You will find that the Magisters have differing tastes in fashion than the mages in southern Thedas.

I would say it is the opposite, Tevinter has strengthened and consolidated its holdings on the mainland, whilst Orlais the center of White Andrastian power has become ever more bloated and corrupt. It is not the north that is weak, rather it is the south that is ripe to collapse upon itself.
