Yeah. Much like my parents and a lot of my elders still consider me a child, even though I'm well past that stage of development. I'm quite willing to bet I'm not the only one as well.
You can even hear the frustration in Liara's voice when she says that. The devil, as usual, be in the details.

Although on the age thing Liara's romance manages to have her be simultaneously older yet 'younger' than Shepard by a debateably creepy distance either way. She's like 20 in Asari years, Shep's like 28.
Lol, approx. 800 and 196 respectively. Liara's only a maiden, I think she even says in ME1 she's barely more than a child in Asari terms. Shepard is the creepy older guy but he's only 1/5th her age.
