I don't mind living or talking with different people especially other PoC. I have people I can talk too so I can learn new things and perspectives when I was in college, but is "us and them" I stayed my distance from. But I think you know exactly what I am talking about.

Because I live in the U.S and I have experienced racism through as a PoC, and I learned my history that my ancestors have suffered greatly from Europeans that destroys our way of life today. I am proud of my ancestors who fought in the Civil War to liberate slaves from southerners, I'm proud of my people in the civil rights movement to take a stand against racism in the South. That's why the elves reminded me of black people because of it.

 

You shouldn't bundle all Europeans though.

 

And you're not very proud of the Civil Rights movement, when you say "turn the other cheek" is submission. MLK Jr's methods were borrowed from Gandhi and Tolstoy...which in turn were based on those "turn the other cheek" precepts of Jesus. It's called Non-Violent Resistance. And it had nothing to do with being submissive. It's trying to transcend the whole cycle. In Gandhi's words: "An eye for an eye makes the whole world go blind."

 

Of course, you could say MLK was naive and an Uncle Tom, like the Nation of Islam did. Fair enough. But even Malcolm X changed his mind and became his friend before he got killed (by his own people no less).
