Officially yes.  It's a requirement.

The engine they're using says yes so the answer is yes. Vista/W7/W8. No Xp.

I believe Derek French said that they're not even testing on Vista. Might run, might not, they don't know. BF4 does work on Vista, FWIW.

Require?   That's a tough call.   Its not like its going to say "Nope! You aren't allowed to play this on Vista.".    It might work, but it might not.   Vista isn't supported, which means no testing will be done, and no patches to fix Vista specific problems will be coming either.

It might work just fine, but its a gamble.    For all intents and purposes... I would upgrade.   Don't bother getting 8 though, its just Win 7 with a funky unfriendly interface developed for smart phones.

It's not too bad. Especially if you either Buy Start 8 (or equivalent) or Use a free program like Pokki to create a start menu and boot to the desktop not charms menu.

Task Manager is awesome.

PC Min spec will be announced next week. Our only announced min spec right now is Windows 7 or later. We are not testing on Vista and don't know if it will run or not on that OS.

No-one should be using Vista, period.

Steam stats says more gamers have XP than they do Vista.

Approx 93% of Windows gamers on Steam have Win 7 or above. So yeah just about everybody.

Not even the super duper Windows Vista can run this game!

I'm actually upgrading from XP specifically for this - I'll miss it.

The question is whether an upgrade from Vista is worth paying for, though. I refuse to upgrade my OS until stuff I want simply won't run.

Phew.....that "or later" is a relief. I just ordered an expensive new PC and after some deliberation, decided to have W8 instead of W7.

Probably considering how bad Vista is. Although assuming Inquisition runs on it you could wait and see how good Windows "We can't count so it's 10 now" turns out to be.

Usually every second Windows OS is good, and it was 8's turn to be pretty bad.

I did that recently. Windows 7 is reasonably okay though :)

I generally skip every other OS upgrade and even then only after the next iteration is released and its been working out okay for me.   Missed ME, vista and 8...  pretty good track record.   They are trying to throw me off now, by skipping 9, but I am on to them.   When Windows 11 is released, they might have fixed the bugs that will be in 10.   That's when I will get 10.

Winxp is no longer supported by microsoft, so I can understand why BIoware chooses not to support it.

They can't even if they wanted to. The game's engine Frostbite 3, doesn't support DirectX 9. The minimum is DX 10. That means no Win XP since there is no Direct X 10 version for it.

err good luck with that. Microsoft dont patch previous Os's when they release a new one.

I haven't typically been willing to upgrade if the upgrade is going to make the stuff I already have not run.

Getting Win95 and Win98 era games to run under Vista is already sometimes pretty difficult. I kept a Win98 machine running for many years for just this reason.

But I'll be upgrading from Vista to Win8 for this one.
