I've started playing Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer recently and I've personally liked a few characters with the ability to a burst damage combo or a sustained DPS focused characters. In the case of Vanguards, the Project Phoenix Vanguard is one of my favorites. Now since I'm basically a skrub at this point, I wanna know what should be a good skill build of this particular character as I want him to do AoE as well as Single-target damage.
1. Biotic Charge: I've invested points into Rank 4 Force+Damage instead of Radius, Rank 5 Power Synergy for increased damage on Smash and for Rank 6 I chose Increased Barrier instead of Bonus Power. This Rank 6 power is actually bugging me very much, so I need info on this.
2. Smash: I've gone with Rank 4 electrical to take advantage of the 7.5 second 50% bonus damage and tech explosions, Rank 5 Force+Damage increase and Rank 6 I went for Increased damage on Barriers and Armor for dealing with the Bigger guys.
3. Phoenix Training, I personally want to Invest points on Power damage and Force bonuses but I am also confused between increasing the damage output of my weapons. Need feedback.
4. Fitness: Last I heard about this skill was that it is bugged. Now since it focuses on 2 traits of Phoenix Vanguard, I need more detailed response. If I choose Melee focused build or a increased Barrier strength oriented build, then what am I trading it for ?? Pros and Cons. I have yet to put points in this tree.
Weapons: Shotguns and M-6 Carnifex. Since I don't have the Wraith or Eviscrator, I'm trying hard with Katana(it's useless). I have the Graal Spike Thrower and the Geth Plasma Shotgun but the charge reduces my speed of shooting. The claymore overweights my character by a great margin. M-6 Carnifex is a beast although the N7 Eagle is also a great pistol for Geth and Cerberus.
So I need input on the three skill trees and how to chain the combos.
Phoenix Vanguard: Pros and Cons, preffered weapons and skill tier investments discussion.

Since this is a multiplayer question, I recommend asking this question in the multiplayer forums where it will be seen by more players.

Didn't see a topic on this in MP forum so I will just post here I guess.
This is similar to the build I run. No Lash, Bonus Power, Melee Fitness.
This is one of the trickier characters to play effectively, you basically need to know how to Charge into Smash or Dodge or Melee, and if Smash, then cancel the animation with Dodge or Melee.

I can solo-execute a Drakgoon and Phantoms on Silver and Gold with a Charge-HM-Smash since I have really low cooldowns. Atlases, Geth Primes, Pretorians and Banshees give me a considerably harder time since I can't do that much damage against Barrier or Shields(count the sync-kill ability also).
Scions, Brutes and Bombers are rather easy since they can't handle all that continuous armor damage. On gold, I can only solo the normal troops, bigger fishes need more bullets and I don't have that much effective weapon at this moment.

Smash does a lot of damage, especially against barrier and armor if you take the right evolution at rank 6.
Also you can get around power block if you look at the ground when you cast Smash instead of the Banshee, for example.

On my Smashguard I went:
Biotic Charge: Radius, Power Synergy, Barrier
Lash: Damage, Damage Over Time, Shield Pierce
Smash: Biotic Damage, forgot, Armor Damage
Skipped
Fitness: Health/Barrier
I used to fill out the passive to rank 5 on power damage and put the remaining 6 points into Lash but I found myself wanting to toss around everything I can and rank 3 isn't enough. I have less force now but it's working well so far. My play style may be different from a lot of people because I don't charge that much. Mostly just to replenish my barrier. Try it out though.

I just got the hang of the smash-HM combo with animation cancellation properly and it's damn effective at clearing out normal grunts in a cone in front of you, Biotic charge is restoring 100% barriers so with Barrier Strength, I don't really run out of juice with an N7 Eagle.
This character is truly a tricky one to master but it's too damned effective in sheer powerstomping.

Skip Electrical damage and take biotic damage. That way you can prime and detonate your own biotic explosion, and those do way more damage than tech bursts. Also, bonus power is very useful for the phoenix, sometimes it enables you to do 7 charges in a row.
