Actually there's a codex which mentions that an antivan queen married so many of her kids away that there were enough political connections that meant attacking Antiva would mean a war with most of Thedas

That's only a deterrent against every other human nation in Thedas. To the Qunari attacking anywhere other than Tevinter means war with most of Thedas. I believe that's in the Llomeryn Accords.

That's long ago I'm talking about the present and since everyone is all armed up with better weapons and tactics and the Qunari set themselves up to be demonized for their idiotic attempt for an unprovoked invasion, they will all unite with each other even ally with the Imperium to demolish them.

And this time the Qunari have been upgrading their saraabas and seeded Thedas with undercover agents.

Everyone united against the Qunari the first time around.  There were three Exalted Marches of both Chantries from 7:24 Storm to 7:84 Storm.  Sixty years of fighting as a united front, only to end up with a draw.  .  And that was on top of the fighting from 6:30 Steel until that point.

The Qunari are probably the single greatest threat to Thedas after the Blights.  And Solas.

I don't know about that, it'll depend how heavily the writers drawn on the Byzantine/Ottoman comparisons for this story line.  The Fall of Constantinople and the subsequent explosion of the Ottomans onto the world stage wasn't the end of Christian Europe.

Well the Qunari don't have an equivalent to Russia or Persia to keep an eye on in this parallel (assuming Thedas is Western Europe in this comparison)

Still, The Ottomans got as far as Vienna twice.  And the first siege was driven back more by luck than anything else.

I wonder how much of their success relies on their technology and how much on their battle tactics. I know Loghain and Maferath were good tacticians, but I haven't heard of a "Thrawn" or a "Xytan 'Jar Wattinree" on Thedas.

Well we don't know exactly how big a problem the Tal-Vashoth are for them.  (and Russia didn't really work as a check on Ottoman power, they just kinda swooped in after they started their decline).  And the Qunari once dominated much of Thedas through their conquests but they were repulsed.

Loghain gets treated in universe as the end all be all of tacticians (at least recent ones).  Maybe there's a Hannibal or Belisarius in the annals of Thedas history somewhere, but afaik there's no one commander that all others are measured against.

As said before it was long ago. Since they fought the Qunari before they're not going to fall for their bag of tricks, and if the Qunari are smart they stay in their nation and keep their word to not to invade unless provoked directly.

What natural resources does Tevinter have that allows it to sustain itself being isolated from the rest of Thedas. The free labour from slavery is useful, but the rest of Thedas abolished the practice so the only ones who buy and sell them is Tevinter.

Slavery allows more leisure time for common citizens, which would lead to further/higher development of technology. Case in point Greece and Rome. In pre-industrial societies, slaves and slavery is very beneficial.

There is always a ready supply of slaves because the other nations, whilst officially outlawing the practice in their own states, aren't above selling their citizens into slavery.   I would imagine that what Loghain did is more common than you might imagine.    Also there are the activities of pirates, who attack coastal locations and take the inhabitants prisoner to sell off as slave, plus slave hunters on the mainland, particularly in the regions that border Tevinter, who likely prey on isolated communities.

As for natural resources in Tevinter, I would imagine there are plenty of quarries and mines where they can extract the more mundane resources they need.   The slave workforce would of course be used for this.    I would think the inland cities of Marothius, Perivantium and Solas are likely involved in mining and the like as they would be in the rain shadow of the mountains and thus likely too dry for agriculture.   There are probably numerous smaller settlements across the Imperium that are likewise engaged.

They likely have more agriculture nearer the coast and in the north, where the climate will at the very least be Mediterranean but around Minrathous possibly even sub-tropical.    They probably have a sizeable fishing fleet.   Since Dorian even has silk undergarments, I would think that Tevinter probably has its own silk industry and this would be another source of trade with other nations.    All this will be run with slaves, which is why their economy would collapse if slavery was abolished overnight.

The only resources likely not dependent on slaves would be magical items, the lesser ones of which they may trade with other nations.     Other than that I would think they would concentrate on producing things that are valued by the dwarves, since they rely on them for lyrium.

Meh, I doubt they are entirely bereft of trade with other nations for various commercial goods. Money makes the world go 'round, and I refuse to believe that a nation such an Antiva, with their merchant princes, would not trade with them just because of faux moral outrage connected to slavery or magey stuff. There are also the dwarves as well, and the Carta, so there is also likely a large black market of materials and goods from other nations. I'm sure an altus can get some Orlesian wine if they really want, that is if they're willing to admit that they might want to drink the stuff over Tevinter wine.

As far as their own resources, they are a very large nation in terms of actual land. I'm sure there are farms, grazing land, and so on. A good chunk of the nation borders the sea, so I'm sure there is also a thriving seafood industry. Similar to Ancient Rome, I wouldn't be surprised if seafood was a staple.

Eh, this whole forum thing has created a bunch of uncertainty. There is no concrete evidence for anything.

If Bioware doesn't make DA any longer, that doesn't mean we won't have DA, another company could buy the rights for the franchise
