So, this group looks like the right place for this thread as a fight might break out if it is anywhere else. Let’s get on topic then, what are your guys hopes and expectations regarding our favorite elven spymaster in Inquisition? Personally, she was my favorite character in TME and also the one I had the easier time relating to, I have even the feeling that the story is more about her than it is about Celene or Gaspard, but that’s just me. I’m hoping that she and her faction of elves turn into something like the Scoia’tael from The Witcher series, having a third elven faction in the block would be nice, specially if we can pull a Witcher 2 on Inquisition and take their side instead of playing a glorified errand boy for the contenders of the crown. I’m also hoping she doesn’t turn out to be another “Branka/Caridin” in an Orlesian parody of Orzammar.

So, what are your thoughts people?

Hmm...perhaps it's possible she'll be an agent of the Inquisition (Similar to that Avvar, "Skywatcher" where if you do something plot related, she'll end up joining) Not really sure cause I don't know much about Briala's character, I haven't read TME (And don't worry, I don't mind spoilers  )

Id hope to have her in due her potential as a ideological adversary and possible ally. After reading TME i find it hard not to love the character

Hmm, if she becomes an agent of the Inquisition she might give Leliana a run for her sovereigns. Briala’s got talent in the bardic arts, in fact in the whole novel I was under the impression that she was the reason Celene was considered good in The Game, her intuition is definitely sharper than Celene’s and the novel is one defeat after the other for the Empress of Orlais, I would even feel sorry for her if she didn’t make me feel so disgusted..

But I don’t really see Briala in the Inquisition as a full fledged agent, she’s got one purpose and that is improving the lot of the elves in Orlais, if she teams up with the Inquisition it will be solely for the sake of said purpose, though I don’t discard her being an ally or asset. Besides, giving us access to the Eluvian network she commands would be a little overpowered.

Also, if you get the chance, you should really get TME… it’s a very good read, starts a little slow and boring but gets very cool from Halamshiral onwards. I have also the feeling that it is much more related to the plot of Inquisition than Asunder, I think it will be for Inquisition what Stolen Throne was for Origins.

True, she would seem like a very overpowered agent  . Maybe she'll be connected to the Orlesian Civil War, I would find it hard to believe she wouldn't be considering her involvement in the book with Celene.

I really hope she's in the game! I have a hard time picturing her being very receptive towards the Inquisitor (even the Dalish), at least at first, but hopefully if you can show her with your actions that you support elves, she'll warm up to you.

Maybe she'll be a quest giver at some point?  I've heard people suggest that she might be a third option instead of supporting Celene or Gaspard, but that sounds like kind of a long shot... still, it would be refreshing if there was a viable way to support the elves if we're playing as one (or a sympathetic non-elf, or somebody who doesn't care about elves but hates Orlais, etc.).  Since she played such an important part in TME, I would assume she's one of the characters who will appear in DA:I... but I'm not really sure what role she will play.

I hope we can side with her. I really loathe the idea that some people are suggesting about us being forced (regardless of our character) to eliminate her for Gaspard or Celene.

Plus I'm not even sure that Celene would want her dead in the first place.

Forced to eliminate her?

Did it ever occur to them that maybe our PCs don't really give a crap about Orlais or who rules it?  Even the human PC is from the Free Marches... does it really matter to the average Marcher what happens to Orlais or what the candidates want?  I'd be more interested in sabotaging Orlais tbh...

Yeah, it also never occured to them that forcing the player to do something as significant as that isn't a good idea. Especially when it's siding against elves as someone who can be an elf.

And, if it was a choice they in particular would have chosen, I'm willing to bet they would be much less fond of the idea of that kind of railroading...

No doubt.  Imagine the outrage if we were forced to side with Celene... xD

I don't know if it would be such long shot. If BioWare is really observing other RPGs than they could pull a Witcher 2 and declare that siding with Briala is the equivalent to Iorveth's path.. I don't know.. I REALLY hope we get the option, I'm getting a little tired of playing glorified errand boy/girl for a noble, and the thought playing such role for Gaspard or Celene is not an exciting one... to put it lightly.

I was never a fan of Briala or her plan. I really hope that refusing to help her doesn't automatically translate to being generally anti-elf. Or at the very least not all elf factions are united under her.

You know the Exalted Plains that were showcased in a blog post waaaay long ago?

In the blog post, it's being said that "the Inquisition arrives at the Exalted Plains during a ceasefire between two armies at war." I always thought that after the problems of the dead rising from the graves have been resolved, we'd get to dabble in the Civil War side of things. Now the Exalted Plains are in the Dales, so there have to be Dalish elves as well. The blog post says: “They’ve retreated into an area with more security away from all the fighting. Of course, they’ve got a few problems of their own.” So the Dalish are there. Ever since I read that blog post I've been thinking that it would be cool if there was a quest tied to the war in this particular area, where the Inquisitor can side with either Celene, Gaspard or the elves.

Now, there's a lot of stuff wrong with this... well let's call it a theory. I know that. The reason I'm mentioning it though is that's how Briala was hinted to become after The Masked Empire: the leader of a third faction in the power struggle that is tearing the Orlesian Empire apart. It would be cool to see such a dynamic in the game.

I don't have any doubts about Briala appearing in the game, that I know for sure at least.

The idea of siding with Briala and helping a pan-elven network of Dalish and Andrastian elves appeals to me, particularly as I don't see much difference between Gaspard and Celene - both are willing to play the Game, and both are willing to sacrifice the interests of the elves (and the elves themselves, as we read with the tragedy of Halamshiral) for their own power.

Frankly, I don't see why an elven Inquisitor would automatically want to help the political power of the Orlesian Empire (as represented with the two contenders vying for control over the throne), given the history between the People and Orlais, particularly if there's a faction in play trying to help the elves.

Hopefully, Briala's experiences with Clan Virnehn won't sour her on all Dalish, which her dialogue at the end to Mihris makes me hopeful about.
