A really long title, but it says everything, when Sera was announced a romance option I was like "YAY finally I'll be able to play as an elf who romances an elf! wohoo!" But then they announcend that she is intrested in females only and I was like "Dammn..." what you guys thing? ![]()
Anyone Else is dissapointed that sera is not a romanceable option for males too?

When the game first announced all the characters I assumed she would be, as at the time she seemed to be the cute one in the group, however the otherwise unexpected decision to lock her in as lesbian only took me by surprise for about 2 minutes. Then I was like eh, what can you do? Girls gonna like who a girls gonna like, am i right? ![]()

I didn't really care, tbh. I mean, I was going to do all the different romances anyway and I did plan to romance Sera first, so all I had to do was switch which gender my Dalish Inquisitor was going to be. Then info on Solas started coming out and I started wanting to romance him first. Still don't know why that happened. * scratches head *
But yeah, idc if she's bi, straight, crooked, whatever. If her romance arch is good, I'm there. ![]()

No. I think during a game's development and marketing phase it's important to just accept the developers' and writers' decision to take a character in a certain direction. Sure, it may be good to voice disappointment over certain developments in a project, especially when those could be changed easily. But some stuff seems better left for after a game comes out.
So no, I'm not disappointed. I'm actually looking forward to romancing her with a female Inquisitor now ![]()

Not really... I mean, I would have liked a female elf for the male elf Inquisitor to romance, but I like that Sera has a specific orientation even if she's not available to my first character. I think it makes her a more unique and interesting character overall. I am planning to make a female elven Inquisitor to romance her in the future... at this point, it's probably going to be my 3rd or 4th playthrough (5th at the very latest), although I am still working out the details of this character. I didn't think that the gender and race gates would add anything to the game, but I may have been wrong about that... right now they are giving me more options to enhance the stories of the two female characters I have planned. I'm looking forward to it!

Not interested in Sera in particular, although I would like to eventually see a female elf available for male elves.

I'm happy that Sera is an option for players (and I'm glad that non-straight fans aren't being ignored like they usually are), but I concur with Faerunner about wishing that the developers had more foresight to include more non-Andrastian variety with the romance options for a straight male Inquisitor. I don't see why the straight male protagonist is limited to Andrastian human women, or why there seems to be a consistent prohibition against dwarves or qunari as female love interests.
I was originally hoping for an elven romance option for my male elven Inquisitor. I've romanced Morrigan and Merrill in the past, so it would've been a nice contrast to explore a different type of romantic relationship with my new main character, who will be a Dalish mage. Unfortunately, that's not an option at this point. I was interested in my character being with someone who would understand what it's like to be a member of an ostracized, marginalized group, and I thought Sera's jubilant attitude would work well against my planned stoic main character who was forced to work with his former enemies.
Admittedly, I don't envision either Cassandra or Josephine wanting the same things out of life as my Dalish protagonist, and I've seen a Dalish making sacrifices for love already with Merrill (which I wish could've been properly addressed by Hawke and explored within the context of the narrative, rather than swept under the rug soon after she opaquely commented on it).
Human and elven culture conflict is likely to happen. This transpired with Leliana and Aveline, with the former not understanding how degrading the life of an Orlesian servant sounded until the elven Warden explicitly points it out, while the latter was ignorant about elven culture when she called Merrill "stupid" for not completely forgoing the past of her people, which is also incredibly easy for the Guard Captain to say when the past of her own people isn't a mystery. This even happens with Anders, who has trouble accepting Merrill having her own cultural and religious perspective, and keeps trying to convince her that the Chantry is right about Spirits and Demons, and that the Dalish are wrong.
Therefore, I don't see it as a viable option without my character having to make similar sacrifices as Merrill did.

Unless I'm missing something, there's no guarantee that Josephine is Andrastian.

A bit, mostly because what Lob and Fae said... she was the only non human in the party. That being said I hope the writers came up with Samantha Traynor'esque scene where Sera tells the Inquisitor "he's not her type" when he inevitably suggests they should get better acquainted... which my Qunari definetily will.

I'm actually expecting something similar between Sera and Solas unless our PC starts a relationship with her early in the game...

Unless I'm missing something, there's no guarantee that Josephine is Andrastian.
Cassandra and Josephine are culturally Andrastian, if not religiously Andrastian.
Regardless, it's more my point that for a straight male Inquisitor, the choices are exclusively Andrastian human, excluding variety. To be fair, I think dwarven fans have gotten worse, on all sides of the fence. I'm still perplexed as to why dwarven fans have gotten the shaft three games in a row, which I think is getting ludicrous at this point. There has never had a dwarven love interest, and there's been some controversy due to how a few developers responded to the suggestion of a female qunari love interest.
Why couldn't there have been more variety with our choices? I think a dwarven from the Legion of the Dead or a Tal-Vashoth who had decided to forge her own path instead of adhering to the restrictions of the Qun would've been interesting, not only from a romantic standpoint, but in providing insight into these cultures through unique viewpoints.
Instead, we're pretty much boxed into choosing between two Andrastian women, and making a number of sacrifices if we're playing as a straight male Dalish. That's not a reflection on Cassandra or Josephine as characters, but rather the frustration that neither choice is really offering much variety when you consider this is a world populated by elves, dwarves, qunari, and apparently other kinds of people we've only heard about so far, yet the choices are between two Andrastian women.
