I have yet to understand the secret behind Liara's weird obsession with Shepard myself. I mean, it's like she's attracted to you the instant you meet her! And then she keeps hinting about it afterward, until you either accept or reject her. Unlike Ashley, who's actually a bit trickier and more time-consuming to begin a romance with. Not to mention it's too easy to accidentally break a romance with Ashley as well.

Sounds like Liara was put there for those who just want to witness the romance scene no matter what. lol

Oh I totally realize that. But honestly, that always sounded like a cheap excuse to me -- if you what I mean. Not that I don't trust Liara and believe in her intentions, but of course!

I believe that when I'll create a new Shep after the one I imported to ME2 I'll flirt with Liara. If I may, I think she'll the best mate for him in ME1

I always took it that Asari are interested in the skillset of a possible mate, not their persona or appearance. As Shephard you are a great / skillful soldier with potential => Asari want to mindmeld so their offspring will inherit those traits as such her interest in you might be driven a little differently than should be.

Liara is kind of the default romance ending though so yeah, she's easy.

Shepard is the Mass Effect equivelant of Captain Kirk.  It's why alien babes- Liara, Shiala, Tali, Morinth, Mordin, all those asari dancers and even Aria(Your feigned indifference fools no one, you she devil you, now kiss me before I call Wrex and tell him where you are!) fall all over him.  Personally I have to beat all the Asari off with a stick whenever I go to the Citadel.

I wouldn't say Ashley is easy to romance, but come on, 2-4 playthrough's and you still couldn't get her? LOL! Sorry, mate. You're probably doing something wrong right there. Yes, Liara IS easier and Ashley IS trickier to romance, but not to THAT degree. Good luck, though. You'll need it!

The plot just does not advance.  You need liara to find Ilos.  I think it is ludicrous because Saren found Ilos without tentacle head, but that's how Bioware wrote it.

It should work that you tell liara that you have something with ashley when she ask you.No problem.Kaidan was much harder to get rid of.The first conversation always let him believe that femshep want to be with him.You have to told him immidiatly in the second that you are not interested.

I'm playing a femshep atm, you are right. I picked her up after doing Noveria and Feros just to see her delirious state.. and there doesnt seemt o be any option for romance. Stuck with Kaiden, who will die on Virmire

I am going to get her after vermire which means a bare minimum of contact. Just one godawful 'it was so intense' moment and I am done with tentacle head.

I don't see the problem....after Liara expresses her interest in Shepard you have three options for a response to her:

1) Yes, I'm interested too. (this is the top option)
2) No, I just want to be friends. (this is the middle option)
3) Oh, hell no! GTFO! (this is the bottom option)

Only one continues the relationship and 'forces' it on you. I think the one that does is quite obvious.

Heh, no.  I try not to be too critical of other peoples' favorite characers, but some just make me throw up my hands.
