*Better itemization. Game has too much generic loot and it seems like the unique loot is heavily steered towards heavy/massive armor.

Agreed.

Light armor-wearers/robe-wearers get the shaft, BIG time. Additionally, females look massive-shouldered in the few light armor types available, with the only exception being the Dalish one. The fact that there is only one single light armor that doesn't look like crap on the girls is very irritating, and it was a big blunder on the developer's part, IMO.

And it goes without saying that there are very few options in terms of the robes' appearance, as well.

*More variety in side-quests and less "generic" locations. It seems like as I was strolling the wilderness on the World Map, I'd get into a random encounter, beat it, then the next random encounter used the exact same map! ME had a big problem of this too with its generic locations. Need more map variety and some more variety in mission structure.

Yes, the repetition of the side-quest locations is a problem in both games. At least in ME, however, the main quests were always diverse, and consistently gave you a good mix of different types of areas (not to mention how the plot always kept moving throughout). In DA, you can literally play for an hour or two straight on some of these main quests and never have a change of scenery or an advancement of the plot. Too much repetitive hack-and-slash...

........

Other things I would add/change/fix...

-- I wish they would allow for a priest/cleric class somehow, and/or allow one to pick different gods to worship/get spells from. Of course the dominant religion in the region is the whole Maker/Andraste thing, but there is at least one polytheistic belief system in the game, and that is from the Elves.

For example, it would be sweet to be a cleric/priest of Falon Din, or a druid-type tied to the "Lady of the Forest"... or something basically like that. I don't care if it is the Elves' pantheon or some other pantheon, I just get tired very quickly of the whole Maker thing, and I don't particularly care for the whole templar-chantry-mage connection either.

All I want is better graphics. I am sure Bioware will not disappoint on whatever they do with the story etc.

However, I would like to see more possible romances and a continuation of the morrigan story but that is just me.

First off, DAO is totally awesome.

For DA2, here's what I'd like to see:

1. Ability for NPC's to craft, etc in camp. Some sort of cue to let you know what just got added to your inventory without having to 'dig' for it. Either cheaper backpacks or more inventory slots. I mean, how realistic is it that a sack to carry loot is worth more than two enchanted daggers?

2. A bit more balance between quest areas. It seems like you spend about 1/3 to 1/2 of this game in Orzammar. Love the loot, and love the dungeon crawling to a degree, but man that whole segment just drags on and on and on...

3. Lets see some of at least one new land, like Antiva or Orlais, but not at the expense of totally disregarding our beloved Brit- I mean, Ferelden. :P

4. Scale down the size of the weapons so they look realistic, and give us a few more shapes. Rapiers, etc. Better looking leather armor. Give us a couple more options (like hand-axes, or what-not) for the off-weapon hand before you can use two full-sized weapons. Make some finishing moves for axes and maces instead of just thrusting into the opponent with your axe-head or mace.

5. Some different origins, although this is really a given. Perhaps the ability not to bind your PC to his 'fate', so to speak. It rankled a bit that in this game you had no choice whether or not to actually become a warden, although it WAS pretty integral to the story.

6. More monsters.

7. Side quests that can have an effect on party interactions- you want to go on that little assassination spree? Fine. But NPC's like Wynne, Alister, and Sten aren't going to stay with you. Also, someone else's idea about non-use resulting in loss of status with your followers is a good one. Nobody like to be left at camp to do the dishes all the time.

8. LESS DIALOGUE FROM MERCHANTS, PLEASE!

9. Horses, of course. Oh, and I can haz Griffonz?

There are some things I think are unrealistic:

You can have a 'speaking' PC like ME, but it will inevitably cost in dialog options, voice options, and development time. Particularly the latter. It's not impossible to do, but it would be expensive for Bioware and incredibly time-intensive to voice-act (figuring in variations in gender, race, class, sub-class, story-origin, etc) every choice for every quest and side quest in a game this size. It would also result in BW having to spend a looong time debugging the whole thing. Look at the little errors at the end of DAO and you'll see what I mean, then take it to the third power.

