@Eternal Phoenix So here's how their mind works " I get off on two women kissing, so it's ok to put them in a video game. But the sight of two men kissing makes my stomach turn, so quite clearly they are wrong and shouldn't be put into a video game." See how stupid that sounds? Just because you don't like the sight of something, doesn't make it wrong.

Exactly.

I'm gay, and the prospect of lesbian women or a straight couple having sex disgusts me sexually.

Does that mean I don't think we should have straight and lesbian romance options, or that lesbianism and heterosexuality are bad?

Of course not, because I'm not a self-centred scumbag.

It's not ridiculous to comprehend. Straight men are attracted to women and therefore like the image of lesbians, two women kissing/entwining etc. If you get a boner over two men making out, I've got news for you...

As for me, I don't care about Dorian's sexuality. I don't care about anyone's sexuality for that matter.

Yes I think it's because this but I don't think it's sexist to be into that stuff, it's just that you should recognize it and not be like: gays shouldn't be into game cause it doesn't benefit me/I don't find them attractive and then start complaining about game catering someone else than them :?

The truth is that many straight male players (which still is hugest portion of players of console games though only part of them are like this) don't mind lesbians cause it's hot, it's what they see in porn etc. but they mind gays and especially if gay or bi guy is hitting on them (like Anders in DA2).

The bad thing about being hit on by Anders (when you're male), was that the only dialogue choice to turn him down was rude and led to gaining rivalry points.

To be honest, I really don't get the outrage over gay characters. Or making fuss about them in any way to be honest.

What was an outrage, was how BioWare handled character sexuality in DA2.

It's good that it's handled in a much better way in DA:I.

My problem with Dorian being gay is that he seems to be more and more like a stereotype of a gayman.

I hoped they avoid such tropes, sadly gay guy = flamboyant. They could just as easily portrayed Dorian as a straight man, while having someone like Blackwell as the gay guy.

Plenty of straight guys are into fashion and all flamboyant nowadays (like the Australian comic rove)
While plenty of gay guys are marcho as hell but just so happen to be attracted to other man.

Sadly Bioware seems to be heading further towards stereotypes rather then away from them.
Lesbian = butch hair cut
Gay guy = flamboyant
Bi= root anything that moves

At this rate I'm expecting DA4's token gay guy to be covered in glitter running around in a G-String and carrying on like that "Jack" character from will and grace.

Exactly.

It's not sexist for a straight guy to only be attracted to women (and for the same reason it's not racist to not be attracted to x y or z race) because people have no ****** control over their sexuality.

But being straight doesn't mean everyone should be like you in game.

Reminds me of a quote from a man called David Hoyle:

'[Self-centred straight men] Get over yourselves. Get over yourselves. Not everyone wants to be like you you stupid powerless c***s'

How do either Traynor or Sera have a butch hair cut?

Also considering the bisexual characters we've had are: Leliana, Zevran, Anders, Fenris, Isabela, Merrill and Josephine, there seems to be a pretty wide variety of bisexual character types. IB is pansexual, so he kind of counts separately, but even if he didn't he's basically like the Zevran/Isabela type.

Dorian isn't that flamboyant. His voice for example isn't even remotely 'camp'.

I also don't think that Sera's hair cut is 'butch'.

Do the Iron Bull and Josie being bi not show that if you are attracted to the same gender that doesn't make you a stereotype well enough?

Or indeed how was Cortez even slightly 'flamboyant'.

Probably the fact that he has a mustache or something.

Because it's all about what straight dudes want. :rolleyes: They like lesbians so it's more acceptable than gay men.

Though like others said, i haven't seen any "rage" over Dorian being gay.

Well I kinda hoped they wouldn't go with stereotypes so much but in other hand there is gay guys who are flamboyant so although it's stereotype they are presented ^^;

I don't get how Sera has butch hair though? She has longer hair than I have most of time XD

Straight men only really like lesbians on the premise that lesbianism doesn't exist, though, and so said lesbians are still available to the man. It's a rather insidious form of sexism that masquerades as tolerance.

@WildOrchid Try the announcement that Dorian is gay video, by DOITD or something like that. There was also some complaints on the interview for the voice of the British Female Inquisitior.

Well, sure, there ARE gay guys who are flamboyant.

Almost every stereotype in existence AND not in existence can be quantified by saying 'oh some of them do this' by that logic.

Well he has been said to be dashing and into changing clothes (as joke though) from devs I believe so I have got that vibe as well. I actually like it though so it's not problem to me.

Yep. I kinda hoped Blackwall would have been gay though. I grow fond of Ser Bara.

-snip-

How do you know what his personality is like? All we have to go on is the Interview with the writer.

So is this thread about why people might dislike Dorian for being gay? I dont quite understand

And indeed longer hair than the other two females in the party, one of whom is straight.

If anyone of them had a stereotypical 'butch' hairstyle it would surely be Cass.

Because:
lesbian=sexy
Gay male=gross corruption of youth and morals

Though to be honest, I haven't heard any rampage about Dorian. It also could be that haters who wanted to romance Dorian and can't. Haha

its sad but true just look at the comments on various sites when it was announced that Dorian was gay damm that was some depressing stuff

and then with Sera all the straight guys are like Whoo yeah hot lesbian sex

I wonder when it will change

Cause it seen as masculine and something that lesbians have.. just stereotype that one too, not very nice one.
