The E3 gameplay video :

I know Bioware wouldn't spoil this in a gameplay video at E3, but is it just me or is the body that the demons throw at Leliana to intimidate her Sera, at 13:28? Outfit and hair are so similar and she did just go outside to face the demons.

Is she unconscious (why would demons not kill her though) or dead? Will some companions be more suitable for certain missions and if they aren't suitable enough, they might die, ME1 Suicide Mission style?

I thought it was stated somewhere that they can die. Hell if I recall right we can get a game over...proceed with caution XD.

Devs have said we'll understand the circumstances better when we play the game and advised us not to jump to any conclusions. It may be an entirely optional scene (based on previous choices) or she's just unconscious ( though I'm skeptical the enemy would spare anyone not immediately useful). There is certain content that may be unlocked by certain companions depending on how closely connected they are to a quest; you'll be given hints to this so you can compose your party accordingly (if you so choose). It was definitely stated that this whole scenario with Leliana was the result of taking a certain story path (you could choose to send someone else in her place, for one) so I think it's safe to say what happens to Sera is optional too.

Most likely she is just unconscious.

Different story paths are great. The fact that your companions could die depending on your choices is also great, imo. Multiple play throughs give you the option to make mistakes and adjust your canon accordingly.

If our companions can die and if you lose one during the game, will you reload a save? And if their death is the result on long-term choices, would you restart the game to avoid losing them?

Depending on the companion, I would.

This thread again????

Look, I really doubt she's dead. Bioware likes to be all dramatic when it comes to death. Especially when it comes to companions.

Also it's very likely you're in the fade when that happens, just look at the sky when they go to the courtyard.

If companions die, I would definitely reload the save.  I don't know about long-term choices but I would take note and not repeat in another playthrough.  I like all the companions from what have been revealed.  If they happened to die in game, I would find that sad enough for me to at the very least reload and try to save them.

I like to kill them off on seprate playthroughs.. I killed Wrex in me3 for example. So I hope we get the option to kill them. But if they are going to be writers pet like lelliana, than don't let us kill them off.

I highly doubt we'll be able to kill off advisors.

We've had many situations where a companion can die if we take certain actions. I don't think they plan on changing that.

So....if you're unconscious, it means you're dead? Well well well, I didn't know that!

Jumping to conclusions much?

Being shattered into tiny pieces of meat tend to kill.

I hope this game let the players kill all of the characters so the really annoying bastards can get a good old beating just like in DA 2. Just cause.

Killing advisors, sure that will happen. As for constantly wanting to kill off Lels, lol yeah sure she's the writers pet, it's not like she's important to the plot or anything. Nah it's favoritism obviously, let me live out my homicidal fantasies, biower pls!!!

Having a companion just drop dead, out of the blue, is a horrible design choice, which Bioware wouldn't make.

I imagine some of your followers can be killed, but you'll be informed, and it'll be directly because of a recent decision you've made. Again, surprising the player with a follower death is just a horrible idea, for many different reasons, and Bioware tend to know what they're doing.

They've already said it's possible for some companions to not make it, but that's all we know. I wouldn't read too much into it yet.

Besides, it's not like it would be the first time.

I reloaded for Tali. AND the Quarian race.

I thought I could force them into peace. Gerrel was too bloodthirsty. Never made that mistake again, bye bye Geth.

So far, I think I'd reload for Sera.

I wouldn't mind a party member dying so much if the game didn't forget about it two seconds later.

I think it's better to not let the game kill a character if their death is forgotten after the next mission.

Pretty much you can write any character to be important to the plot in fact companions are important too but are writen so they could be killed leliana is writers pet because of many things not only because of that not to mention that leliana fits only to pt of some players for others she was nothing more than enforced same with cullen and pretty much same was with anders in da 2.

Personally, I hope characters can die regardless of your choices, not depending on them. Make companion deaths random and beyond the player's control.

Why do people desire to kill off as many companions as they can, what's the logic? Don't have enough enemies to kill in this game or something, gotcha be edgy, don't care about advancing the plot? Want to play all by yourself, I don't need other characters, ridiculous.

Oh, Mhairi, how soon they forget...thank goodness for the mod that let me rectify the situation. Now, I wouldn't have minded having Oghren die in his joining...I would have dumped his body over the ramparts myself.

No one says that if you give me option to kill all characters i will kill all characters if i will play as pro-mage i may kill cullen or other pro-templar characters because i can see them as danger. As pro-templar i may pull same with mages or in any case simple characters i don't trust. For example i won't play as very pro-chantry character in my first pt and will see leliana and other strongly pro-chantry characters as danger so i would like simple remove such character like any pro-templar hawke would want to do with anders or merril.

You could argue that this would be lore appropriate for Cole. Heh.
