Forced Liara Romance?

I'm currently doing a Male Shep run through before ME2 comes out and I wanted a play through with NO romantic interests (so I wouldn't be "cheating" on anyone in ME2). Ashley isn't a problem because she's just treating me as a commander. Liara's a different story...
I've conversed with Liara and have made very sure not to pick any sort of romantic responses. I even told her I wasn't interested in her in that way (she responded with how she was so embarressed and changed the subject). However the very next conversation she was talking to me like we were in a romance. Since I had no new options to let her down (every reponse seemed to confirm the romance) I simply stopped talking to her. I didn't talk to her at all for probably half of the game so I thought I was safe considering I had already told her I wasn't interested anyway.
Well, after Udina screws you at the Citadel I STILL got the scene where Liara shows up to comfort me and we almost kiss. I'm really worried because there are no options for me to turn her down and I'm sure she's going to show up to my quarters later for sex. Even if I reject her (which the game seems to assume is because you're worried about the mission, NOT because you don't want the romance) I'm worried that when my game imports to ME2 it's going to register this as a romance with Liara.
Is there anything I can do to get out of this? I seriously feel like it was completely forced on me and unlike Dragon Age there doesn't seem to be a last minute option to end it. I'm really upset that I went out of my way the entire game to avoid this and it still happened.

my advice? go back to a previous save and tell her she's a disgusting blue alien and the very thought of you two together makes you want to eat a bullet to the brain
do that and you should be set

I had killed Ashley at that point, so when I went to Ilos, there was no love interest at all.

You can also pick her up dead last. Makes for a very interesting debriefing in the comm chamber. Liara gets angry and you can tell her you will throw her back into the volcano if she doesn't calm down.

I am doing a playthrough right now and am going to pick her up last. I already know the game, but in the context of the story, how the hell is Shepard supposed to know she's in that barrier curtain?
I play Paragon, but I am going to try the volcano option just for fun before I reload and take the paragon route.

Will I be stuck with Liara as my romance in ME2 even if I refuse to sleep with her?

I doubt it. Not sleeping with her will probably stop the romance cold right there, as you only get the paramour achievement if you decide to go to bed with your love intrest. You can always continue playing & load the game into ME2 to see if there is a picture on your desk (if not, you're not romaticly involved with someone).
I checked the wiki and it seems to suggest if they come to visit you the romance will still carry over, even if you decline

But yeah, if you just save getting liara until last...after Vermire, you will be set. She's a nonentity to me, so I don't even bother talking to her anymore in my games. Like...at all except where it is forced.

And no, once she's your love interest, she remains your love interest -- even if you reject kissing/bedding her.
I realize this thread is two months old, though...

The "we are just friends" option always worked for me: no romance

Not for him it didn't. They did make it to easy for her to be romanced. Hell most of the time I have to be mean to her, since I normaly romanced Kaidan in the game. However it when she talks about having sex I was like what
I'm not against same sex relationships that for sure. I just wished they had a firend lover metter type thing they had in DA. <_<

I had that problem too. Chose to be friends. Then I got to Noveria and afterwards I checked in on Liara to see how she was doing and BAM, the romance was back on for some reason. Well, I had screwed up already anyway so I was also involuntarily romancing Ashley.

Yeah I had the same problem during one my play throughs. They make her too easy to romance i tend to agree.

I agree (although all ME1/2 romances are rather "easy"...compared to KOTOR or BG2)

Try not being snarky. The parameters of the game do not allow for telling her that she ain't your bag and that you want her to go away.RyrineaNara wrote...

I never played Kotor, bg2 lol I was too young when they came out. Howver, I agree that they are all rather easy to romance. <_<
