Utilizing squad ammo

Hi

 

When I played through as a soldier, I used my ammo powers to boost my squad. Now as an Infiltrator, I'm thinking about using my squad to boost my ammo, but I'm abit dubious about it since you have to skimp on something else. Is it worth putting points in the different ammo powers on you squad mates to get Warp, AP etc? Or should I just skip it all together and go with my own Disruptor ammo.

Depends. 

 

Your Infiltrator's own squad disruptor or squad cryo is typically better than any squad ammo from your squadmates.

 

Some exceptions:

 - You take a biotic bonus power (like Reave) and want Liara's Squad Warp Ammo to increase damage to Lifted Targets (enemies affected by biotics).

 - You take James's squad Incendiary Ammo to prime fire explosions with weapons. (It saves a cooldown from priming with your own Incinerate, but that may be dependent on your playstyle).

 

No point in taking squad Disruptor Ammo from Ashley if you already have your own.

 

No point in taking squad AP Ammo from Garrus. You can take that as a bonus power of your own if you want (depending on what you want to achieve) and high-level piercing mods typically have better armor weakening/ignoring properties than AP Ammo.

 

AP Ammo and Warp Ammo do not provide any crowd-control or priming properties unlike Incendiary, Disruptor, or Cryo Ammo, so they are typically inferior to your own native ammo powers.

If you mean, should you put points in a squadmate's ammo power? Yes, you should. Also, you have to or leave points completely unspent.

 

Should you give them the squad evolution? With the exception of James' Squad Incendiary Ammo (which you should take as squad, ammo capacity, and explosive), it's not worth it.

 

James' squad incendiary with the explosive ammo works VERY well with high rate of fire weapons like SMGs, the Avenger, Geth Rifle, and Prothean Particle Rifle.

The infiltrator I am playing at the moment uses the Cryo Ammo squad bonus. The idea is that its easier to get head shots if team mates have slowed them down a bit. I guess could do a similar thing with disruptor ammo stunning them.

 

Both my Adept and Sentinel characters make extensive use of team mates squad bonus. Less important for Engineer as his/her powers make weapons irrelevant.
