sheets of paper.

 

"Oi fuckers save some for me!" Hidan shouted at the top of his lungs as he all but rammed his telescoping pike into his side before ripping the bloodied instrument from his flesh and wiping the discharging gore upon his sandaled foot and dragging it through the dirt creating an intricate diagram. Hidan then let forth a shrill wail of pure ecstasy as he charged forward head long into the melee with his hand pulling his tri bladed scythe free of his back.

 

"Just who the hell are you?!" One of the masked nin outright screamed in fury as he drew his katana from it's sheath upon his back and charged forward, channeling his chakra along the blade causing it to arc and spit sparks and gleam in electricity from the lighting element conducting through it. However the charge was cut short as a cloaked leg jutted out and delivering a hellish front kick right into the oncoming 'Jonin''s armored kneecap which sent the man reeling back spewing vulgarity and hissing through clenched teeth as the masked former Taki hooked his arm back before lunging it forward as the flesh stretched unnaturally due to the Earth Fear Grudge as the entire hand seemed to detach from the arm but the thick strands of thread held it on course as ti sailed forward and punched the masked shinobi square in the throat.

 

The Jonin stumbled back his footing lost as he tumbled to the ground, his breathing labored and uneven. Kakuzu merely watched as his former countrymen slowly suffered his hypoxia related death. His fist firmly in place upon the man's crushed windpipe. His darkened skin retracting back from the crushed passage of oxygen as pitiless emerald green eyes met that of the dying Taki's through the faint eye slits in the ceremonial masks worn by Waterfall Jonin.

 

"Three." He called out a moment later just as he stepped to the side to avoid a series of earthen spikes that cracked and burst forth from the ground where he had just been standing.

 

"Do you truly not have any idea of who I am child?" Kakuzu grumbled, sure he had defected from Taki decades ago but still...he was the most prominent Shinobi to ever come out of this backwater. The final three masked Jonin Shinobi apparently had become wary enough to avoid direct battle with these sudden assailants but that caution was inconsequential, whether they fought head on or fought a retreating battle they would still die all the same.

 

"Your headband..." One of the Taki Jonin noted as they stepped back avoiding the lazy swing of Hidan's tri bladed scythe which would have cleaved his head clear of his body.

 

"Akio! Prepare to use your fire technique!" The Jonin screamed as he ran through a series of rapid hand seals before proclaiming their technique. Fire Release: Mist Blaze Dance! a thin stream of gas shot forth from the mouth slit within the mask engulfing the entire area the Akatsuki members had just finished killing their comrades in just as the other Jonin brought his own hands together.

 

"Fire Release: Running Fire!" The second masked Jonin proclaimed just as multiple inch thick flaming rings engulfed members of Akatsuki raising the temperature rapidly as the air itself heated from the intense Katon technique, at least one of these fellows Ninjutsu was up to par for his rank. However the Akatsuki would not suffer from the temperature increase overly long because as the slowly encroaching flammable gas from the prior Jonin's technique hadn't been an overt offense rather it had been intended as the first stage of a combination Ninjutsu assault. And as the stream of flammable gas from the mist blaze technique's highly volatile gases, the resulting fire caused the gases to just erupt into a hellish eye blinding conflagration that engulfed the dense and overgrown clearing that sat upon the outskirts of Takigaure.

 

The raging inferno burned away the gas in a explosive torrent of furious flame and pressure that kicked up mounds of earth and debris as it burned but was kept contained within the rings of flame. Those within couldn't have survived a sealed torrent of force and fire like that, 'nothing living could survive anything close to a blast of that magnitude point blank'. As the rings slowly faded and the thick shroud of heated dust and smoke cleared away the Jonin of Taki had no idea just how foolish that thought was.

"Damn those bastards were tough for missing nin, still can't believe they killed Shin, Jei and Ayako..." The Jonin responsible for the running fire technique breathed out heavily as he turned to look at his comrade who had frozen in place the moment the technique had landed and engulfed the flammable gas he had expelled, his eyes narrowed behind his mask as he noticed the other Jonin was trembling in place and seemed to be on the verge of collapse.

