^ Why would Solas attack Tevinter? It's just extra work when whatever he plans with the Veil will likely destroy civilization (as we know it). At most, I think he will try underground recruitment of elven slaves and servants.

As for what they should do, there really isn't anything they can do other than what they already do in their efforts against the Qunari. What they will need is help, but as we know, they are too proud to ask for it.

Okay, here is what I think will be going on in the next game which will probably be in Tevinter:

The new PC will probably be from Tevinter, either a mage or a soldier, from a respected upper-middle-class family. Their main goal, originally, will be to stop the invasion from ever happening, or to nip it in the bud before it gets too big. But as the story goes on, it appears that there's a third party trying to drive Tevinter and the Qunari into a full-scale war, which would inevitably involve Southern Thedas.

The third party is, of course, Solas, who doesn't actually care about the particulars of the war, but sees the impending chaos as an excellent opportunity to continue his ultimate goal of ridding the world of the Veil, and Tevinter has the ruins and artifacts he needs to do that. With all eyes looking towards the incredibly obvious threat of a Qunari invasion, no one will be searching the shadows for the knife from behind... except for what remains of the Inquisiton, who will recruit the PC into being their ally.

The PC will have to find a way to stop or prevent a new war from breaking out while at the same time stopping Solas from succeeding in his plot, and perhaps the PC will only be able to accomplish one of these two things completely- you may be able to stop Solas completely, but you've only postponed a war with the Qunari for a little while. War will happen, and it will be devastating. OR, maybe you prevent the Quanri war altogether, but in doing so you've only foiled Solas temporarily. He'll return with another plan, sooner or later.

On the subject of Solas' plot: I also have to say that I think getting rid of the Veil is a terrible mistake. The world has changed since Solas' time when there was no Veil. The world has adapted, changed. I don't think anyone or anything there now will be able to truly survive if the Veil disappears. The world now won't be able to adapt to it like Solas thinks it would. There would be mass death and extinction.

I think Solas will definitely instigate/contribute to the chaos of an all out war between Tevinter and the Qunari but he won't actually participate himself, not directly. It'd just be a smokescreen for his maneuvering.

That's what I think- he's just going to stir up the flames and then while everyone else is worried about what he's done, he'll just be doing his thing with no one paying attention. He'll blow up an important building with Gatlock and then let things take their course while he does his own thing.

Also, seeing the previous discussion about why so many single-children in Tevinter.

It makes sense. If you have more than one child and divide the family's wealth and power, you end up with two weaker family branches instead of a single, stronger one. If you  don't divide the power and give it to the firstborn or the most powerful one, you invite infighting and attempts at usurping the hierarchy from non-favoured children.

Makes sense. Like anything else in Tevinter.

Join Tevinter. We make sense.

I have to stop you there; it's incompatible with race selection.

They may not have race selection this game. Or maybe that will be only with humans, and the other races will have other backgrounds. But I do believe that the human PCs will be from Tevinter.

I think this is all great, but I'm not sure about the inability to resolve one thing or the other completely. I think it's compelling from a story perspective, but they aren't going to leave the Solas angle dangling like that. I'm pretty sure it's been stated that it will be wrapped up in some manner with the next game. Also, DAI was basically half of the devised plot.

Yeah, it probably wouldn't end that way, but it sure would be more dramatic.

Besides, if we were dealing with Solas AND an invasion, that would be a lot to pack into one game, unless they didn't touch on a possible invasion at all. But that kind of seems a little like a lost opportunity if they don't.

Two of the last three games have had the protagonist be an outsider to the local setting.  Hawke was from Ferelden, though the setting was Kirkwall.  And the Inquisitor was a Marcher despite DAI being in Orlais and Ferelden.  Even in DAO half the origins (both dwarf and the Dalish) are outsiders to Ferelden society.

So I'm thinking they will continue with the tradition and have the protagonist be from somewhere other than Tevinter.  Perhaps Marcher again, as that region is a major melting pot for Thedosian peoples.

God, I hope not. I'm getting really sick of having Ferelden and the Free Marches being the birthplace of all the heroes. I would take a Tevinter over another freaking Ferelden any day of the week.

Don't get me wrong, I love those two places, but there's other spots in Thedas where people are born. Let's look at one of those spots now.

I think it would be a massively wasted opportunity not to have us be an Imperial denizen if the game takes place there, previous games be danged.

Has anyone come up with any Latinate names for a potential Tevinter PC? I like Caius and Drusilla.

Would mostly apply to humans and city elves, I suppose. Though I could see a qunari slave (or any slave, really) adopting the name that was bestowed upon them by their master, like Fenris... or choosing a name for themselves like Calpernia did.

Tiber for a male. Juno for a female.

The pc's name should be both a name and title just evens budget for other resources.

I don't craft pcs until 3 maybe for months before release

Also I think it was impossible for a "black Roman" if I understand the loose inspiration of tevinter plus my understanding of moors of the time is non existant
