Speaking of the BG character portraits, though, I saw Mike Sass last weekend, and I told him how much I liked the BG2 character portraits.

As long as you can import your own i'll be happy.

I don't love the hand; would have preferred the Inquisition symbol instead since they are going with iconic, but it's not a big deal.

For me personally it's the opposite, i prefer the glowing hand over just a Inquisition symbol, and the change in color depending on health will be neat aswell  :)

I wish they had a system where we can get our own portraits with our Inquisitor's face but hey, what can you do? With games where you can create your own character, I want my character to feel apart of the game and universe. The hand as a portrait makes you stick out more.

I had not considered that...

It explains a lot of their design choices. Especially when you look at parts of DA2.

Yeah, the other companions having the nice stylized portraits is nice but if part of the tradeoff there is that the Inquisitor is stuck with a generic green hand as their "portrait," that's pretty lame. Having somewhat customizable portraits is sort of a trademark of party based RPGs. Even if it meant the other companions having more traditional portraits like Origins, I'd take that instead of a hand portrait for the main character.

I thought the hand symbol was dynamic.

Like it created different signs depending on how you are feeling.

Victory sign, talk to the hand sign, thumbs up, "the middle finger", rock on, etc etc.

Or maybe that was a dream I had...

I don't see DA2 as even attempting to court that audience.  It seemed to me that DAO was trying to do that, but then someone decided that DAO was old-fashioned and decided to strike out in an entirely different direction.

The two games are almost entirely dissimilar.

I feel it takes a customization/personal touch element away from the player; You should never, ever, EVER limit your players in an RPG where you do not need to. Personal opinion, at least.

Really wish the portrait was a thumbs up. But it's not, so....

Pre-order Cancelled.

It's bothersome to be sure, but after a time I'll more than likely ignore it.

frosbite will fall to the pc modding community if the game is good enough.

maybe or maybe not... Who knows? I won't be surprised if they create a toolbox in order to give you that possibility, though but with restrictions they control according to the contract of licence we will have to sign for the game (and modding toolbox).

My only problem with the Fade hand being the portrait is that the 'orange' it turns to isn't nearly red enough for me to notice it. I'm red/green colourblind (though really, it's colour deficient) and I literally can't tell unless I take a minute. And taking a minute in combat isn't an option.

THAT BEING SAID, half a health bar turns red, so I guess I'm covered, but.... I just am kinda upset they took away an element of customization so they could add a feature that I can't even use for my Inquisitor.

Cassandra bleeding, I can notice, but a lime green hand turning orangey, no. So... I just wish they went with different portraits, one per race/gender combo.

It really bothers me because - aside from my preference for the way DAO did it - I really dislike when there's incongruity between characters. And with this the Inquisitor isn't at all like the other companions.

Have you noticed that Wasteland 2 lets you choose from a selection of portraits, or import your own, OR take a still of your characters' 3D models?

All three options are available.

<------- See that image?  That's the character portrait I used in BG, and I used it in NWN, and in ToEE, and in every game I've been able to.

I really want to use it again.

I didn't even know who the picture was until years later.  I just liked the picture.

You're missing the references. For example, Act I is the spiritual successor of the BG2 go collect some gold act.

Same here. I have trouble with blue and purple as well as green\red.

I, for one, am against green-hand portrait.

Pay no attention to the avatar behind the curtain.

Blue and purple? Are they really two different colours? Or are rainbows trying to troll us #amiright?

Yeah, blue heavy purples tend to look just blue to me, especially if they are very light or very dark. Magentas are better in general...

See, if they had actually made it green into red (especially if it was that bright green they have into a really dark red), instead of orange, or made an obvious graphical difference between the two rather that just colour change, I wouldn't have this problem. Cassandra has blood dripping down her face, and the Inquisitor has a fairly ineffectual colour shift.

With so many games learning that red green colour blindness is common and them changing their UIs and such to match, it sucks that this is right in every red/green colourblindness' blind spot.

Fair. My point is just that Bioware thinks elements like that will be a well-received nod, but that's not what the audience wants.
