I've done very little research so far on this game, and am trying to get my questions answered finally before release. Does anyone have a good answer for this? Thanks in advance.
Just how different will the game be on Last Gen hardware?

Gameplay should be identical.
Worse graphics, obviously. I don't know, maybe you could compare BF4, which uses the same engine, on the different systems? Here's a video that does that
I think there might be fewer background NPCs in some areas. Not sure if that's confirmed or just speculation.

Gameplay will be the same. But the game will look worse, have poorer performance and will. more likely than not, suffer from longer loading times.
Like Wulfram said, I also believe there are fewer background/ambient NPCs in some areas, though I can't remember where that was said, or if it was confirmed.

Hm I see. Are the PC specs released yet? Not sure if I want the Last Gen version, but I will not drop money for a black brick just for this.

Yea no, I've dropped enough money on this current PC to try and keep up with relatively modern games. tbh PC isn't my platform of choice for Dragon Age, but seems to be the best option unless the specs are beyond what it can handle.

No, they didn't say Monday but in the week that starts on Monday the 6th of October. So in other words the requirements will be made known somewhere from Monday till Friday or even possibly not until next Sunday.
Hey all, quick update.
We are planning to announce the PC specs on the week of Monday October 6th. Its just the way it worked out this time.

Completely unplayable i'm afraid. You have my deepest apologies. In fairness i'm more scared of how previous generations have made current generation copies less impressive.

Depends what Kind of last gen.
It has been confirmed that background npcs, draw distances and fidelity will be lesser.

What they said ages ago in the Game Informer features is that the game will play the same between the different versions, but fidelity will be different. So if your only concern is the story and you don't pay a lot of attention to graphics you might not really notice that much of a difference. if you are the type of person that can easily see a minor improvement to the graphical quality of a game the difference will probably be huge.
What I remember from various articles and forum posts
-There won't be any difference in number of quest givers
-The story of the game will be the same
-Less polygon count in objects for the older consoles.
-Could be less background NPCs for the older consoles, but probably dependent on area.
-Probably longer load times for the older consoles

Because not everyone bought into the hype of Next Gen consoles with lackluster games, or have the money to blow on super gaming PCs.
But you will eventually get either a PS4 or Xbone anyways. Most new AAA games wont even be on old gen like Advanced Warfare, Halo 5, Mass Effect 4, etc....
I mean buying a new console isnt like buying a new car.

To assume I will eventually buy one, is a bit much. So far I have zero reason to buy one. They offer nothing that I desire at present. A single game is not worth buying a console, worst case I'll either skip the game completely, as I am not really that excited, or simply grab the last gen version out of curiosity.

Current gen:
Kinda peeved that the game's final build doesn't look nearly as graphically impressive as that. This has been happening WAY too often these past few years. Devs show off how visually amazing their game is at E3, and then the game is nearing release and it's received one hell of a graphical downgrade. Let me count the number of games just off the top of my head that have done this:
Uncharted 3
Aliens: Colonial Marines
Dark Souls 2
Watch Dogs
Infamous Second Son
Even the highly anticipated Witcher 3 had recently been discovered to have a big downgrade:

Now the same thing is happening to Dragon Age: Inquisition. And you just watch, I'm willing to bet that the same thing is gonna happen to Batman: Arkham Knight. Mark my words.
I understand great graphics don't make a great game. But it only becomes very irritating when the final product doesn't look nearly as beautiful as what they advertised earlier. This has been happening WAY too often, to the point where most gamers are gonna catch on and know from this point forward that these games just aren't gonna look as visually impressive as what they show at E3 or whatever convention they go to. It's becoming the norm, and it shouldn't.
Next gen indeed.

It better not be that different, I am not here for console supremacy.
I am saving my coins for other things so . . .

Has there been any mention in terms of land size in Inquisition? I've been trying to keep myself away from any vids/news articles for this game in case I spoil something. I never got round to playing a DA game on the PS3 so I'm not at all sure how big they were.

Having played DA on PS3 up to this point, they were not much different from the PC versions, aside from the lack of Tactical Camera and Mouse and Keyboard.

You probably don't need a super gaming PC anyway. My budget PC plays Battlefield 4 quite nicely on very high settings (60+ fps in campaign, 1080p). I bet a €600 PC with a Mantle GPU could outperform current-gen consoles.
#25
Posté 05 octobre 2014 - 02:33
Well it probably could. But I don't have a Mantle GPU and I doubt i will be getting one, as it would require several other upgrades to support such a GPU. which is not in the budget.
