Yeah, he's kind of annoying, but I'm still one of those who are waiting for a m/m knight in shining armor type and, besides Alistair and his "licking a lamp pole in winter" comment, Cullen is as close as I thought we'd come to get one.

I think Blackwall is closer actually. He seems to have a firm moral compass, more of a chivalric code than Cullen might have. Don't get me wrong; I'm a massive Cullen fan, but his indecisiveness and confusion in regards to politics and ethics make him fall short of the "knight in shining armor" model for me (but also make him an interesting and well-written character... love those shades of gray!)

EDIT: In any case, they're both straight, just like Alistair, so yeah lol

I see a theme going on with female LI, especially the straight ones. Alistair, Sebastian, Cullen, Blackwall. They're either knight in shining armor or some Prince Charming. Sigh... Why can't even one gay LI be like that?

Because a mage in Thedas is partially analogous to a homosexual male in our world. Being on the outside, fighting for their rights...yadda yadda. Though I too was wishing for Blackwall to be the m/m and be a templar I don't know his spec yet) because I feel like that would be an interesting relationship.

I think I would be less wary of Dorian if he looked like Blackwall :P But definitely it's the class and the age and the disposition that's also so appealing... sigh. One day we'll get a gay/bi male LI like that :)

Now I want a super jacked mage for no reason. He uses tree limbs instead of staves

Yea, I have trouble believing it's just coincidence.

Notice that in Dragon Age, the male love interests available to males are usually outcasts of some sort.

He's not dainty because he's over the top roided out. :(  I feel his proportions are way too exagerated to take him too seriously.  And I so crushed on the Arishok so this is despairing.

He's the DA version of James Vega...VA and all!

I'm all for a shinning knight. To this day I don't get the Alistair is straight aspect of DA:O after that conversation. I was pretty sure Alistair was straight up coming on to my Warden. I mean, we have a conversation about virginity, his euphemism is licking lampposts and then he asks me if I've done it before? If I had that conversation IRL people would glare at me for being to overt in flirting.

Noting wrong with dainty, but I totally disagree with you there. Dorian appears to be well-built. Zevran was definitely buff. Just because he's short doesn't make him thin and dainty. Really the closest that we get is Fenris because of his build and anime-like hair, but I think face-wise he had pretty sharp masculine features and that voice (Gideon Emry, *sigh*) was not dainty in the least.

Granted, there was very little variety of body types between people of the same gender and race in DA:O. Aside from a couple or so NPCs, every male has chiseled muscles.

Gawd, Gideon Emery's voice does....things to me.

And yeah, Zev was deliciously well built. You gotta be kinda ripped to be a high level assassin like that.

Dorian too looks pretty well built for a mage as well. Maybe he got more exercise in Tevinter?

When I first saw Fenris, I was kind of "Meh," and then he spoke, and I was all "Read that phonebook to me Fenris, you read that phonebook now!"

Edit:

In hindsight, I get why teaching Fenris to read is a flirt. It's 'cause we have to listen to his voice. Obviously it's a flirt.

Exact same, and I'm not ashamed to admit it.

I know right?  I really want to ask his writer (who was that, btw?) what he/she was thinking with that line.  I guess that it was viewed from a lady warden pov, but still.  Having a male character refer to licking a lamp pole in a sexual conversation and then asking another male character character if he's done it before is about as homoerotic as you can get without coming right out and saying it.  It just makes the "I can't romance him" aspect sad.  However, as an unapologetic "straight guy flirter", I love the ability to have my gay warden flirt in an overt way with Alistair, even if it wasn't the writer's intention.

ETA:  I find Zev and Fenris to be too slight for my liking.  I much prefer a guy who falls somewhere between Blackwall and Iron Bull, so I do tend to think that the elves are a bit too thin for my taste.  I'm not sure "dainty" is the right word, but it's not far off in my opinion.

The only thing keeping me from romancing Alistair is the thought of how much more I'd like to romance him with a male Warden.

Yeah. I tried to do it with a female Warden and it just got weird. I couldn't even make it past Ostagar.
