Hey thought I'd post this to see what people think.

So did you let the council live or die and which will you import into ME 2 and why? (ooo ima poet and i didnt know it)

For me I'm actually stuck on deciding, much as I was when I first played through that glorious game. The first time I played through, not knowing the ending, I opted to let the council die. Not only because they were ignorant dicks but also from the information I had it seemed we might not be able to defeat soveirgn if we lost too many ships in the rescue.

Ofcourse after all is said in done when Udina is all like gigadeegigadee googaa lets rule this mother****er I had a terrible feeling. I like humans and all be we have a destructive lust for power and in such a vast galaxy with many species I was very wary of this new direction of "human control". I did make Anderson the leader but still, no council worries me.

Now, on the other hand it became apparent that you can save the council and still defeat sovreign. Ya ya they thank you and all and put Anderson on the Council but hell, their still ignorant dicks.

So for me, I'm leaning towards importing the save with the council dead. One, because that was my original decision before I knew the different outcomes (HARDCORE TRILOGY ROLE-PLAYING FTW!!!). Two, because I am assuming that a new, hopefully more enlightened, council will be formed shortly so that other species may have a voice in the concerns of the galaxy.

So what are yall gonna do and why?

I wouldn't sacrifice all those sailors and ships for 3 d-bags. and uhhh, a couple thousand council sailors.

I say, **** the council. Let em burn with the good Alliance soldiers who lost their lives saving their alien asses.

i let the council die in all my playthoughs because to put it simple i hated them. so i enjoyed watching there ship get owned as i flew by it. I really never took into consideration what would happen if a human got control or became the council. but i believe in karma and if the human council was just as much of a bunch of dicks as the last council something would happen and they wouuld die too. lol what goes around comes around. I chose anderson cause i think hes a overall honorable character so i dont have to worry about cause he did leave me in command and give me his ship when evreything started happening. im curious if in ME 2 if you have the coincil alive what happens to anderson i wonder if he will just chilll at that club like he was after he gave you the ship. or if you leave the council alive are they still there in ME 2 or is something replaced them or if something else killed them.

It was purely tactical for me, the Destiny Ascension was done for, it wouldn't be helping in the fighting, and rescuing it would leave less people to fight the single most advanced and dangerous ship too date, so in order to make sure we were at max strength, I held back the fleet

I have a few playthroughs where I let the council live, and a couple where I let 'em die.

First reaction was "let them die" though...

Your duty as a spectre is to uphold galactic stability AT ANY COST. This means that sacrificing the council to ensure the defeat of Sovereign is perfectly justified.

Both decisions have merits from an in universe perspective. Saving the council would look good for the alliance politically and because they are already the established authority there's no major changes that would need to be enacted as they'd still be alive.

On the other hand, and the time when you're presented with the choice, Shepard (in character) lacked the knowledge that Sovereign would be defeated no matter what he/she decided, it seems like tactically it would have been a better decision to save the extra ships for the attack on Sovereign, despite the negative political implications. However, on the other hand, if Sovereign won, then everyone would die and it wouldn't matter. So... yeah, tough choice really. I typically make the choice based on whatever mindset the character I'm playing would do.

All my sheps save the council, but it has nothing to do with the council. The council is on the most powerful ship you have to fight the reaper. That may be the only ship that could even dent the paint job on it. So letting it get destroyed would be a massively stupid tactical blunder.

ya but the ship was already screwed and couldnt function. even if you went to save the council the ship wouldnt be able to do much let alone fully unload on the reaper

my Shepard saved the council because that was her job as a spectre.... and she loves politics, but that's not her job. Her job is to save the people that know how to run the galaxy

Plus, she thinks its even. She helped them. They have Anderson on the team now. Everyone's happy

I saved them because Joker sounded so excited on the comm. I can't say no to sickly kids.

My Ambrose Shepard is like me, and my biggest fault (that pertains to Mass Effect) is that I'm too idealistic about the potential of 'existence'(as in society, individuals, higher concepts, etc). While I certainly don't *like* the council, I keep on believing they will eventually live up to my own expectations of them, so I saved them. Anderson joined them.

Now my RacistShep..heheh. Udina Empire lol.

I saved the council because losing the heart of the citadel-space government would be a blow to both civilian morale and the political strength of the entire region. Symbols are often worth protecting, even at great cost. It shows the populace that they can win, and unifies their resolve - as well as avoiding showing weakness to an enemy. You can bet that if they saw an opening like the destruction of the council, the Terminus raiders would increase pressure on the border colonies.

I wish that was an option instead of "SAVE THE COUNCIL AT ALL COSTS!" *cue explosion of flowers and rainbows* I'd like to see:

"Joker, I trust you to make a judgement call. If you think you can save them, then do it." Posted Image

I saved the council all the time except for my 1 renegade play through.

Why? imo the story is better with the council made up of all races then just human

oh sorry i must be mistaken. i havent played ME 1 for a long long time. i played it for like 3 weeks after it came out. and i cant play it now cause i dont have my comp set up and theres no room where i living now to put it up. im using  a friends labtop to chat on forums. but ya that aside its been a while. i though they asked for your help because they were getting owned by the geth ships and a lot of there functions and shields went offline. but if the ship was perfectly fine and they just needed help just for the heck of it then ecxuse my last statement ME1 isnt that fresh in my mind at the moment. i just remember choosing to let them die and that you can choose udina or anderson after that.

It was heavily damaged, it's shields were failing, it was in retreat, etc.  You notice how quickly it is destroyed after you decide to let them die?  It obviously wasn't in good shape by the time the decision came up.

that's waht i did on my first playthrough, nothing against them but you know i'd rather loose 3 pompus khans then loose everything.  it was acceptable losses....oh right my whole squad got killed on torfan so it fit my character.

Ehh, I went the greater good route thinking killing the council would cause serious revolt by the other citadel races when confronted by a human council.

My Shepard tries to save everyone. His squad on Akuze, Ash and Kaiden, Saren, etc. Ok he does draw the line someplaces but you get the point.