 

"You okay Han?" He questioned softly as he turned towards his comrade just as the man in question let out a dry hack and stumbled back his porcelain white mask with the insignia of Taki falling free of his face before the soft material of mask impacted the ground shattering the fragile thing, but when he gazed upon the now exposed flesh of his fellow Jonin he was stunned when the mask had fallen, he was revealed to be covered in multiple severe third and fourth degree burns, the flesh the familiar blackened blood red. Fire Release: Fire Dragon Bullet! His eyes widening he couldn't help but look for his other comrade just to see the final Taki Jonin besides himself be struck and nearly immediately engulfed by a fierce and precise burst multiple strands of fire that seemed to erupt from the smoke and debris ridden area of the blast sight. 'Impossible! How is anyone alive after that!' the Jonin internally cursed.

 

"Han we have to get out of..." He was cut off as his comrade suddenly fell to his knees clutching at his chest letting out bellowing cries of pain ridden agony, blood dribbling in steady streams from his lips he cried out once more before slumping face forward into the dirt.

*The refugees flocked around the square. Exitement made the people chatter and laugh more than usual. There was hope in the air. A exiting rumor had spread across the streets of Minrathous that today free food would be given out. And more. Little children would scurry around among the adults and their mothers would scold them for it.

 

The refugee mass moved about restlessly. Then a distant scream caught the attenion of the people gathered on the square.

"They are coming!" a young boy dressed in rags ran to the square with his bare feet flapping on the marble road. A loud murmur spread across the gathered crowd.

 

Along the marble road the boy had just ran people could make out the clatter of hooves echoing between the buildings. Then first soldiers riding their large horses rode into the clearing in their glimmering armors. House Vaellanius flag flying in the air. It was a grand sight, but the people gathered in the clearing did not come here to see the soldiers.

 

A convoy of carts rolled to the square after the soldiers escorted by foot soldiers. It caused a huge cheering among the human mass moving around. The soldiers set out a perimeter inside where the carts rolled. All around the city the same display was being seen.

 

A clerk climbed on one of the carts clearing his throat raising his arms for the crowd to settle down.

 

"Magister Lord Vaellanius has gracefully heard the plead of the good citizens of the Tevinter Imperium. Today we will hand out free food ,clothes and medicine for the needy!".

 

A cheerful roar broke out among the people in the square. Saved, they were saved! The clerk gazed around pleased basking in the glory.

 

"And that is not all! Magister Lord Vaellanius will, from now on, give out free food, clothes and medicine for the needy once a week. All around the magnificent Minrathous!".

 

"Vaellanius, Vaellanius, Vaellanius!", the people started to chant. Some people had tears in their eyes.

 

"It is all free. However, if someone wishes to, Magister Lord Vaellanius is interested to hire able people in his service. If you are a foreing refugee, then a servitude option is available", the clerk pointed at his collegue sitting behind a desk with a quill and book. Ready to sign up volunteers. Already some people headed his way.

 

"Give the food. clothes and medicine", the clerk shouted bowing gracefully and people flooded towards the carts. The little boy ran to his mother his hands cluching around aid package. "Maker bless the good Magister Vaellanius", the boys mother whispered with a trembling voice tears in her eyes.*

I've only been once to this thread and saw awesomeness, but had nothing to contribute due to my severe lack of knowledge regarding the Imperium..

I started reading the World of Thedas 1 & 2 this weekend and thought to myself that if I were to pick a country that inspired the creation of Tevinter it would be Egypt, like Orlais being inspired by France...

I saw the concept art for Darinius, with his jewlery, an interesting pharaoh-like beard and a cat by his side... I don't know for sure the climate in Tevinter but I do know it was mentioned in the first WoT the norther you go, the warmer it is... Tevinter neighbors Anderfels, which is just a massive desert.

 

Does anyone know what country inspired the creation of Tevinter?

I believe the Byzantine Empire was a source of inspiration in the creation of Tevinter.
