The inquisitor is not a big glowing green hand any more than varric is bianca. Having a green hand as our portrait is the same as having bianca for him.

For most people the Inquisitor is the glowing green hand, it's what makes them the Inquisitor rather than some schmuck who got blasted into the fade.
Varric's tarot is Bianca and chest hair, because these are two things that are strongly associated with and representative of him. It's not that's alll he is, and the same applies to your inquisitor. They are more than just the one who can close fade tears, but it is an extremely important part.

Really? He choose it? I thought it was an EA mandate.

I'm sure they said in interviews that they chose it.

What was their reasoning for the Hand?

It's probably like Shepard's N7.

I checked, and its definitely the left hand.
I'm perfectly content now.

Doesn't bother me at all. The companion portraits are all hand drawn this time around last I checked. As that would be impossible for the Inquisitor, I'm fine with using the one thing that makes the Inquisitor stand out from the general populace of Thedas.

It's been distinctly too long since I heard a decision from Bioware that made sense. Why are they doing this portrait scheme when they had a perfectly rational one in the last two games?

Because they have a stylized art that they are trying to integrate, what with the cards, and the portraits. They're trying something new, changing. Generally considered a good thing. If it doesn't go over well they'll change again. it's much to be preferred to releasing the same game with slight variations over and over.

It's to suck up to people who liked how BG2 and D&D games did it.

Im not fussed over the green hand to be honest. I mean yes, im gonna miss creating my avatar in the best heroic pose as ican manage, but after that i never pay much attention to it. At least if i scan to my avatar now i can see if im gonna pop my clogs anytime soon.

@In Exile I highly doubt its a suck up move. Its an art design (and a bloody good one) they started on Origins, which they improved and expanded on in DA2 and have improved again in DAI.

He said he did at the Edmonton Expo.

If that were true, they'd let us import our own.

The companion portraits are stylized  / 2D art, pretty hard to do the same for a customly designed character. They want it to match.

Having said that, if it wasnt much trouble they could probably just throw in a hidden option for people who wanted their own portraits. Not really high priority.

they could have premade portraits to choose from.  I saw an early beta build just now and the icon was the inquisition symbol.

I don't mind the hand image. I think it makes a strong statement as to who the player is, and known for, in part.

Pre-built portraits that look nothing like your Inquisitor and/or force you to to create him in a way so that his ingame looks fit the portrait?
That's not what I'd call immersion. But simple symbols or something would have been fine as well, that much is true.

I'm absolutely fine with the green hand.

I remember the symbol, i actually liked that.... as for the no portrait thing... i could care less.... its just ppl nitpicking.  Like those who are complaining about long hair, and qunari hair options

Why not a stylish Inquisition sign then? Why those green fingers?

It's probably like Shepard's N7.

Which part on which platform had 'N7' party icon for Shepard? ME1 used the name, ME2&ME3 had untitled healt&shield bars + wheel\ PC version of the wheel.

They did not even put it on all the armor sets.

Cause that's what sets the inquisitor aprt from other people.

In ME2/3, Shepard's character pic in the squad/inventory menu was the N7 logo.

I'm kinda disappointed I won't be able to make portraits like my avatar anymore, but oh well its not a deal breaker.

I'm fine with it. Or more accurately, it's something I wont give a second thought to. Could they have done something "better"? Sure, but it's such a minor thing that I don't honestly care.

Yeah, that symbol was much better than the green hand. Hopefully we get to choose between different portrait styles, but I'm not holding my breath.

I don't think Bioware quite gets what the portion of their fan base that liked BG1-2 liked about BG1-2.

I had not considered that...
