Yeah... You just proved my point aswell...

What, that Tevinter unlike the rest of Thedas promotes ambition and rewards excellence based on merit? If that's your point then yeah, I guess I did.

Wait a minute. The slave of an magical oriented empire, rises through the ranks to become a powerful figure in his/her society. Sounds like the Sith Inquisitor of SWTOR. Not complaining. Loved that class. Story was cool.

No. The part with the Magisterium and the Archon.

I'd kill for that! Would be pretty fun.

Wrong. I've PM'd with people in this thread that the ideal origin for a game set in Tevinter would be a slave that rises through the ranks. Possibly becoming a Magister or Archon of the Imperium.

That would actually be rather cool, even more so if you could be a devoted to Tevinter despite your origins.

Funny how most of the Tevinter supporters picture themselves as part of the Magisterium. Quite telling, isn't it?

I doubt you'd see people RPing farmers, indentured servants, or ghetto-dwelling laborers in the Orlesian Support Thread.

... If an Orlesian Support Thread even existed.

I always go back to the Gladiator/Maximus analogue. Have the slave origin be an Antivan. Have him/her fight in the Arena to earn his/her freedom and move on from there.

an Orlesian support thread? what would be the point, they'd probably just argue over who get's to RP as a fascinator.

It's amazing though - that people ignore "how" Tevinter Magisters advance... it's not like getting all "A's" in high school.

If you're a high ranking Magisters 99 out of a 100 times - you're a psychotic megalomaniac who's betrayed, lied, murdered, robbed your way to the top.

I don't see them RP'ing as the Emperor or high nobility (Magisterium) either. Usually they go for the mid-tier of importance characters. That is Chevaliers, lower nobility, hell, even merchants.

How many of you have RP'ed a Tevinter merchant, a mage from the Tevinter Circle, or a Tevinter non-mage noble in this thread? None. Because it is basically the EXACT same thing as their equivalent in any other Thedosian nation. So what people "support" is not the nation. It is the title of Magistrate and the power it implies.

Source? An amnesiac Tevinter bodyguard who was cool with his master before the Vallaslin and codex entries written by the White Chantry who happens to only hate Tevinter slightly less than the Qunari.

Very objective opinions you've got there.

Its exactly the same in Orlais except you have to trick, murder, rob, rape, betray, lie more often. No one has nay right to judge Tevinter when Orlais is supposed to be the holy land of Thedas. Orlais is always #1.

I could totally play a slave in Tevinter.

It's IS true - that I'd need some agency to control something - but even if the game ended with me being the most important slave in the household... I'd be totally happy with that.

@Lulupad:  Oh, absolutely... not disagreeing at all.  I'm just saying - people who gain power in these governments don't do it with good vibes and charity.

@TheDarkKnightReturns:  Really?  You may "want" Tevinter to be a happy place where people are promoted based on their sterling personalities... but literally every entry we've been given has stated otherwise.  You don't have "corrupt" "decadent"slave empires without corruption and decadence at the top.

Why is it such a crime for Tevinter to be full of cruel ambitious people?

It wouldn't be any different in some place like Rome - even the "good" people would play along to maintain their power... and then likely help out a little when they could.

The people that could maintain their virtue AND power... would be rare indeed.

I have RP'd a mage from Tevinter circle, who goes home at night to her family because that's how Tevinter circle is, a school not a prison. If you are a mage and don't meddle in politics, Tevinter is the best place you can live in Thedas. You will be a minor noble for just being a mage and the riches will come with it its like being born as a lesser noble through marriage. From that point its up to you how to live your life.

@Lulupad:  While it's very likely that you could just keep your head down and be a low level mage - I think all mages are at least some embroiled in politicking.

Even if it weren't you, your Circle would be dragged into it, and then it would effect you somehow - and the easiest way to get to you - would be through your family.

Living like prey my entire life is not ideal.

Uhm.. Both Petrine and Genitivi has exhibited objectivity in their writings.. So your attempt at devaluing source, bsaed on motivation falls flat on its face. And we also have several more sources that tells us that the higher levels of Tevinter nobility, is not exactly booming with job security.

Mmhm. I'm sure all the nobles of Orlais is in actuality mages, who are so far up their own arseholes, they cannot see their country falling apart. But hell, at least they got that nifty new Blood Magic spell, right? Oh wait...

They don't RP as anything, because the thread doesn't exist :>

Guaranteed though, Chevalier RPers would be Michel-tier badasses, nobles of the caliber to rub shoulders with the Dowager and emperor, and so on.

Ignored? I've seen more glorify it. It's like a manly version of The Game.

@EmperorSahlertz:  Dorian's intro in the last video was enough to state I'm closer to being right than wrong.  "From a corrupt country where mages rule."

All nations are corrupt - when someone says a nation is corrupt, it is because it is notably corrupt.

@Baconer:  True, the Nevarran I am goofing with in this thread is not how I'd play any character... I just figured I'd play a non-Tevinter with a Tevinter mindset with these fine folks in here.

Plus - Tevinter smells like **** and blood - and you just don't get that reek out of your clothes.

There is no greater place than Tevinter. Either stand with us, or get out of the way. Or roast in Dumat's holy flame.

People who are looking at Tevinter as a beacon of mage freedom are going to be disappointed, I think.

Pretty sure mages can leave the circle unless an exception is provided for certain individuals. Even the lesser mages can own property and get married and have children and that means leaving the circle either after getting training or during. The priorities of magocracy > everything else dictates as much.

For that first part: I'm pretty sure it did exist. Or else it was just some Gaspard support or Celene support thread. Same effect either way. None of them would be particular popular threads.

For the second part: Yeah, that would of course all depend on how skillful RP'ers the posters are. Just like in this thread. Where they've "resigned" themselves to the topitop of Tevinter society. (Hint: not exactly the hallmark of great RP)

Or they can support the nation itself without RPing at all, like myself.

Yeah well, some people don't like the association of slavery and human sacrifice, yet do fancy themselves a proper powertrip.

@lordsaren101:  Your cities DO stink of ****** and blood though... really... it's gross.

And the architecture.  Screaming slaves?  I've been to Kirkwall.  Is it all that angst on fighting your fellow magisters that make your artists so pedantically morose?

I also met this fellow named Dorian who ACTUALLY had a twirly mustache like some villains in the acting troupes wear in their plays.

You scamps don't even try to mask your intentions.
