It would be awesome if we could choose what house we are a part of at character creation.
Race>Class>House

Unless the game takes DAo's approach on backgrounds, you will assume control of all the possible backgrounds/races in a certain time. Like after the explosion in DA:I. Afterwards the details of your background get revealed as you play. So in this case the game might acknowledge you had slaves. But you won't get to play master.

left cal is so last year it's all about Mae... Woof
Well, if it's a choice between romances, I would go with Calpernia all the way.

DA4: Tevinter hero ends the sixth blight, smacks some arrogant magisters around in the process, and exterminates the qunari. I'm tired of playing nice. I would like a deep, dark, epic story with a happy ending. One can hope I guess.

Dark and happy seldom go together
Yeah, the best you can hope for with dark is "people survive".

Random question but non-magical members of the Altus houses are still nobles right?

We are not sure they exist, but they most likely do. Also it would cause scandal if two mages in an Altus family gave birth to a none-mage.
Either way none-mage members would be expected to have mage children. They would be treated worse than mage nobles in the south.

Probably just nobles in name, technically. No real power at all.Random question but non-magical members of the Altus houses are still nobles right?
Wait, wasn't there a magic-less noble in Until We Sleep that Isabela knew? Pretty sure he was a magicless Vint noble.

Exactly lol.
We have mage "nobles" in south, but they basically inherit nothing. Its probably the same for none-mage Altus.
There is a question here though. In south if a mage from a noble family has a none-mage son, does that son inherit anything?

Wouldn't it be interesting if we play a Human Mage and have to deal with an arranged marriage and decide how to deal with it.

Brings back fond memories of being forcibly dragged to the altar in the CE origin.
Uh... kind of.

I actually LOVE that idea. Bonus points if the "fiance" is a companion or advisor, and s/he and the PC actually get along but aren't really romantic, but you CAN romance them.
If they did implement this, they'd probably have to do a Carver/Bethany thing where if you're a male you're engaged to the sister and if you're a female you're engaged to the brother.
Of course, it could also be very fun to romance someone and then tell them you're engaged so they have to find a way around that. Elopement comes to mind...

Gotta say I don't see Calpernia returning as a Companion, especially if Maevaris is one. Two female Mage Companions who are both pro-reform Tevinter would be redundant from a narrative standpoint. Patrick Weekes confirmed that Mae can be ruthless when she needs to be, another strike against Calpernia being the "radical revolutionary" Compaion. Given dev interest in having a transgendered Companion, this makes her more likely than Calpernia in my eyes. Companion dynamic works best when there is contrast, so our other Mage ones would be pro-status quo or neutral to Tevinter. Honestly, I feel the best type of radical revolutary to contrast Maevaris would be a non Mage, preferably former slave.

That could be fun. I'd love to see a more fleshed-out Anora/Alistair type situation too, where you can voluntarily enter an arranged marriage but you can also have a paramour on the side. Would want all of this to be optional, of course, 'cause it's a fun idea but I'd probably never do it. Too much of a hardcore cheeseball romantic.

I could see Mae being an advisor and Cal a companion, but I also don't see them as being mutually exclusive. They're both reformers but they have completely different perspectives due to their stations and experiences. Not the same POV at all.
Though if Mae's a LI I'm romancing the crap out of her with a dwarf. We know she likes them! Thorold.

I don't think I could make a romance the "side dish" so to speak... I'd feel terrible about it! If the finance is actually a really sweet person I wouldn't do that to him (since I'm going to play female, surprise, surprise), and I wouldn't want to make my true love the "other man" either.
