I will romance Iron Bull with some of my inquisitors, but yeah I find it odd that he's being portrayed in such a sexual light via tweets. Especially since fetishizing *female* Qunari was deemed a no-no and was the reason a female Qunari romance was not to be in the works.

Lol, I'm certainly not complaining. For once, there's a romance option that I can actually find attractive.
Oh come on now Steel. You know someone did. *eyebrow waggle*
lol fair enough

because sexualizing men isn't nearly as controversial

Exactly. It almost feels like a slap to the face, really.

I actually think that Iron Bull has a handsome face- in a rough, chiseled sort of way. But I could do with less uber-sexual tweets about him, and I hope there is more to him because I, like Curious Artemis, would like to see promiscuous characters not always being the bisexual ones.

This is true and it's a terrible double-standard. I'm a female and I don't like anyone being sexualized. We're people first.
I intend to romance Iron Bull for my third playthrough, but that's because I want to learn who he is, beyond the sex. I want to see how he interacts with a mage tal-vashoth who he is romantically interested in, given his background as a Qunari who now doesn't quite know who he is. That should be what they're selling. Not "he can please 14 partners at once" or however it was said.
People are going to sexualize characters regardless. That shouldn't be grounds to punish, per say, the rest of the fanbase.

Iron Bull, I assume, is getting this treatment because he's an outlier in the qunari belief and enjoys sexual activities. I mean, part of a description was 'I'll fight for what I see fit, have sex with everyone, and be on my way.' So the whole character is approached from a more sexual light than the qunari have been in the past.
It's the difference of 'sexualizing this one character' and 'sexualizing all characters of this particular type.'

If Iron Bull was female, though, I have my doubts that "she" would get the same treatment? I imagine a lot of people would more upset if a female Qunari was being discussed with so much sexual innuendo and such. I could be wrong. I wasn't around during Dragon Age II so I don't know if tweets like the ones being made about Iron Bull were made about Isabela.
Replacing him with a female Qunari is actually a good idea.

People probably would be more upset, and they would be right to be more upset because it would be blatantly sexist.
We'll have to wait and see, but I seriously doubt IB's sexual nature will be viewed very negatively. If he's judged by anything by characters it will probably be the fact that he's a qunari, and not his personality. Compare this to the way pretty much everyone treated Isabella in DA2, especially Aveline.
Again, we'll have to wait and see when the game comes out, but I would bet real money he wont be treated nearly as poorly for being promiscuous.
They live in a world of giant spiders, walking corpses, various demons, corrupted monsters, and flipping dragons. Pretty sure there are bigger fish to fry in Thedas.

Everyone? Aveline was the only one who had an issue with it, from what I can recall (and arguably Sebastian). I mean, Anders was swapping stories with her about the Pearl at one point, Bethany and Merrill bring up Isabela's past lovers as points of interest, Carver just tries to flirt with her, and Varric and Fenris don't do anything negative either.
It doesn't excuse what Aveline says, but Isabela does go out of her way to annoy Aveline and also be sexist, sexually harassing and body shaming to her. Few people seem to mention that.
now look what you've done, made me agree with Xil

Yeah they're pretty terrible to one another. So *shrug*

I end just not recruiting Isabela altogether.
I end just not recruiting Isabela altogether.
That's one way to solve it.
I wish you could at least ask her to leave at the end of her recruitment quest like Fenris. But nope =/
I think Artemis got it right. There is no correct answer. Hopefully you can someday get an ambiguous sexuality made that way for rep rather than players can pretend their LI is straight.
Hopefully.
Though I highly doubt people will see them as anything but very shy *insert their orientation here*. This applies to homosexuals and bisexuals as well as heterosexuals.
You could argue that Cole may qualify as someone ambiguous, although completely non-sexual because of his characterisation, but I suppose that doesn't count because he's not a love interest. I don't see why not they'll add someone like that in later installments, but like I've said before, there are a lot of people who are just unaware and it's a matter of delivering that kind of character with a good deal of sensitivity and respect alongside homosexual, bisexual, pansexual, heterosexual, and asexual characters.
I'd say Cole is asexual more than anything else. But yeah, just like people prefer to have a gay LI rather than just a gay character, the same thing applies for me.
I know. Doesn't make the wait any better though.

So it's sexist to have a female get that kind of attention, and yet it is fine to have a male get that kind of attention? Or am I misunderstanding you?
Yeah, for me, the romances aren't a big enough draw to role play a character that I'm not initially drawn to. So, for me, I'll never play enough straight females to romance Cullen and Blackwall. Maybe I can playthrough once as a lady Inquisitor, but there's just no way I'm going to do two of them, which means that I'll never play both of those romances. If they were bisexual, I'd definitely romance them both.
That's just me though.

I agree. Merrill should have been that way too.
Cullen is such an annoying NPC. On the one had, they did a number on making him conventionally attractive (though I think Dorian has him beat in that regard). On the other hand, his views in the old games are enough of a turn off that ... well ...
Yeah, he's kind of annoying, but I'm still one of those who are waiting for a m/m knight in shining armor type and, besides Alistair and his "licking a lamp pole in winter" comment, Cullen is as close as I thought we'd come to get one.
