Yeah, for me, the romances aren't a big enough draw to role play a character that I'm not initially drawn to. So, for me, I'll never play enough straight females to romance Cullen and Blackwall. Maybe I can playthrough once as a lady Inquisitor, but there's just no way I'm going to do two of them, which means that I'll never play both of those romances. If they were bisexual, I'd definitely romance them both.
That's just me though.
Yeah, romances alone aren't a deciding factor for me if I want to play male or female. If I'm playing a female character, it's because I really do want to play a female character (and Sumalee Montano's voice would be a huge bonus). I wouldn't be picking one for the sake of romancing Cullen or Blackwall. I could form a really close friendship with either one with my male Inquisitor and that would be fine. The romance is just the extra perk.
With DA2 having characters designed to be ambiguous, there was finally an LI that was like me since I identify as such. But now with the 'real representation' of the set sexualities, I get left in the cold with none whatsoever.
You could argue that Cole may qualify as someone ambiguous, although completely non-sexual because of his characterisation, but I suppose that doesn't count because he's not a love interest. I don't see why not they'll add someone like that in later installments, but like I've said before, there are a lot of people who are just unaware and it's a matter of delivering that kind of character with a good deal of sensitivity and respect alongside homosexual, bisexual, pansexual, heterosexual, and asexual characters.
Hopefully there will be a nice, handsome, gay, human, knight in shining armor in DA4.
I'm still holding out for that character. A noble appearance, a gravelly baritone voice, a deep chest, with a daring streak.
Or perhaps even in a different case of a subdued gay male character who does not have to be oozing conventional masculinity to be considered "bad-arse".
Still waiting for dat dwarf romance.
I could dig up the Gaider post on why he wouldn't want to write a dwarf romance, but it'd just be depressing
and its too late
Well, he got better looking, so yay!
I do think his personality has changed between the two games. I am still unsure about the fanaticism he's inspired.
Yeah, I look at those 3000+ pages and the only word that comes to mind is, "Why?"
I could never romance him. My first exposure to him was through a female dwarf warrior playthrough and he just seemed fanatical. It's left a terribly bad taste in my mouth that I just can't get over. I've tried to see if from the view points of others and I sorta get why they like him. But I just see red when I see him. Oh well, to each their own. I like his feathery shawl though, lol. I'll gladly take that. ![]()

I think they shy away from blonde due to the fact that hair is obviously difficult for them to do (and blonde just magnifies the flaws in hair appearance). Hopefully their hair skills will improve by DA4. I would support a beautiful female companion with fabulous blonde hair.
But yeah, the gay knight in shining armor. We've never had that.

He did... that makes it harder lol
But anyway... we are not fanatics. We are a community. We've built up friendships that span years. That is why the thread is so long. I've known some of those guys and girls since 2012-ish, and some of them have known each other since DAO came out. The thread at present has a lot of newcomers, people interested in Cullen now that he's a romance option, and that's great. But I think it is unfair to suggest we're crazy or fanatical just because we all like the same character and are excited he's finally been given a big part.

I think Sera's blonde hair looks pretty well done this time, in terms of color. I too would like another blonde in DA4.

can we get a Ice King manipulative, confident and self assured straight male to go with the other two while we're at it?
But yeah I'm surprised neither Cass, Blackwall or Cullen were bi at least =/

the color is alright, the style leaves me reaching for a bag

I don't see why not, but no filthy knife ears ![]()
I could care less about hair color, and definitely not about race, and to some degree, I could even care less about looks. (I was iffy on Solas at first, but the more I learned about him, the more I wanted to romance him........ alas.)
I like that Sera is a lesbian. Adorable, cute girl who happens to be lesbian... not a stereotype
I would give anything to have a noble knight kind of guy be bi or gay. Personally, I don't think it's going to happen because this is the team that's already created the promiscuous bisexual character three times in a row, so it's like they aren't aware of these kinds of things sometimes. This team seems to buy into tropes...? I'm not sure... not consciously, obviously. I know they are all good people trying to do the best they can. But all three older, more serious guys were made straight. The dashing mage is gay and the promiscuous bedhopper is bisexual. Okay... you can do better, BioWare

tropes aren't like cliches, every character ever, in the history of humanity, falls under one trope or another, that doesn't make them cliches

Don't forget Solas! Really, since they only had time and money to add two gender- and race-gated romances, I feel they should've just done like... bi and elf-only Solas and maybe bi and human-only Vivienne. For fairness' sake. Although it's been said that Viv has genuine story reasons for being unavailable.

I assume that Steelcan would like long and flowing.
Hell I'd be thrilled to have flowing Beyonce hair in DA4. Lol.

That's a little harsh and a bit of a pity.
My interest in different race romances is more a curiosity thing. How the different cultures and upbringings manifest in both friendships and romances. There's also the matter of characterization. A lot of people seem to want to romance Varric because of who he is, not just what race he is.
Sure, if he doesn't want to do female dwarf romances because he's afraid they look too young then I get it. That's a whole other moral issue. Though, could be rectified if they designed them to look like mature adults, just saying.
As for Qunari/kossith females, that's a little hypocritical. My apologizes to Gaider. But we have Bull. And I'm sure he has depth, but everyone from the fans to BW employees themselves are treating him as though his character is entirely sexual. If they wanted to do a "I'm questioning my identity as a Qunari" story arc, it could have been male or female. Except the female wouldn't have the "how big is the D" discussion as well as the "ridethebull" hashtag. I would love a female Qunari romance with deep characterization. Give me an in-depth look at what it is to be a Tal-Vashoth perhaps, through her eyes, y'know?
I don't think it's a matter of fetishes as much as it is desire for racial variety. But that's just my opinion.
I assume that Steelcan would like long and flowing.

No kidding. He seems like a huge joke. Every tweet from FPJ and the devs about package size and rough sex makes me wince. How romantic... NOT lol

that's harsh don't you think?

I hope that occurs in DA4

Solas yeah he doesn't look so bad in the more recent screenshots XD But yes finally a scientist like male LI!
I hope vivi's reasons are she has someone already. Her already being in a happy fulfilling relationship is something I really would prefer.

Who looked at a dude with grey skin, horns, ridiculously large muscles, and that accent and thought thatsmyfetish.jpg?

Yeah. I get it, it's fun, but I'm damn sure his character goes beyond sex and I would like them to show that. And that's what I want to see with our first Qunari companion and romance. If they're worried about people fetishizing (is that a word? idk) races, then maybe they shouldn't contribute to it so enthusiastically. If you don't like that for a female character, then don't do it to a male character either.

Oh come on now Steel. You know someone did. *eyebrow waggle*
