I've had the PS3 version. The galaxy map was never my favorite. There's nothing fun about it, it's just a chore to grin and bear if you want the goodies. I just got the PC version and as far as I can tell, the Normandy controls on the galaxy map are quite possibly the worst and clumsiest I have ever used in a video game. Once the reapers are on to you it is near impossible to get into and out of orbit quick enough. And its a carpal tunnel frustration just trying.
Let me see if I get this right:
- There are no directional controls for the Normandy, just the mouse? As far as I can tell you can't change it in the key map. Nobody there thought that arrow keys, the things that have been propelling spacecraft since Asteroids in 1977, would have been of any use to us?
- The only way to move the Normandy is this clumsy method where you click and hold the mouse, the ship flies in the direction of the cursor, but while that is going on the mouse cursor bizarrely is also moving.
- Once you orbit a planet to probe, the only way to spin a planet is to constantly sweep your mouse side to side as the planet jerks in rotation a tiny bit at a time?!?!?!? You can't simply move the cursor to the edge and let the planet rotate, the development team there thought it would fun to sweep your mouse left to right a dozen or so times to make the planet spin, all while awkwardly trying to also use the mouse to launch and follow probes. It never occurred that simply having the right and left arrow keys rotate would be nice? WOW !!!!
I prefer not to cheat, but at this point I'm trying to figure how to get all the stuff but not have to actually do this PUNISHMENT that BioWare gave us (in my case for spending $80 anew on this game and DLC for the PC version after enjoying it on PS3). I'm guessing this can be accomplished with gibbed (which I'm checking out now).
Any suggestions on a bypass that gets me the goodies?