While it does seem odd to never 'hear' your character, there's a price to be paid for that ability that may not be worth the effort from a development standpoint.

Wow, there are a lot of good suggestions in this thread, and some I haven't even considered myself.

Mercuron wrote...

- Option to skip encounters on the world map or remove them entirely.

- Option to assign talent/skill points manually for party members or accept a default when they join you for the first time.

- More set-pieces where the entire group accompanies you in battle or on a whole quest, even if you only control 1-4 characters yourself.

Definitely all of these. As to the last one, I agree that it's really cool to be fighting alongside a big group of your allies (both the fights alongside all your party members, and the fights when you can call in groups of allied troops). I really wish there were more sections like that.

Peeker2009 wrote...

-useable items such as wands and rods, and especially musical instuments for bards.

-more magic rings. I just don't like to have empty ring slots on companions at the end of the game.

Yeah, me neither...

-As someone said before not a Grey Warden main character. At least the option to play as someone else

-More origins. I was extremely disappointed to see Human Noble and then nothing else like a Human Commoner or something..

-More weapons and more super weapons for each type. It seems that the only good weapons are Longswords, Waraxes, and some 2H weapons. Other weapons like mace, crossbows, and shortbows are extremely limited and generic. Every class has a "superweapon" but once you obtain it there is no need to use any other weapon in that class. I propose to add more "superweapons" to each class so there is more diversity in the weapons used. I would love to see my variety of weapons like spears, pikes, halberds, flails, etc

-Bigger and more epic battles. I would have loved to participate in the main battle during Ostagar because the prelude before the battle set it up as a decisive engagement. Also i really liked the end Final Battle as that was pretty epic. The sight of many warriors and darkspawn clashing with each other would be a great backdrop for a quest/misson

-Specializations influence what others think of you in the main story and have some storyline effect

-As said already better itemization

-More places to go to especially urban areas like Denerim

-Some better way to make money like investing in a store or working for people (however this may lead to grinding)

-More inventory space and better armor types/differences

There are some very good suggesitons already listed

* Better graphics (Assassin's Creed 2 standard).
* Improved Codex entries - be able to see the recently added/updated and not have it vanish in the massive list and risk activating it without notice.
* Voice of our character.
* More comments of affection if you are in a relationship/romance with someone. ...and NOT have people get armoured up after having an intimate moment as if it's natural to do that right before falling asleep.
* Unlocked saves!
* A bit more to kill.
* ...and I don't know if this already exist in DAO, but... male same sex relationships. We're going for equal standards right?

One big thing i would like to see added: A sense of exploration on the main map. Currently it only serves as a means to move the party from point A to point B, with a possible random encounter along the way. There is no option for the player to choose where to go, beyond choosing the final destination.

I'd like this system replaced with the one used in the old "Realm of Arkania" roleplaying games. There, the player does not choose destination, instead he chooses which path/road he takes from his current location, and then follows that road/path to the closest possible crossroads, at which point the player again has the option to choose which path to take. Note that beyond the main roads, the full road/path network does not have to be visible before the player travels that particular path, making him 'discover' hidden paths, etc. I think it would really add to the game, making it possible for players to discover some obscure path leading to previously-unknown hidden ruins to explore, or simply get lost on the way when the path takes an unexpected turn, etc. etc.

Basically I totally agree with all your points, minus the horses.  I can't seem them getting that working properly to be honest....  I like the idea and griffons would be beyond cool, but but but... i can't see it happening, though its not at ALL a bad idea, a very fitting one in fact :)

As for the PC voice over -- it was startling at first to be silent with very little facial animation.  I am literally more stoic than Sten.  And we both like cookies. Hardly coincidence I think, but i digress... in the end I kind of liked my silence, it left me space to think my own thoughts.  lol if THAT makes sense....it did in my head.  Hurray, I have turned into AListair....

I do think that it would be nice to have an option more often to get companion opinions...i read someone else suggest it here or elsewhere and i really liked it.   A " What do you think about ( what was just said or transpired) ? dialog option so you could gauge reactions to determine some possibilities.  There were times in the beginning of my first playthrough I wanted to ask opinions of people to have them just stare at me and have to say never mind.   I guess it would have been too many voice overs....

