How discriminating are people willing to see their LI options? (Gender/Race/X?)

I thought it was quite interesting that for the first time we are getting not only gender-gated romance-options, but race-gated romance options.

Personally, I have no problem with this (anything that adds more texture to the game is something that adds more texture to the game), but how far would people be comfortable with this type of thing in future entries in the series?

Class orientations? (Someone who won't date Mages)

CC Silder Orientations? (Someone who won't date people with Double Chin > 6, or anyone with Freckles)

EDIT: For clarification, I'm talking about NPCs being discriminatory about YOU, not about your choice of LIs

I'll romance anyone who is female.

Class and specializations orientations are fine IMO (I always found it jarring that a blood mage could romance Fenris) .

... you have a good point about Fenris and Blood Mages. I hadn't actually thought of that.

Yep this.

Also the cc limitation would be amusing to me. It would make a lot of those 'maker your beautiful' lines make more sense, i always find it hilarious when said to a scarily hideous pc.

I'll screw anything if they are well-written.

I think maybe some people aren't getting the question I was trying to ask in the OP ...

I prefer DA2's system, with no gating whatsoever.

But if there has to be gating, gender should be it. Race is going too far, and anything more than that would be ridiculous.

I'd probably add Class and specialization orientations too

CC slider would be doing too much

More gating means more LIs, assuming they don't want to leave anyone out in the cold.

I prefer no gender or race gating (all the loves for the PC for maximum choice) but things based on class like a templar refusing to date a mage would be okay, for me.

People seem to prefer the set sexualities rather than what we had in DA2 though, so whatever.

Absolutely not, I'm already upset over the race and gender gating, though I will have Solas and Sera so I guess its less of an issue for me

What if it was something like Class gating INSTEAD of Race or Gender gating though? Would that be okay? (Is it Class Gating specifically you don't like with regards to other gates, or Gating altogether?)

In general I don't think making LI or PCs discriminating is a good idea due to possible unfortunate implications.

Sexual Orientation isn't discrimination though.

I'd prefer to have more gated options, than less un-gated ones. Gender, race, class gates are fine; CC gate is not and I think it'll be harder to implement (not that anyone is going to... right?). As I'd said before, I prefer unique, limited options (and I'm not talking only available for me; but also the ones unavailable) and I like it when the game world acknowledges my character's gender/class/race.

"Sexual Orientation isn't discrimination though."

Uh, yes it is.

Discrimination: Recognition and understanding of the difference between one thing and another.

Maybe as a "bonus" romance. Too many gates and not enough LIs will mean some combination will get cut out.

As long as they are trying to create real characters they should discriminate based on race, gender, class, opinions, hair color, eye color... etc etc. People have tastes and preferences. People find somethings attractive and some things unattractive.

I enjoy and support the fact that Bioware impliments gay characters and romances, infact I shall playthrough some myself, but I do find it a tad jarring that so very many characters are gay/bi.

I can see why people wouldn't like the idea of gating, especially class spec gating, the argument that if romancing an anti blood magic NPC with a blood mage is jarring for you then don't do it in your game is a valid one.

But for me it ties back to wanting the NPCs to be fully realised personalities, not cardboard cutouts just waiting for the PC's attention.  Its why I'm happy for race/gender/spec gating, why I'm happy for NPCs to romance each other if I haven't triggered them first and why I'm happy for them to abandon me if I push their morals too far.

A straight man or woman not being interested in the same sex is way different then a Human refusing to date an Elf because they're an Elf.

I like gender gates and race gates are fine as long as they fit the companion. Suppose I'd be okay with class too(though, it'd probably be stupid if rogue or warrior was gated without the other). That's probably where I'd draw the line. I'd easily be able to play any race/gender/class to get my targeted Li but I wouldn't want to use a hair color/style or even like a skin color that I hate.

They are not "refusing" to date an Elf because they are an Elf, they simply aren't attracted to elves? That isn't at all problematic

I want gating based on facial hair. No love for PCs without mustaches.
