That's the trick.  It only works when you're logged out and on a different website.

I really wish I was on BSN when the ME3 endings first came out. The sheer magnitude of that shitstorm must have been glorious!

There was a poll with 80000 participants, of which 97% hated the endings. Even with a sample as biased as this one, that's saying something. Then consider that most of those were passionate about ME. Yup, the sh*tstorm of the decade.

 

The thing is: unlike most sh*tstorms, this one was actually justified. The problem was that it poisoned the forum for much longer than justified. You have no idea how much of a relief it is that this is all finally in the past and I'm finding myself in a state of pleasant anticipation of a new game that appears to shape up to be great once again. I think there are quite a few others who might feel similarly, and that's reflected in the forum atmosphere.

At this time, BSN is so much better than other forums.

 

Look at League of Legends forums, people are so toxic and immature.Compare it to other forums such as the Skyrim one.

 

I feel like BSN is really nice community in general regardless of the "romance" threads, we're weird like that, and that's what makes us special.

My only consistent complaint about the BSN would be that whenever a controversial theme is introduced (feminism, LGBT, equality, character appearance etc) you get this group, and it is a group because its often the same people, who will derail that thread. It happens every single time. And from what I've seen they're never held accountable, the thread just gets locked and people move on. It's quite vexing.

The romance threads aren't so bad. At least they're positive, mostly. I'd rather have that than incessant complaining about minor issues or the ideological fundamentalism we always get from a subset of people on both sides when certain topics come up. The problem is that they tend to dominate the first page of the story forum, which is all out of proportion to their importance in the game. The ME forums had a separate forum for a time for that reason. Too bad that went away. Having been at the centre of the controversy that resulted in the shutdown, I feel confident in saying it was special circumstances that made it fail rather than a general problem. I understand the decision at the time though. That forum must've taken up 90% of all moderator time.

I wouldn't call it a group as much as individuals who know they can write whatever on the internet and suffer no concequences.

The calm before the storm...? I really think a lot of people are already anticipating the release-date just to shred the game to pieces, tell each and everyone that this game is the ultimate downfall of bioware, that it's not a real RPG at all, that it's a cheap console-port made for idiots, that EA is the devil, how much better a comapny is CD Project Red and the Witcher 3 the best game ever (yet to be released of course) ... and of course most of these future posts have already been written, ready to be posted here as soon as DAI hits the shelves ^^ Did I forget something?

 

Anyway...well, I was last active on this forum back in the days of ME3...survived it, got stronger by it, had a lot of interesting discussions and never saw so much (righteous) hate poured all over the internet...it was quite an experience...of course it would have been even better if Bioware had just said: Screw it, we see you are all right, let's make the damn Indoctrination-Story, its better than anything we ever came up with anyway...but that's a story for another time and forum

Correction: Will be one of the worst places and well...no actually, that's an extreme exaggeration. Try 4/chan, Encyclopaedia Dramatica and RPG Codex for worst places of the internet. Right now it's palatable enough here. After release we'll probably get people bitching whether the game is good or not.

 

The OP hasn't been to other forums on this site though or the off-topic section otherwise he wouldn't have made any of those claims. These forums are nice but they're not perfect, not free of trolls and not all discussions are always civil or nice.

Although you will find trolls in any forum and this one does get toxic post release at times, I have gotten a mostly positive experience from the BSN, and I've been around here since DAO. This is probably due to the fact that Bioware actually seems to take note of fan feedback, unlike some other developers out there.

I took like a 2 year hiatus from this board after ME3. It was not pretty. I thought the DA2 backlash was bad, but I weathered that storm. ME3 was… something else entirely.

All I will say is that Bioware does a very good job of cultivating "a brand," and that includes pruning undesirables. They make it freely known that there are lots of people (use your imagination) whom they have no interest in pleasing, and have no place in their fanbase.

 

One of the positive side effects is that the fans that are left when the dust clears tend to be a bit more civil.

We are currently in the "calm just before the storm" phase, where only mostly real rpg fans are posting, this place will blow up if DA:I have similar flaws as to ME3.

And I've only had to use it once