I love the game however and am constantly trying new things :)   Great ideas you had.

I know it's impossible, but I would like to see real differences in gameplay and graphics between dumbed down console versions and pc versions.

Many things that we demand will not be included because the parity that has to exist between pc-console versions.Graphic engine will not be vastly improved since it's been developed with consoles in mind.

Bioware knows that many of our demands should be included in the sequel, since I'm sure themselves thought about them long ago before we started demanding them. But since the consoles have limitations, and since they are the big market for developers, the pc versions have to be watered down to look equal.

And thus, we'll not get many more armor designs, horses, cloaks, better textures, bigger landscapes, more enemies in screen, more eyecandy, and all those kinds of requests that rely on memory available, computing power and storage capacity.

And since nowadays the pc market is not highest priority, we won't see grey wardens mounted in horses with cloaks and tessellated environments fighting 150 darkspawns with different armors for everyone.

1) New models. I can't honestly believe that for the length BioWare worked on DA:O that they didn't have the time to make proper models for the Dwarves (and possibly other races)

2) Feminisation of armor. It does an Oblivion, and this is what annoys me. The first load of armors have Male/Female counterparts but as you go on, this doesn't happen. I'm not talking armored bras and knickers, I mean doing something similar to leather armor models.

3) Make the party members look different to NPCs (Leliana and Oghren look no different to other NPCs IMHO), and keep this true for the PC.

4) CC defaults - If you're not going to make other NPCs of certain skin colours or add a Fallout 3-like change, don't allow these configurations. It heavily breaks immersion and looks completely ridiculous. It's nothing against those of other races before anyone takes it that way.

5) Other CC information - Dwarven nobles don't have tattoos, so why can mine? Humans have no tattoos unless (I believe) from tribes. The Human origin we get is a Noble, so why again is she allowed to have a tattoo? And the hair! We need more decent hairstyles.

6) Itemisation of gear - More caster items are needed, as are less useless items. I've seen many items with silly stats and it makes gearing up harder. Why does cloth gear for mages have Defense? It's officially recognized they don't need it, so why do I see it?

7) A hairdresser/barber - Surely there's at least one in Ferelden? I can't imagine everyone's hair stays the same all their life.

Just a few off the top of my head, there's probably others that I'd like to see.

MULTIPLAYER.

Even IF this seems awkward with the whole morality system, I can't begin to tell you how much fun I would have if I could create a game with 3 of my friends and just plow through this thing.

Very good suggestions so far.

The person who mentioned putting Runes in Armor/Shields is something I was thinking of too and thought it would be a great idea. More robust skills trees are a must, IMO. I found most of the Specialization skill trees a bit underwhelming but that just might be me.

Another I'd like to mention(I didn't see anyone else say it, forgive me if you did), is better descriptions in the items. I'm a hardcore RPG player and even some of the stats confused me as to what they did. Sets need to be more unique...and they need to display EXACTLY what the set bonus give total, not just a cryptic description of "increases armor". How much?

The biggest thing I'd like to see changed is overall itemization, a better balance of it and more variety.

I think this goes back to they need a wider variety of itemization. The cloth items with defense DO make sense. Arcane Warriors need them and some players don't want to be weighted down by a full armor set of Heavy to kill their mana regen.

This just goes back to what I said they need a wider variety of items, with more random stat generators, giving tons of combinations on one set of armor. A random item creator like Diablo uses. Which pretty much gives everyone the choice of item through their playstyle. Specialization class specific items are too rare, IMO. Need a larger variety of those in the game. But seeing as how this game is very linear, story driven and is far from a dungeon grind, they probably will never do that. They are just going to have to make a lot more items from what you get, IMO.

I'm not saying its bad in DA:O but its probably the area I'd like to see improved the most in DA2 with bigger skill tree variety.

So many of these suggestions are lifted from MMO gameplay it's not even funny. DAO isn't that type of game and shouldn't become so.

