Dalish Origin. It's connected to both Witch Hunt and Dragon Age II, allows for some really neat roleplaying opportunities, and lets you be a BAMF by being tainted for several days if not weeks but just shrugging it off, even going on to fight in the Wilds. The encounter with the shrieks has a lot more of a gut-punch, the Dalish clan is a lot nicer, you get to show everybody that your people are not just mindless savages... I also loved roleplaying my Warden as being a human-hating Proud Warrior Race Guy who slowly warms up to his companions, realizes that not all humans are evil and the Dalish are flawed too, and even enters a relationship with Morrigan.

I also really like the Dwarf Commoner. Nobody ever expects you to amount to anything, but you prove them all wrong. And you have the sweetest relationship with Rica, which by extension shows that Bhelen is not a complete bastard.

Dwarf Noble is plenty fun, too, if only for the extent you can play a Royal Brat. XD

"Gorim, I don't recall giving this man permission to speak to me!"

"Gorim, this woman's presence offends me! Kindly remove her from my sight!"

"Gorim, this merchant insults me. Kill him."

Human Noble

I really enjoyed this story. It was my first ever go of Dragon Age an d still to this day I often make a human character. I do wish though that there could have been a commoner human story.

I also love the Elf stories and seem to always have them in a romance with Lelianna. Great re-visits to the origin stories of both Elf races though.

Never, ever have I been the dwalf class other than to unlock the achievements/trophies.

Elven Mage 1st play thru cause I love to blow stuff up, 2nd female city elf, 3rd dwarf commoner loved all three equally. All three characters were underdogs but in different ways, saw a wider game for that I think.

The endgame gets more personal for the City Elf. While everyone else is just doing their job as a Grey Warden, the City Elf is fighting for his/her home. And when it's all over, the City Elf in an outsider again. While everyone else has home they can return to, high status, and social responsibilities, I can't imagine the City Elf Warden returning to the Alienage after seeing the wide world. Surely the Warden could ask to become minor nobility, but it was Shianni who led the defense of the Alienage, so she should be the one to represent the elves.

My canon City Elf Warden continued traveling with Leliana and Zevran, and eventually disappeared.

For just Origins, I tend to like the Noble for its connection to the political side of the story, which always feels a bit disconnected.

Moving forward though, my favorite is the Dalish.  The late game encounter with Tamlen was a great call back and it made Witch Hunt feel very conclusive for the character.  It also strengthens connection with DA2 through the clan, Merrill, and the Eluvian.  Since Eluvians are involved in DAI (At least if Masked Empire is any indication) the connection persists.  Its really the best Origin for future games as it stands now.

My first was Elven Mage. For the double-discrimination whammy bonus. Coming out of the tower, only to have everyone to make a big deal about him being an Elf, was a confusing experience. Back home everyone only got crazy over politics and overzealous templars.

It also seemed really fitting with not really knowing the outside world that well and asking a lot of question that would seem weird for anyone else.

After that I tried all of the origins (but only played through the game with a Human Noble), but they never really felt the same. I strongly suspect that it's because the first one affected me more and it seems the first origin had the same effect on a lot of players.

Dwarf and Human Noble for sure. Though, I did like all of the origins, but those two were My favorites. Plus, the HN story had more of an impact on the main story, which ups it in My book.

Dalish all the way, then City Elf, then maybe the Dwarf commoner. I'm a sucker for underdogs and not really interested in humans.

Human Noble.

It felt the most connected to the main plot.

This. Dwarf Noble is also up there.

Personal favorite is female city elf, if only for that poem the three drunk guys are reciting before the wedding :D ... but seriously, carving a bloody swath of vengeance and destruction through the Arl's estate and then getting away with it, even though I sliced and diced the Arl's own son, is the best. To honor her late fiance's brave, but foolhardy attempt to rescue her, my warden even wore the wedding ring he'd made for a good part of her later adventures.... until Leliana stole her heart, that is.

Human Mage (female) -- "Although the Circle system could certainly be improved on many fronts, the dangers that a Mage faces are just too great to themselves and others without SOME kind of Harrowing and monitoring by the Templar Order."

City Elf (female) -- "Traditions? Blah, where were our race's "proud" {finger quotes} traditions on my wedding day?"

Noble Dwarf (male) -- "You surface dwellers know nothing of the price we've paid, do not dare to question my choice of secession. Blood is blood."

Dalish origin is still the best for me, the close relationship with his/her clan, the shrieks ambush in camp who leads to one of the most heartbreaking encounter in the game and the connexion the character gets in Witch Hunt and DA2 through the clan, Merrill, the Eluvians and the dalish culture, also in Awakening in some dialogues with Justice, Anders and Velanna where you can openly express your faith and your ideas about humans and the chantry.

Dalish Origin. It's connected to both Witch Hunt and Dragon Age II, allows for some really neat roleplaying opportunities, and lets you be a BAMF by being tainted for several days if not weeks but just shrugging it off, even going on to fight in the Wilds. I played my Dalish warden exactly in the same way
Not caring at all and despising humans and their culture/religion but the contact of his companions makes him wonder and soften his temper toward the people of Ferelden and in the end he becomes their saviour and hero is something that makes him proud, without forgeting his Dalish origins B) keeper Marethari says something about this before the dalish warden leaves with Duncan but I cannot remember exactly her words.

I really liked human noble, playing as a character who had her family betrayed resulting in their murder and chased out of her home. Finding herself in a role where title meant little and having to suck it up and move forward.
