I got to thinking today, is Cullen the only character who turns up in all three DA episodes no matter what. I know Alistair and Leilana can appear in DA2 and DAI but they can also not if you have certain events in your save game game or do not have the right DLC.

Cullen however appears no matter what choices you make when you go to the Circle in DAO, he's quite a prominent NPC in DA2 and he features again in DAI.

He is alone or am I missing the glaringly obvious after a long day at work?

I'm excluding Bodahn an Sandal because you don't truly interact with them in DAO IMO so much as they provide a service

Flemeth comes to mind.

Is she confirmed for DAI then?

I thought devs were still playing cagey on this one

Actually, Leliana is in DA2 no matter what, regardless of DLC. The very final scene of the game, for about 10 seconds, but she's still there.

Alistair is confirmed to return. He also appears in DA Awakening in comic series.

No confirmation, but it's about as unlikely as the sun not coming up in the morning that she'll not make an appearance.

I don't think there's anything particularly special about Cullen reappearing with each game.  Either it was always the plan to have Cullen be a consistent character in the franchise, or it's because he's popular and his character development is interesting to write.  He's definitely easy on the eyes, I'll say that much.

Didn't you know OP, he's Maric's other bastard son XD (my own personal headcanon, so please don't mind me). IMO, I don't think the Devs would have brought him back after DAO, when they could have created a new character if they didn't have something building up.

For what it's worth, I've trying to find a way to kill him since Origins. No luck thus far. I remain hopeful that I may find success in DAI.

I hope to see him get BBQed by my Warden in DA:I. Why? Because, the psychotic Templar murdered two apprentice mages, if mages are given independence. My Warden will want to personaly kill him. Since what he did was a middle finger to the Warden, after being rescued.

His only reason for continuing on in these games is the fact he got a few people swooning with the female mage PC. Since then people have trying to drag him along to each game to get with him. I am convinced that is the only reason he still tags along. He was a brain dead Templar in Origins he was still a brain dead Templar in DA2 (And Blind if your a Mage PC) and I expect nothing more but that come DA:I. If there is an option to kill him in this game, know I shall celebrate long in to the night.

?? If you're referring to the DA:O Epilogue slides, this didn't actually happen. He goes and becomes Knight-Captain in Kirkwall, since what happens in game supercedes Epilogue slides.

I'm inclined to agree. I think we will see Cullen's story be told, I'm not sure what it yet but I agree they are building to something

Killing mages seems to be good Promotion starters among the Templars.

It got retconned when he developed a following and they decided they wanted him in DA2 for fanservice. The slides were canon until they became an impediment to future design options, at which point they were reduced to hearsay so they could be ignored.

Buuut she can be not in DAO at all if say someone doesn't check the bar before Lothering gets destroyed. I've heard plenty of people missed her by accident.

Considering the success to Dragon Age came as a surprise (I heard that somewhere), I'm not surprised that they might've unintentionally shot themselves in the foot during the first game.

I don't think you can "not count" Bodahn and Sandal because it suits you, especially by citing that you don't really interact with them in Origins when you interact with them a lot more than Cullen. Plus Sandal has his whole mysterious thing going on for him. Other than those two, there is Flemeth, Justice and Anders technically that you "can't avoid" in both Origins and DA2, and since for all we know there might be a ghost version of Anders if we chose to kill him at the end of DA2, all five of those characters could potentially forcibly be a part of all three games. With Leliana, Alistair, Bann Teagan, Merrill, Isabela, Sketch (in a way), Nathaniel Howe and probably others I'm missing that COULD show up in all three (Zevran confirmed not to make an appearance).

Well he becomes wanted criminal and madman in that ending. If you side with templars in DAO he becomes Knight-Commander of Ferelden's circle. Both of the endings don't make sense in context of DA2 so they are just rumors that didn't really happen.

If you checked the wiki, the DAO slides are said to be rumours...and yes those include Cullens slides. You could also read (yes you could) the entry in the wiki for Cullen.

Leliana and Anders are the most immersion breaking of the returning characters. Anders and Justice could have been very far apart when Anders died. Leliana could have died in DAO storyline. Both characters appear in DA2 with no really good explanation. Whereas Alistair only appears if alive either as warden or king.

I notice how people slam Cullen for an event that officially doesn't happen, yet also tend to say they liked Zevran (killer for hire), Sten (Qunari who murdered a family in a fit of pique over a lost sword) and Morrigan (who is quite happy for you to annul the circle), hypercritical much?

Anyway I will let pragmatism rule in DAI, the enemy of my enemy and all that, just remember the enemy is the Evil One.

Was it fanservice when Oghren, Leliana, or Anders came back regardless of their endings? Or do you like those characters better so it's not fanservice?
