"Dismantle the Chantry" or "Reform the Chantry because most of it already blew up" I like the second one.
If the Chantry's leadership is this corrupt, then there's no reason to support them. Not on my canon PC anyway...

What leadership are you talking about? Only the Divine could possibly know, and she's dead now. Also, she's only been the Divine for a few years and is in complete favor of reform. It's not like very single priest knows about this. I also doubt you'll be able to dismantle the Chantry, but that's not here or there.
He didn't need it in DAO.
Alistair points the Warden to a dead Seeker he found in a ditch who happened to have the secret to getting Templar abilities without lyrium addiction on him.
Why didn't Alistair not just take information from the dead Seeker? He's too nice to take it from the dead guy.

I'm not interested in excuses. This has been going on for centuries and nobody said anything... the Seekers most definitely knew that they weren't addicted to lyrium, but never bothered to mention this to the Templars. I'm not interested in keeping a system like this going, no matter what individuals are to blame.
Well at least my warrior Warden won't be retconned into a druggie.
Yay.
I guess.
Sucks for a Templar Hawke ![]()

XD
I'd take it.

Pfft Hawke has more than enough money he/she can afford to be a druggie ![]()

Uh huh. Blame the people who are alive for the actions of those long dead. When the only literally one person outside the loop actually knows about it, and they've been dead for a long time. When someone actually wants reform it's too late to fix. Finally it's the infrastructure of the entire continent, but let's dismantle it because a few people made a bad call. Seems legit.

Nah, Hawe's spec says they use lyrium.
No reform is enough... a organization that gives half-knowledge and addictive substances to its people and then plays the blame game....*Voice becomes harsh* DESERVES NO SECOND CHANCES
Still have seen zero proof that the Chantry is any the wiser. Let's all jump to conclusions 'cause it's fun.

lol... sounds good to me.

Well look, if the Inquisitor meets Cassandra and notices that she doesn't need to drink lyrium whereas all other people he's heard of need it to use Templar abilities, then the cat's out of the bag. Only an extremely corrupt Inquisitor would have no problem with helping the Chantry after learning this... I can see my scumbag Dalish warrior being cool with this, but I doubt that char will become canon. I'd already bumped him from the first playthrough, and since I'm not really enthusiastic about supporting the Chantry anymore, he might now be bumped to my 4th or 5th run. *shrugs*
I know this is off topic but I want to be sure:
In Origins, Alisatir said he didn't need lyrium to use Templar power but that was retconed later, right?
And in that comic series he was in, he said he took lyrium again to use his Templar powers, right?
templar power deteriorate over time without lyrium and suffer mental defects due to withdrawls. But apparently now its bull and chantry uses it to make slaves due to fear of magiI know this is off topic but I want to be sure:

Having a standing army within the borders of every nation is probably a nice benefit as well... ![]()

History of Kirkwall Chapter 4 certainly shows that the Chantry wanted to use that army when the local government was making things harder for Orlais.
Bioware really annoys me occasionally.
Welcome to Dragon Age, where the lore is made up on the fly, and usually always flies in the face of previous lore

It's very annoying.
indeed, BioWare, specifically Dragon Age but also the ME team, seem a little too willing to change lore because they want to
Never thought I, a staunch mage supporter, would feel sympathy for Templars but yeah, there you go...This is a really strange day indeed....
The Chantry needs to answer for all this bullcrap and then its going to be severely curtailed.
agreed my friend... just when was starting to see the merits of our talks this happensBioware really annoys me occasionally.
who knowsI'm more curious about how it happened then judging the Chantry haphazardly.
Two possibilities:
1. It is an old Inquisition secret. The Seekers keep it secret, so the Templars and Chantry don't know about it, as the Chantry just brought the old Inquisition under its jurisdiction, it didn't set the policy on how to counter mages/magic, that was the old Inquisition's expertise.
2. It is known, to all parties involved, Chantry and Templar, and there is a reason why the Seekers just don't get addicted.
I really don't get why people jump to conclusions that this is a Chantry conspiracy, the Chantry isn't the one who developed the method of ingesting lyrium, that was the old Inquisition. The Chantry just controls to legitimate lyrium trade. The Chantry wasn't hunting mages, it was the old Inquisition, the ones who would research lyrium would be mages and those who hunt them, not the clergy who takes care of the poor and evangelizes. Any info on lyrium and magic that the Chantry has is likely from mages, the old Inquisition (the current Templars and Seekers), and more modern research from scholars (like Dagna).
