not necessarily.
but since it's not been tested for any operating system below 7, you're effectively playing Anderfels Roulette.

err good luck with that. Microsoft dont patch previous Os's when they release a new one.
I'm still getting updates for my Win7...
They only stopped supporting XP AFAIK.
Oh right yes
. They've announced they're going to stop support for windows 7 although I think that just means currently that there will not be another service pack.
No-one should be using Vista, period.
Windows Vista is basically the prototype of Windows 7
How can you be running Vista and call yourself a pc gamer?!
While Microsoft's schedule of support for Win 7 officially is listing it as ending in Jan 2015... Don't count on it. Win 7 still has 51% of the marketshare of current OS's being used on the internet as of September 2014. Win 8 only garnered 12%. At this rate they will stop supporting Win 8 before they stop supporting Win 7. Vista still clinging on with 3%. XP which is finally lost Microsoft support still carries 23%. Most of those people upgrading will jump into 7 or wait for 10. Win8 was a bomb. You shouldn't have to download 3rd party software just to have a start button.

Obviously you can't. But neither should someone using the VIII abomination. I can't really figure it, which one is worse.
A picture is worth a thousand words, int his case this demotivational poster.

Don't fool yourself guys. The only serious Windows OS's of this cantury are XP and 7.
Well...looks like I'm getting a new computer.
I hope I can still get a decent one with Win7 on it, though as I hate 8 with a passion that burns with the heat of a thousand suns.
Stick with windows 7
I dont know how anyone can stick with vista. As soon as windows 7 came out I upgraded (although I got it for free via MSDN). It's footprint is a lot smaller than vista and the driver problems of vista do not exist.
I'm actually upgrading from XP specifically for this - I'll miss it.
Get 7 it's great. The only hurdle to change to 7 from xp for me was that a few custom folders are named differently.

There was zero reason to upgrade from Vista to 7 and 8 had a ton of bad reviews. The only reason to upgrade now is because vista support is being phased out, not because 7 or 8 is better in any way.

If you are only getting 7 now. You might as well wait for 10
Can someone honestly tell me how Vista is worse than XP? I've never been able to figure it out. Is it User Account Control? You can easily turn that off. Is it the lack game port support? XP dropped DOS support anyway, so I don't see why you would try to use a game port joystick in Vista. Is it the visual theme, Windows Aero? Hell, I use the Windows Classic theme.
In my experience, Vista is like Windows XP with a better Task Manager, so I'm always puzzled as to why XP is so popular and Vista is not.
Not sure myself, I only find 7 a bit faster but for the rest Vista was good.
The positive aspect of Win 8 over Win 7 is that 8 is faster. Faster startup, shutdown, etc, and now that it's been out for a while, both AMD and NVIDIA have matured their drivers so now benchmarks are faster.
The bad thing is that Metro is sort of forced on you and I still resent having to install the Classic Shell programme to boot straight into the desktop and restore the start menu. One MS employee stated that Metro is the antithesis of power users.
Just wait till windows 10 comea out before upgrading your windows system. Should be out next year sometime apparantly.
But win 7 is nice just when ten comes out 7 will go faster to the choper.
7 had a smaller footprint than vista meaning it runs faster. On blind tests they found that vista wasnt too bad, but when it came out there were a lot of river incompatibilities

I think you can use the msconfig to choose to boot to desktop
and the bad press soured lots of people over it.
7 has a lot more features than vista does though, and the task manager is hardly improved in vista or 7 from the xp version.
As long as Windows 8 isn't the minimum, which is good.
XP and 7 are good clean crisp OS's. They are what they need to be without a lot of bells and whistles added on that only degrade performance and don't add any benefit to people who know what they are doing.
The reason people hated Vista and Win8 is that MS decided to force "user-friendliness" on the consumer. User-friendly is great for people new to the Windows world, but it comes at a cost of slower performance and just overall frustration at not being able to do something relatively simple without jumping through 'friendly' hoops.
Hopefully MS learns that not everyone wants to sacrifice performance for bloated interfaces and needless 'friendly' applications.
Windows 8.1 is actually a good OS. It's just the UI (a small but rather important part of the OS) that is not optimised for non-touch devices. Get a workaround like StartIsBack to make it look more like 7 and you're golden. For a tablet or hybrid tablet/laptop the UI is actually pretty great.
