As the topic suggests, I am planning to replay the game after...several, several months of not playing Dragon Age series. To get myself ready for Dragon Age Inquisition. A couple general questions, I apologize if this is long.

1) I am wondering whats going the most lore rich race / class to play?

At first I was thinking of making an Elf Mage and being a Arcane Mage (I've never played one) but I am concerned about not being able to cast w/ weapon (sheathing it cast)

Could I pick up AW and play through the game as just a regular mage but with plate? That would probably solve the issue of not worrying about if you sheathe your weapon to cast or not, if I am just using a staff anyway. Then maybe down the road I can throw a sword/shield on.

This is of course if I end up being a mage at all.

2) Is there a list somewhere of items that will not import to Awakening and Dragon Age 2? Kind of a pet peeve of mine...

Well anyway thanks all for the help!

As far as point two goes, I know that items from the Warden's Keep dlc won't import into Awakening and beyond.

Yes, that works just fine.  The main issue you will face with plate armor is fatigue management, since that will make your spells cost more.  Caster AWs are easy to use, but the AW sustains tend to use up a lot of mana and add fatigue, so you may want to buy a lot of lyrium potions (or simply pair it with blood mage unless you dislike that class for some reason).  Eventually the bonuses from Fade Shroud, Combat Magic, and Shimmering Shield will surpass whatever benefit you are getting from heavy armor, unless that armor is heavily enchanted.  If you are using the AW to cast spells, a high armor rating might not be the best idea since it will attract enemies to the Warden.  This wiki article may also help you determine which spells you wish to learn, if you haven't already seen it:  http://dragonage.wik...or_spellcasting