-----

This said the one aspect of any MMO that would be nice is to convery the impression that Thedas is vast. Granted this time around we had time constraints since we were rushing to fight the Blight. I would like for the next game to span the entire continent; if not fully like with Ferelden at least partially (as in origins stories from different countries).

Like others I would like to have more varierty of possible origins/development paths. But this all depends on the initial setting of the game. The upcoming sequel seem to imply there's more to the darkspawns than a mindless horde.. that's a start - but there's only so many arch-demons remaining. I think it would be a mistake to have us fight another Blight right away. And I think the premisse of Morrigan's ... experiment should really be mined for all it's worth.

I'm not so much conerned about the gameplay as about the coherence and pacing of the next storyline.

I love this game but there is always room for improvement. There have been some suggestions here already that I like, for example:

-Dyes: It would be GREAT to be able to dye armor like in Guild Wars. It would help make the PC unique even if some companions are wearing the same armor set. That includes dyeing armor pieces separately.

-More camera angles: Sometimes I pick an option that I think is funny, and the receiver is greatly offended (Wynne). It would be nice to have the camera on the PC when making a decision to see their facial expressions (like in Jade Empires).

-Romance NPCs: What if I want to marry Teagan or Lanaya? Or someone from my Origin story?

-Inventory Space: I think we all agree that there needs to be more.

-Mounts: I would love to travel using a horse, a halla, or even a griffon. There could even be a mini-game where you race others.

-Different Ways to lockpick: I agree with this 100%. Why can't I just smash that damned crate!

-Easier ways to find new codex / items: It's a real pain looking for new entries.

-Redistribute Points: For me and the companions. If I could make Morrigan a healer frin the ground up, I wouldn't have to put up with Wynne's chastising me and slapping my wrists with a ruler all the time I do something she disaproves of.

-More Weapons: Spears, Rapiers, and Flails would be awesome!

Now, here are some ideas I have thought of before:

-Flowy Hair: This is the new millenium, why can't I have flowy hair? Or at least long ponytails? It seems like the easy way out to just use short or shoulder length hair styles.

-Flowy Robes: Same as above. Plus, we could have capes if this was done right!

-Traveling Merchant:
Jade Empires did it best. You took the merchant with you anywhere and he was accesed through the menu. This would solve the inventory space and backtracking issues.

-Changing weather: I know some places, like Ostagar, are set at a specific time, but it would be nice if in other places you could see changing weather like rain/snow and day and night. It might be a stretch though.

-Finishers: We need more of these. Bows and maces/clubs should have them too. And why can't my Mage have a finisher? They could make these into cut-scenes for a more dramatic effect.

That's all for now, I think.

Oh, thanks for reminding me, Odin.

I'd like to see the Finishers improved. They all seem to use the same one (in terms of melee weapons) for the big kills, and it really didn't make any sense to see something stabbed with a 2H mace.

Here is what I would like to see:

1- Remove the gift system. Have it so only your actions affect approval. Said actions should have an approval impact whether or not an NPC is a member of your active party.

2- Skill system needs an overhaul. I would like to see camp NPCs who cannot be active party members but are dedicated craftsmen. They don't have to be in the camp, but they can be in some home base (e.g. warden's keep or equivalent). You provide them with the materials and they craft what you ask of them.

3- Some balancing needed as well, e,g, poison making should not be a prereq for using poisons, only crafting them. You don't need herbalism to uses potions, so poison making shouldn't be needed for something as mundane as cracking open a jar of poison and spilling it on your weapon.

4- All player decisions, good or bad, must have consequences. I should not be able to leave a zone in control of a bad guy for two days and come back without repercussions (I trust we know what I am referring to). Also, I should not be able to kill someone and not have their fire-breathing ally impede my progress. The game is good with providing consequences except in these two cases.

5- Provide more options for removal of visual and acoustic effects/annoyances. I should not have to install mods to accomplish this.

6- A storage chest! I should not have to install a mod or purchase a DLC to get a simple storage chest!

