There's seven Old Gods, not eight. Winged dragons are female only, and six of the seven Old Gods are male.

There is a codex entry of an astrarium that points out clues of an eighth Old God.

Female only? Then how do dragons make babies?

Remember those crappy lizards that the reavers had? Well, those are males... creepy, right? they might be about 3 meters at best, while the females are easily around 18-20 meters, if they do not work as an anglerfish, I wonder how the heck could they breed.

Until that theory is confirmed, I'm sticking with there being seven. Regardless, Old Gods are Great Dragons.

There are creatures where the female is exponentially larger than the male of that species. Just look at some species of spiders.

That was my first thought. It happens in the insect world often.

I don't recall any vertebrate with such an insane difference of size (other than the anglerfish), female reptiles are bigger than males but not that bigger, I wonder how big is a male Great Dragon as well, since the Wyverns are related to the Dragons but they don't have the same size issues.

Which of the old gods is female again?

It's funny that Urthemiel was male.... or so I thought.

Razikale, Dragon of Mystery, is the female one. The Circle in Minrathous was an old temple dedicated to her. Heck, even the Circle in Ferelden was tied to her. It was built for magical research because Tevinters thought that lake Calenhad was blessed by Razikale. The Inquisitor can also visit an abandoned Razikale temple in Jaws of Hakkon.

Urthemiel was male. Interestingly, the Canticle of Silence (canon in Tevinter) suggests his high priest before the Blight was the Architect. It also offers insight into their different characters: the Conductor (Corypheus) was tempted by promises of godhood and eternal glory in the eyes of all mortals. The Architect at first was dubious, thinking it a plan to elevate Dumat and his followers, but then he was convinced by Uthemiel too with promises of godhood, but also of beutiful designs and the chance to build a paradise on earth.

Other high priests were the Watchman of Night (Lusacan's), the Forgewright of Fire (Toth's), the Appraiser of Slavery (Andoral's), the Augur of Mystery (Razikale's) and the Madman of Chaos (Zazikel's). Who bets that in the future we may meet more talking darkspawn mages with the names of Watchman, Augur, Madman, etc.?

That would be cool, assuming that all of them made it out of the Black City, I'm also curious to know if the one who was devoured by the other survived or killing each other is an efficient way to keep them dead.

We only have 2(3 if you count Urthemiel's soul) Old Gods left. The Architect is alive if you spare him. We don't know of the other Magisters but they might be alive/imprisoned somewhere if they aren't dead by now.

I always had this vague sense given the names "Urthemiel" like Uriel Dumat/Dumah, and such that the Old Gods/Dragons whatever were vague references to Archangels/Seraphs something or other from some monotheistic religions.

There was a text about that, wasn't there? I can't remember where was it, or if it was a codex entry or part of WoT.

Maybe we can find more answers in Tevinter. A lot of codex entries in Inquisition on darkspawn come from The Blighted Codex, a collection of studies that the Magisterium keeps in secret. It shows that the Imperium knew of talking darkspawn and the nature of broodmothers before the Warden's adventures made it public knowledge.

Really must have missed that. Curious if the blight is simply magic the hints made but unstable in most organics

Almost like mana burn from mtg

Yup , I suspect the one who ran away could've been the Architect while the agresive one probably was Corypheus.

Thanks! Certainly, I'm also curious to know if eating each other means a permanent death (now I'm having this wild idea of one of the Seven trying to eat all his brethren to become the most powerful darkspawn ever).

However, I doubt it was Corypheus. According to WoT 2, right after his fall from grace he remained dormant. He awoke in -191 (it would explain why he didn't seem to be aware at first of what he was or what happened to Dumat), and was captured by the Wardens in that same year. Although not impossible, there wasn't much time for him to have been that hungry darkspawn. Given there were Seven High Priests and we don't know what happened to five of them, I think there's a good chance that another one was the culprit.

Could be. They also used angelic references for elves though.

Mahariel = Angel guardian of the afterlife

Tabris = Angel of free will

I was thinking isn't 7 also a significant element in some brands of monotheism?

Anyway, there's more than just bits and pieces.... and it's not just Dragon Age

Soul Reaver featured Raziel (Razikale) as well as the boss being Dumah (Dumah).

I mean Luscacan (Lucifer?), like just a bunch of stuff here.

7 is the number of God in Christian/Jewish circles.

Also important in Vegas.

Where did the names of the other Magister's Sidereal come from? I noticed this information on the wiki the other day, is there any source confirming those names are canon, or was it revealed in the Magekiller comic that I've yet to read?

What do you mean by worldly?

I recall that Mary Kirby came up with them. She seems to come up with a lot of religious stuff (Chant of Light, Qun).. she must know a lot about the subject.

Or watches Evangelion :P

That's actually a good point, it permeates way more than that.... the chant of light, templars (Paladins?), etc

Also get in the robot, Shinji.

So since we almost have a tradition of somehow appointing rulers in each game D:O Fereldan and DA:I Orlais(Divine with you want to count that to) with DA2 being the slight exception unless you pick the Templar route, who else sees us reforming Tevinter and possibly choosing Calperina the former slave turned cult leader turned possible companion to possible Archon or Dorian former outcast turned companion of the Herald turned Magister turned also possible Archon?

As much as the like the idea in theory, I hate it in terms of longterm interest in the setting. Because they can't deliver consequences. In any RPG, I want choice and consequence. Not just one.. or some Token Cameo.

I keep saying I just want to be a pirate.. and not deal with big epic subjects. Hawke was the closest to that. With here, I'd be happy enough elevating one magister.
