Dear lord the search function in this forum is terrible. Or I'm an idiot, in either case I have a quick question for the more observant: where do you keep track of your focus? During the E3 dragon fight I thought it was the coloured ring around your hotkeys, but rewatching the livestream from yesterday I see that that is mana/stamina. Throughout the fights I didn't see anything 'build' or perhaps it takes a long time for Focus to build up and the fighting we saw yesterday was so limited that any gains to Focus were negligible? Or am I just having a man-look?

I do agree. Why cant they look for post's mentioning focus bar, not the topics...

I think (emphasis on THINK) it's the little gold bar that runs around the circumference of the circle enclosing the abilities. But I could easily be wrong, and I don't think it drained in the E3 demo? I'll go check.

Nah, that's just a mana/stamina bar... I don't see anything that might be a Focus meter in the Twitch video...

Yeah, it appears to turn gold at around 10:00 (not mana/stamina, next to that).
However, it doesn't disappear when Haste is cast at 14:26. So I don't know what it is.

I haven't fully figured out what we are looking at with the companion and player icons yet. The refilling circles are stamina/mana or to indicate when the cooldown is over for you to cast or use your next spell/skill? Some explanation would be nice, as well as pointing out how or where we would keep track of our focus, since some powerful spells/abilities will rely on it.

Yeah, I was just going to mention that I saw that in the 2 minute gameplay demo... it seems to be missing from the Twitch video entirely, though... but I think that was the Focus bar.
Maybe none of those characters had learned a Focus skill yet? They were only level 7... the HInterlands demo was doctored to feature things like Haste, but I think the Twitch video was a straightforward glimpse at most current build of the game.

While I do like the overall look of the HUD, I wish they made it a bit clearer though because right now i'm kinda having trouble making out where everything is.

I can't help you with your question, but you get my like just for using the forum search! Would like twice if I could.

Ah, that gold ring is what I thought the Focus was! But you're right, if that was the case, why didn't it deplete? Whether it was Focus or not, where was it on the livestream? I'm just glad that it is ambiguous and I'm not mental, though the fact that I said UI when referring to the HUD isn't great.

Isn't it the gray bar that gets semi-overlayed on the health bar?

No, that's Guard.

It was honestly baffling. Thought I'd search for a pre-existing topic on Focus but it came up with any topic where someone had mentioned it. Then I realised I could search by topic names and I was like sweet! Except instead it came up with the exact same thing, except the topics were in alphabetical order. I'm not exactly computer literate at the best of times, and after four or five pages of irrelevant topics I just gave up.

That would certainly explain all of the dying. ;p

I suspect it wasn't in the livestream because the characters were too low level; they probably didn't know any focus abilities.

Hmm, I will stroke my chin on this for a while... in the meantime I guess I will just accept that until a time where it is confirmed otherwise. Thanks for the responses!

Okay, so I was watching the gameplay demo Cameron walked through at Gamescom (not sure how I missed that one) this morning:
It looks as if the gold ring is definitely the focus (depletes when Inquisitor uses her fade ability on the Rage demon) and that it steadily builds as little black icons and presumably glowing gold when it is either full, or full enough to use a Focus-based ability. And judging from the demo, can be built up moderately quickly, as the Inquisitor seems to have none when fighting the first enemy of the demo and goes golden around ten minutes later after a couple of small scale fights. This pleases me.

Yes, it has always been that.
I dont think they changed it, and in the twitch demo they might have not learned any focus ability so the meter is not shown.
This is strange, since I assumed we would start the game with Mark of the Rift learned. Maybe not!
