can i pre-download the game for release if I preorder? (I've never actually pre-oredered from origin)

Also, as a side-note, what IS the inquisiton? the demo/trailor speaks of "winning", which got me thinking: winning what, exactly? Winnin against the demons/fade rips? winning against the templar/mage conflict? What is the inquisition's motivation? I don't see a "win", all i see is more of a "successfully united thedas."

You can pre-download the game roughly 3 days before release if you pre-order the Digital Deluxe Edition. If you pre-order the standard edition you will have to wait for release day to download the game (not 100% sure but i have the Digital Deluxe Edition and ever since they announced the new release date i have the preload ready to start 3 days before release, most people that pre-ordered the standard edition say they dont have a pre-load option.)

You have to "win" against the Elder One (unknown antagonist of the game) and by doing so you have to unite Thedas to fight him.

Why haven't Bioware heard of a worldwide launch? It's not fair that one country/region gets it before the others. Digital copies could all be released at the same time, my computer runs on a digital clock they could set the timer to one specific time for all regions >.>.

I agree, digital bought copies should all be available at the same time, no matter the zone. I understand the physical copies is a different matter, but digital should be the same for everyone. Luckily, you can use a VPN connection to change the date of your game release in Origin and preload the game at the 14th, and start playing it at the 17th, no matter where you are in the world. This is not illegal, and if you use it only to "change" the release date for a game you already bought, there is nothing on the Origin Agreement/Term thingie that says you can't do it. It is possible Origin will do something to stop this from being possible in the future, but as of now, they havent and they are aware people do this. You CANNOT use the VPN connection to buy games at lower prices tho, that is against the Agreement and considered illegal.

It says nothing about no preload option. Only that there is no date atm.

Seriously, don't throw around info like that unless you got an actual source that confirmed it.

Absolutely. In this day and age of the internet and digital distribution, it's a sad sorry state of affairs that anyone is getting a game before anyone else. All it does is encourage people to pirate it or have resentment for being second best. Yes I have patience, I won't be playing until i've done a DA1 and DA2 + all expansions playthrough myself anyway (started today), that will give them a week or so to fix any game crippling bugs for me as well.

However surely by now the internet is selling more games than a retail store, how much longer can they hold people to ransom on their terms? I realise money talks but i'd like to see internet sales vs physical real world sales, as I doubt real world sales are ahead by this point.

Further I realise it's not a week, but often it's several weeks, even longer for some countries.

it would actually hurt them if they did stop it. By letting people do this, for those who pre order the more expensive digital deluxe versions, they actually encourage people to not only get the more expensive versions but also to buy them on origins where they get all the money to themselves without worrying about shares and what not, its actually very clever. Look at how many of us are clamoring to start playing the 17th, and several people have said theyll change their order to pc digital deluxe on origins just for that :D

This is a world-wide, publisher-wide, retail issue. It is not confined to our singular development studio.

BOOOOO.... we do not want to hear logical explanations... we need the game, like yesterday.... BOOOOO....

Im sorry if i offended you in anyway. But if you re-read what i wrote you'll see i said im not 100% sure on the standard edition, seeing i only bought the DDE, and for me it has a pre-load date, and many people that bought the standard say they dont. Does that mean you will only be able to load it at release or at another date different from DDE? I dont know tbh. Neither do you. But if they dont state a pre-load date for Standard Edition i think its safe to assume it will be either on release date, or much closer to release date than the Deluxe Edition, otherwise why would they not state the date for preload on Standard?

Whatever tho. If you go picking typos or innacurate stuff on BSN posts than you got your whole life set, good luck. I was just trying to be helpful, and in doing so i did say i wasnt 100% sure, so its your bad if you take my word for granted and let that upset you.

You didn't offend me ;) I'm just saying that you might scare off people that were planning to buy the standard edition instead of the DD. when there is no need.

Well seeing from that point of view.... I guess you're right. Altho, if you plan on using VPN to get the release date to be on the 17th, then either DDE and Standard one will have insignificant difference between them and both can start playing on the 17th, pre-load or no pre-load :)

I have a question.

I pre ordered the Deluxe Edition on Origin around the time it became available and it appeared among my games, but I did not pay anything yet. When do I have to pay for the game?

I think either when you preload it or when it's released.

can we get an official update on why it's different for the standard edition? :(  no one told us the deluxe one would have exclusive access to pre-load :(  still hoping the info is the same for both

I always thought Pre-loading was to take load from the downloadservers (correct me if i'm wrong), so half a million people won't download the same game simultaneously. I can't think of a good reason why EA shouldn't allow pre-loading for all before release, since those who ordered the deluxe edition would only gain a couple of hours from it. I believe it's a simple Origin Issue, and nothing really to worry about.

As I understand it, you're actually downloading the whole game. It's just locked until the release date.

Pretty much. That's how it went with DA2's preload. I was even able to dig around a few files and such.
