Incest is very bizarre, I had heard some winter stories, man, what a shame.
That's not true at all, though. We're not characters in Dragon Age. I can say, "I like Dalish culture and I like the Chantry as an institution and I like the concept of the Qun and I like Tevinter" and there's no inconsistency because they aren't real. There are people who treat them like they are, but at the end of the day they're all fictional factions, each with their own interesting lore attached, and liking one doesn't preclude liking another.
Maybe I'm just looking at it from a meta perspective, but there's no faction in this series I don't like. I think it's all interesting. That doesn't mean I support slavery or blood sacrifice or caste systems or religious law or racism or thought police or....... anything else IRL.
(Sorry, this wasn't really aimed at you. I just see this idea pop up on the forums all the time and I find it frustrating and bizarre.)
Well, I was assuming in my comments that we were talking about people who do take this seriously enough to actually choose sides. "Pro-mage" on these boards tends to carry the connotation of "burn down the chantry, disband the templars" etc. And "pro-mage" was the term Qun00 used, so that's what I was running with.
I entirely agree you can find all factions/nations/groups interesting. For example, I do generally find everyone in the games (except the Avvar, for some reason) interesting. Some b/c they have a cool concept, some b/c I agree with a pov they espouse. I'd even say I'm "pro-" or "anti-" a side in a given argument. But outside of those arguments, they're not srs bzns to me.
I've noticed that people here who tend to identify themselves as "pro-mage" (as opposed to just saying they like playing mages or something) tend to be a lot more srs bzns about it, hence why I think it'd be odd for someone who identified as that to also be pro-qun, since the Qun is bad for mages.
(I get that your frustration was not aimed at me, and I appreciate you specified that. No worries.)
As for the genes that could be passed through breeding, if not strong magical talent, perhaps if a given family has a particular disposition towards a certain kind of power, say spirit healing, for example, then perhaps they might breed in such a way as to highlight that given trait or predisposition.
The only other gene I could see that they would forcibly try to breed would be that of a somniari.
Well, they must keep track of who can trace their bloodlines back to the dreamers for some reason.
As long as they don't constantly breed first cousins together all the time, genetic diversity issues actually won't be too bad a problem, from what I understand of genetics. I could see it being an option in Tevinter. Siblings would be a problem much more quickly than cousins would be. Also, it'd be gross. lol
Even before Solas began his scheme, according to sources the population of mages seems to have been on the rise for a while, likely contributing to the issues with the Chantry. Too many mages and insufficient resources to deal with them all.
Ironically, there are also sources that say the rate of mages among the Dalish are actually dropping.
True enough, I suppose. Though I'd still say being both pro-mage and pro-qun is not being particularly consistent. Your two examples (Dalish & Chantry, Loghain & Gaspard) don't have to be mutually exclusive, whereas those two things kind of are. But people can be as inconsistent as they wish, I suppose. lol
I think it depends on how "real" the politics of the conflict is to you. As an example, A person might feel compelled to side with a particular faction in ASoIaF/GoT, while someone might just enjoy the conflict on more of a meta level. It's similar to how some people can enjoy the involvement of a villain without actually agreeing with their motives or actions. I mean, I really enjoyed all the scenes with the Arishok, but it wasn't because I agreed with him about anything.
edit: But I see Gomez beat me to all of this.
They're degradation of inbreeding is pretty much taboo. They're going against nature itself of inbreeding with your own blood related family and come all out all kind of ****ed up ****. People are sick and twisted.Unless the two family members are distant family members. Some cultures for example have it so while both partners are the same clan/family/tribe/etc they are usually distant cousins at closest, so close enough where the bloodline is still pure and far enough apart where you avoid the mutations that occur with close inbreeding.
Then there are other cultures that went the opposite direction, where full siblings would be married to each other. And yeah that tended to lead to the mutations associated with inbreeding.

Uh.... That was centuries ago though. People nowdays are aware of what happens if people commit insect.
I am truly sick of your bullshit n7 you come only to express opinions backed by asine facts or outright hate. Just shut the #!$@ up why you enjoy bitching on a gaming forum run by those you clearly despise is just proof your looking for attention. Join a group in the subforums or make a blog prefferably on tumblr or reddit
Your gonna end up with a warning cause of 'em, lol (probably).

Everyone clearly needs to get their ass kicked in ASoIaF, except Arya and Daenerys.
Some are just more awful than others.. and as for the show, just an excuse for torture porn.
I have 1already but I gave him the attention he wants and I'm beyond bsn madness. Needed to be said sadly. We've all been polite and more than advocating but perhaps me losing my taper is needed.Your gonna end up with a warning cause of 'em, lol (probably).
I just put him on ignore again. I hate doing that, but he's crazy.

I already did that, but I find it..... Kind of funny to debate with trolls....
I got mine for correctly seducing a parody character like a year ago. I haven't had a new one yet and I doubt the mods will give me one since his rethoric is baitingHe gave me one too.

I disagree...so much. Bran, Sansa, Brienne, Tyrion. I think so many sympathetic characters have been through so much more torment than they ever deserved.

Wait, when was the torture porn?

Sansa? She's partly responsible for her whole family going to crap. All because of her stupid schoolgirl dreams of being with Joffrey. She'd choose him over her sister, and even got her wolf killed. It all started there. Her dad even wanted to take her back home and she just cried about how Joffrey was all she ever wanted.
I don't count Brienne. Her allegiances are fluid and she's the person who does the ass kicking that I mentioned. ![]()

Jesus I miss warder oddly
He's like Elliot Rodger of the BLM movement.
Anyday now I expect to see him in the news. Hopefully it'll be one of those failed attempts though.

Are we talking books or show? Cuz current book Tyrion is edging towards deserving an ass kicking. And Bran deserves an ass kicking cuz of reasons. Not that he'd feel it. Book Sansa hasn't been through as much as show Sansa (yet?) but, frankly, Joffrey was enough punishment for youthful idealism.
And now to segue gracefully into on topic territory, we had a cool/mysterious/ruthless spymaster (she even had birds) in DAI now I want a devious schemer ala Littlefinger in Tevinter. Someone too unimportant to be considered a threat yet completely without scruples and viciously ambitious.
If Calpernia is Littlefinger, I'll be forced to kill her at the first available opportunity, so I hope not.
