i picked up Mass Effect summer of 2008, and played through it and beat it, it was great. i loved it.
just recently, i went back to check out what i still needed to do to create a more complete game, and it turns out i had lost many of my achievemnts. in 2008 when i first got the game, i beat it all the way through, got paragon, completed the love sub plot with Liara T'soni, completed virmire, feros, and noveria (as it is necessary to complete the game) and got a few of the 150 kills with 'x' weapon. also the Charismatic achievemnt.
when i went back to play again a few days ago, i looked at my achievements, and it said only 4/49 were completed. those 4 being 'Search and Rescue', 'Medal of Exploration', 'Spectre Inductee', and 'Distinguished Service Medal'.  this boggled my mind, and so i played from my last save point and beat Saren's final stage again, completing the game, which got me 'Medal of Honor' and 'Tactitian'.  nothing more.

how can i not have gotten the achievemnts of completing feros, virmire, and noveria and still have completed the game? i distinctly remember having gotten these achievemnts, along with the Paragon achievemnt, which i do not have, but yet when i look at my character's info, i have about 80% of the Paragon points, yet no achievemnt.  any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

It could be that you played the game offline and got all those achievements offline while at the same time recovered your gamertag at a friends Xbox for playing online and earning some other achievements online. If you then later recover your gamertag on your console all achievements that are were earned offline will be lost because you will only get your gamertag as it is online.

Short version:

offline achievements will be lost if you get other online achievements on another console.

Masterkajo hit the nail on the head because that's exactly what happened to me. I played offline then recovered my Gamertag to a buddies xbox for some co op gaming. Problem was my dumb ass went home and continued playing mass effect as well as many other games offline without ever logging back into xbox live. So when I finally did log onto live it made me recover my gamertag from my buddies xbox back to mine and in the process it erased all the acheivments I had earned while playing offline.

Basiclly what your doing is playing on a GHOST profile, Your online xbox live gamertag is the only one that truely matters so if you recover your name to a friends xbox like I did, anything you do offline will be over written once you log into xbox live again. So always make sure if you recover your gamertag to anyone else's xbox, you don't play any offline games until you've logged back into live and recovered your TRUE gamertag back onto your xbox. I suggest you invest in a memory card, helps to avoid this problem cause you can just move your profile back and forth on it.

Now to solve your mass effect problem. Like I said I went through the exact same thing. Because of this I lost all the acheivments for story/planet missions, specter status, paragon, complete majority of game, rich, scholar, dog of war, geth hunter, and rifle expert. In the games mind you have these achievements so thats why its not reawarding them. So becuase of this we have to break the game, or better yet outsmart it.

Feros, virmire, and noveria along with any other MAIN STORY LINE PLANET MISSIONS, the spectre status achieve, and the landing on an uncharted world achieve are all easy to get again. Simply start up a new mass effect sheppard or start a 2nd playthrough with your first and and do the missions again and they should unlock for you. I think the love/sex one works the same way, just do it again and it should pop up. Playing through the game a 2nd time will also give you the chance to pick up a couple of the other ones to like complete 2 playthroughs, the squad alley ones, and othe misc achievements. Easy right, good cause the next ones get a little trickier.

Remember me telling you about investing in a memory card, well this is where having one comes in handy. To get the rich, scholar, paragon/renagade, and complete magority of game achievments you have to first make sure you have a couple save files. Now go to your dashboard or the my xbox channel. Go all the way over to the my systems box, last one to the right. Click on it and it should open up a bunch of crap like systems settings and so on. One option should be memory, click on that and it will have alll your saved 360 stuff there. It's broken down by themes, pics, demos, etc. Go to the one that says games(its your saved files from all the games you've ever played on 360). Click on it and go through it till you find mass effect, click on it and you should have differant files. If you have ME DLC then they'll appear there as well. You should have an auto save file, as well as other manual save files.

Now theres one more file under mass effect and this is the one we're looking for. Its called game profile. This is file that contains all your mass effect info from all your played characters(sheppards), stats, time, ranks/levels and most importanly choices (this is the file ME 2 keys in on when you import your sheppard to that game) Make sure you have a memory card inserted before doing this, but select the file and move it to the memory card. You may wanna move or copy a couple saves files too just in case. Once you have the gamer profile off your harddrive COMPLETELY, remove the momery card. Make sure to leave at least 1 save point on your hard drive.

Now here's where the fun begins, boot up mass effect, and go to load game. During this process it should create a NEW GAME PROFILE, this is ok and no big deal. It will load the save point. Now you simply do something in the realm of whatever achievement it is you're trying to get. For example for the rich one I already had well over the million requirment but the achieve wouldn't pop so I went to a vender and bought an item, nothing happened, so then I sold an item and it popped "RICH". To get scholar I simply talked to the last race of aliens I needed to study and that activated the achieve. renagade/paragon same thing, simply do a mission that needs you to make a good guy or bad guy choice, once making my paragon choice and completion of the mission(where the little xp thing pops up on the side along with the paragon or renagade points you just earned) my paragon achieve popped. And last the complete majority of game, I like you already had completed most of the game already, so I simply went out and did another quest/mission and the achievement popped up afterwards. After getting the achievements make sure you delete the new gamer profile, and move your orginal mass effect profile from the memory card and back onto your hard drive.

I hope these work for you, feel free to post again and let me know how things turned out, oh and I'm still working on the geth hunter, dog of war, and weapons expert ones but hopefully I can crack the code on reunlocking those before ME 2 comes out.

Johnny Thomas: You, sir, are a genius. I have been struggling with this concept (albeit for ME 2), where the achievements were glitched and would not unlock because the achievements were seemingly tied to my profile itself, even when I moved the game saves. I'm going to try this theory as soon as I get home. Thanks again.

It's similar what could happen to me.

If i was to connect my old xbox to xbox live....My gamerscore would be 10000.  So if I done that and lost my new xbox.  I would lose my 40000 gamerscore :P

Don't know if they have resolved this issue now.  but i lost 2000 gamerscore a while back because of this

Yeah its not an issue of being resolved its an issue of education, they should really have a warning or at least a better warning description somewhere when you go to play offline like "are you sure you want to play offline?" "if you have played your profile on another machine that was connected to the internet you may lose any progress you have made. To be sure please recover your gamertag now by connecting to LIVE or with a Memory Unit transfer"

This same thing happened when me and my Brother lived together in college. we both lost a bunch of Halo 3 achievements but were able to play back though the game and get them. however he lost quite a few Mass effect achievements but when he played though again he didn't get them. like you said how can you possibly have beat the game twice (once on hardcore) and not have any of the 150 weapon kill achievements and they are easy ones like 150 organic kills. Hes beaten the game on hard and insane since this debacle. I just hope he hasn't already deleted everything he has because we basically gave up yesterday then i happened to find this today with some better keyword searches. just a question but any update on those 150 kill achieves? I'll let you know if my brother is able to get them done.
