When we migrated to this new forum, it just never got off the ground really. People were busy discussing the new info on DA;I on this section of the forum. It'll MAYBE pick up again once the game launches and the dust settles.

So...is there a place for a human that is a former Circle mage here ? Would not mind to be part of Tevinter. They have plenty of arcane knowledge I could learn. At least they do not hate mages though the slavery bit is a bit off-putting.

I have always been curious about this....
How are elven mages viewed in Tevinter society ?
Because Tevinter does practice slavery that involves elves yet elven mages are mages and can become quite powerful.
So what is the Tevinter stance on this ? Just wondering.

its does not matter what race you are its the fact that you have mage blood and can perform feats of the arcane that matters. There are many elven magi and slaves are of all racesI have always been curious about this....

From the wiki about Elven mages:
Slaves and Liberati, particularly elves, who demonstrate magical ability are furthermore able to join the Circle of Magi and the lowest rungs of mage society. This applies as well to the children of elven slaves, and facilitates a dubious sense among them of a "meritocracy" within Tevinter even amongst the lowest classes. However, even for those gifted elven slaves who are able to join the magocracy, there is still an element of racism that creates obstacles beyond being seen as a fellow mage.

If you got the power and will, then you are welcome. There is a reward for those who pledge themselves for service to bring down enemies of Tevinter Imperium. The reward is citizenship. Only sky is the limit for talented people here, we do not cage those of us who are born with a gift from gods.

My fellow Magisters, we really need to organize a controlled recruiting among the souther nations. I have a feeling it would significantly bolster our ranks. ![]()

Hmm... with the influx of southern refugees and immigrants, this should upset the Altus classes. At least the really traditional ones.
Good, maybe the Laetans and Soporati can form a political alliance to push Tevinter forward instead of slowly creeping back to the past.
The Soporati are the most common of our people, they are as much Tevinter as any Magister.
Of course, I'm just speaking politically, gaining political and social power doesn't change the fact that the Maker didn't gift them with magic... ![]()

* spirit of bitterness asserts opinion*Personally id prefer to handle our issues ourselves and not from southern templars blind by dogma that demonizes us for who we are saying we should be locked up for whatever reason they choose* reasserts main personality feeling drained placing hand over right eyes* just be wary of them and always be ready to kill them WHEN they turn on us to have us leased like dogs

Where is the wine? I wonder...
Within Tevinter society is it immediately clear who the blood mages are and who the naturally or at least not blood magic super talented mages are?
Is there such a distinction?
Is everyone a blood mage?
Is there any wine?

*back in Nevarra*
Did you hear the Tevinter are taking in southern refugees?
Seriously? That's rather magnanimous of them.
I agree. I have a deal with a Magister for any of the ones he "breaks".
I hope you're not paying "too" much for broken southerners.
Maker no. All he said he wanted was a cask of Orlesian wine for a dozen.
Very magnanimous indeed!

Now to answer your question no these no obvious way of knowing who is a BM unless said so. Most BM are taught through master-student or parent-son. Even the most devout tevinter mage knows the basics. Most choose not to study it due to seeing it as a crutch.

I wonder if Tevinter has any defensive fortifications along its border.
I mean it must have a seawall or two at the very least.

Id suspect them to have border forts and the like, they ARE the Imperium of Tevinter, id expect some of their crazy Roads (as seen in Dragon Age 1) to still be in working Order inside the borders of tevinter.