To the person above mentioning this is mostly MMO design suggestions...what the heck do you think DA has in it? It has more than one type of MMO design ideas directly implemented in the gameplay. Heck, Bioware even ripped a lot of the talents directly from Blizzard games. Which is OK because Blizzard copied some things from Bioware's old games. It happens all the time...MMOs are generally RPGs with more depth in the gameplay and no story to speak of. Who wouldn't want a bigger game with more content to add on top of their already great storytelling/lore?

This game is a nerd's delight with so many hidden statistical checks I bet a lot of people don't know. Plenty of lore put on weapon descriptions, hours of codex entries! It keeps going!

Mostly MMO design suggestions? I have played MMO's, but not anything made by Blizzard if that is what you mean (I'm an eve-online player, and that game could not be more different from DA in every aspect).I only see item (2) having some MMO design ideas. That doesn't make my suggestions 'mostly MMO'. I can't be the only one who does not understand why poison crafting is required for poison use.

@Odin: I have to say I noticed the absence of horses. I couldn't even find a single horse in the game (as part of the background/scenery). Not even in the cutscenes. If anyone has seen a single horse anywhere in DA, do tell!

Bruce Campbell as a companion and/or a major plot character. Seriously.

Aside from that:

1) Mage gear that doesn't look terrible.

2) Special executions with spells a la riding the high dragon.

3) A way to unlock chests that doesn't require a rogue.

But mainly the sequel should have Bruce Campbell.

This would be awesome!

Also:

- Meaningfull specializations. You should only be able to specialize when you learn the specialization and people should react to it (like templar-problems for blood mages and reavers, some berserker-only intimidation options etc)
- Actual stealth. I mean real stealth, not the oddly non-magical invisibility spell we have now. With light and sound conditions and npcs view angle affecting your ability to stay hidden, no standing right in front of a guard and staying "undetected". (*sigh* too bad it's probably not going to happen).
- Real functional buildings. How many noble estates have all their rooms connected in exactly 1 way to form a long corridor? Or orphanages? Or palaces? Or towers where people are supposed to live and perform research? Or absolutely anything?! Kick level designers hard enough until they start making areas with the layout approapriate to what that area is and we will have a ton of exploration and different options to solve the quests in these areas. (Again, probably won't happen, but if Bioware follows my advice than at least the level designers get what they deserve;))
- More different origins.
- No headcount limits. Honestly, it doesn't make any sense that you have a lot of party members but only take 3 of them to nearly die in each fight. It also makes it too easy to avoid their reactions to certain deeds because you can just have 1 evil companion set and 1 good companion set. Fighting together with the entire party would be much better and will also improve the difficulty and depth of the game if done right.
- No gifts. It almost negates the need to pay attention to the opinions of the npcs in the party because you can repair their standing with a few gifts.
- No new game+. Every character is different from the other and every story is different. Bonuses from having played the game before don't make any sense ingame and thus shouldn't exist. So no profile-wide specialization unlocks etc.
- Decisions from the first game should be noticable.
- No "iron<grey iron<steel<veridium<red steel<silverite<dragonbone". Such scaling doesn't make sense and it is silly that dragons have been almost extinct for a long time yet about every fork seems to be made out of their bones when the PC is around lvl 20. It's not even necessary, so why do it? Make every item as powerful as it should be and that's it.
- No health/damage gain per level. I don't see any logical ingame reason why a lvl 20 warrior should 1-hit everything at lvl 1 and survive anything that lvl 1 can do to him. The levels are a representation of the characters skill, so naturally a high level character is much more dangerous than a low level one, but only because the high level is more skilled and experienced. Experience and talent don't make anyone immune to sword cuts however. Better: with approapriate level you get points to spend on skills and spells, sometimes on stats too. The amount of health you have is only dependant on constitution and the power of spells and attacks is only affected by the approapriate stats. This would mean low level enemies are still dangerous throughout the entire game, scaling of anything is not needed (see above) and balance is easier because there is no need for progression.
- More items in general, but especially for mages and rogues. With more different models, of course.
- More weapon types would be nice too, and more balanced (not swords>everything else).
