I know they talked a bit about their decision about keeping this green hand thing as the portrait of the Inquisitor, but... is that gonna be the only option?

At least give us a few choices right? I for example love the standerd race tarot cards so a portrait based on that one would have much more preference for me. (Of course the looks can difer quite alot, but than again the choice for multiple portraits should at least be present right?)

The green hand works well because it will turn red as your Inquisitor's health becomes...well, unhealthy.

I really don't like the hand as the icon for the Inquisitor, but I also love the tarot card stylisations of the companions, so either they would have to have the Inquisitor be in a different style, have a generic Inquisitor face as you suggested, or takeaway the tarot theme entirely IMO. That's just the trade-off and I really love what they've done with the companion portraits so it's a trade-off I'm happy to accept. They probably could have used a better one though, or offer a variety generic ones (the hand, inquistion symbol, dragon etc. I don't know).

They could just use the tarrot theme for the inquisitor icon too.

They allready have tarrot cards for selecting your race/gender combination for the inquisitor and they could just use these for the portrait.

In my opinion the green hand is pretty ugly and seems like a bit of a lazy move.

Mmm, I'm not a fan of it either even if I understand why it is there.  Although it's probably far too late by this stage, other choices of portraits would have been nice, maybe even an armoured warrior or something.  Ahhh well....

It would have been cool to have a choice, like choosing either your character's race card, a class card, or sticking with the inquisitor hand.

It doesn't bother me. I will be looking at the game and not the hand when playing

I'm also not fan of the no portrait decision.

They simply could have made the outer ring blink to indicate damage or something to that effect. I used to be a WoW healer back in the day. I had no trouble watching portraits in our 10-man raids; underlying hp bars, icons of hot/dot effects, etc. Even if I wasn't the MT healer and was responsible for the 6 dps as I preferred not to use healbot or some such.

Is the game really going to be that difficult that we need to pay attention to a blinking hand?

Either that or it just reminds me too much of the Dark Brotherhood, not a good mental image for a new hero.

BG had colours on the portrait to show status effects, but it still let is import our own.

I want to know if we can import our own portrait.

I also want to know whether we can manually sort the portraits.

I would imagine the PC community would be able to do something with that but it looks like a 'no'

I would've been happy with the generic race/gender combo tarot card you see in early CC as my portrait.

I would have no problems with this at all.

But otherwise, I'm happy with the fade hand.

I tweeted Mike the question.

There are so many things I wish I'd asked him when I met him on Sunday. Can we import portraits? Can we sort the party, and does the Inquisitor have to be at the top? Are armours limited by class? How many abilities are pre-assigned at the start of the game?

And I should have asked Mark Darrah about modding, given that he chose the engine.

I hadn't expected to meet them, so I hadn't prepared.

It would add some nice flavour giving us a few choices of the portrait but the games finished, too late to add that anyway.

The only thing I'll miss about the portraits not being able to make a derp face

Personally i prefer the hand as the icon, i like how it will turn red as your health depletes but i can why people wouldn't like it also. Options would have been cool for those who didn't want to use the default.

It really bothers me because - aside from my preference for the way DAO did it - I really dislike when there's incongruity between characters. And with this the Inquisitor isn't at all like the other companions.

I did enjoy making portraits and playing with all the options there in DAO but I think I will prefer the hand for actually playing through combat. I like that the hand pops out at you and will be a static image to track while fighting. It wasn't difficult to find your icon in DAO (or DA2) during a fight but I like that it's the clearest, representation possible of the character's status.

While I respect your preferences, I would say that in this case the icon is consistent with the in-game Inquisitor, who has a literal green glow-y hand. Being not at all like the other companions is kinda baked into the game intentionally.

The inquisitor is not a big glowing green hand any more than varric is bianca. Having a green hand as our portrait is the same as having bianca for him.

Really? He chose it? I thought it was an EA mandate.
