I bought a digital copy of NWN2 + MoTB + SoZ from Direct2Drive (now Gamefly) way back when these were new games. When I try to run them now, I get an error message that says "Please insert the CD/DVD to continue." I've looked around the interweb for possible solutions but have had no luck so far. This is the procedure I've been following:

 

- Install NWN2

- Install MoTB

- Install SoZ

- Patch

 

And then nada. I've also tried installing just the original game and then running it without patches/expansions but that has resulted in the same error message. I've even tried all the compatibility options and have had no luck.

 

Anyone know to get it working in Win8.1?

D2D should never have required a CD. Plus Patch 1.23 removed the CD check.

 

I run the game fine in Win 8.1 on normal settings (not in compatibility mode or as Admin).

 

Do you have the file nwncdkey.ini in your NWN2 directory, and does it show your CD keys?

Looks like something was wrong with the patching. You can run this game out of a folder once it's installed and patched up, just need your own CD keys in there.

Could you update the game? I think like others, that this is the issue.

Out of the box the game requests CD to play but when (fully) patched it doesn't anymore.

 

Last vestion is IIRC 1.231765 or something which looks similar to that.

But auto patching is no longer working it seems as the site it tries to download from is no longer working so patch is not found.

 

 

There were threads on how to update. Basically you have to download the patches yourself and patch locally.

(I can't help with that since I did this in other way than the recommended way and don't even rememeber the exact details.)

but there may be other threads here which are more ellaborated. Please read others' instructions elsewhere before you patch unless you know how to.

 

 

P.S.

My experience is limited to newly succesfully manually updating a newly reinstalled non expansion NWN2 (PC English) version from scratch (~0.788) into last version in a non recommended way. I have no experience with expansions for this game and their special issues.
