Do the Allied Supply Crates affect anything at all besides XP?

No idea... you could probably test it by playing through the game and not giving the soldiers anything at all. If the humans don't have any enchanted weapons in cutscenes and the elves aren't wearing "ancient elven armor," that would probably answer your question... I always thought it had an effect though. They make it sound like it will... on the other hand, the mages seem to die very quickly no matter how many runes I give them...

I just took a cursory look at the interaction with the turn-in crates in the toolset and there doesn't seem to be any indication there of what results from the donations... but I never realized before now... you can give NUGS to the werewolves? ![]()
You shove a nug in the box. It urinates.

Ugh. I didn't know you could put the nugs in the supply crates. I did know you can give one to the werewolf emissary, but a box full of peeing nugs? How appetizing for them. ![]()

Unknown if they affect your troops, but they do give your Warden XP, in small amounts.
(It's 10XP for everything except coins to the Redcliffe soldiers. Coins vary from 10 XP for the first option to a whopping 750 XP for 30 gold.)

You can't. The claim is that they eat nugs, but if you come up from Orzammar with a nug in your invo, nothing happens.

I mean, it's alright for me to toss a few malachites their way, but 30 gold is a lot to just toss into the garbage.
I stopped worrying about money ever since I did the Golems of Amgarrak on hard and got the reaper's cudgel. Thing sells for like 350 gold, and it's in your invo at the beginning. That plus a lot of the other DLC stuff that's free download pretty much ended my money troubles.

That can be doubled if playing a Dwarven Noble, and using Gorim as your vendor. A few more coins in which to use against your dear, sweet, and loving Brother back in Orzimmar.

If they do affect the troops, then it's not to a significantly noticable degree.

Yeah, but I've usually ended DA:O with around 400. Then, just throwing away 30 doesn't seem so bad.

Although, if you import to Awakening, all your gold is taken with you, and having all of that gold does help with starting out in it.

Well, it's a darned shame they didn't implement what is in the toolset, because getting that incontinent nug message for a donation would be a VERY compelling reason to side with the woofs. ![]()

True, though I find the gold drops so well in Awakening I never have to worry about that. There's only a handful of really expensive items worth buying - most are found or crafted by Master Wade - and enemies are much more generous.

This must be a PC thing. I've never heard of it 0_o

You want an dead on answer? No. I tested it. I played the game once were I donated an load of stuff to the crates. The final army is EXACTLY the same as if I had donated nothing. Same health, same gear, same weapons. Nothing changed. So the best you can do is to donate to reach level cap.
I would advise you to simply donate a lot of elfroots. It's way cheaper then wasting gold for the humans. Then just sell gems and runes for extra money.

That's a shame... I'll probably still donate just for the sake of the rp. The human forces sound like the biggest investment, but I never give them much coin anyway... maybe about 5 sovereigns at most. I always figured if the elves, dwarves, and mages were maxed out, the humans could be a bit on the weak side and we'd still be fine. And we always were! Too bad none of that actually mattered. xD

It took me a dozen or more plays to finally even notice them. After that I started to save extras of gems and runes I didn't use. The box in Warden's keep was especially useful for that. I never noticed any other purpose to them (my armies were no more or less equipped than if I had never given them anything in the first place) except for small amounts of xp per turn in and for RP purposes.

Underworld armour - the hat alone nets over a grands worth of gold. I once went into Awakening with over 4000 gold. (how mercenary of me)

Yeah, I stock the elves with as much freebie herbs as I can find. XD One of those xp-cheats that somehow doesn't make me feel guilty because the devs said it's ok...
I do prefer to keep my gold for Awakenings and resent giving it away to do no good for the troops, but the main reason I don't feel like contributing is because I've never employed them in any of my games anyway. The first full playthrough I kept wondering when to call for them... and then it was over and they'd had a free ride AND my hard-earned gold and gems. If they want to just sit there in my upper-right screen corner partially blocking my view the whole, critical, world-crisis time, they aren't getting paid extra for it!

Im pretty sure that giving stuff in the allied supply crates improves the equipment of your allies in the battle of denerim
