The only thing keeping me from romancing Alistair is the thought of how much more I'd like to romance him with a male Warden.

I did a single romance playthrough with a lady dwarf (to get the achievement), but I didn't really enjoy it because I was so disappointed with Zevran that it just made it worse that Alistair's content wasn't available to my male Warden.

Ugh, why did Alistair have to be so goddamn perfect....

I know right?  I really want to ask his writer (who was that, btw?) what he/she was thinking with that line.  I guess that it was viewed from a lady warden pov, but still.  Having a male character refer to licking a lamp pole in a sexual conversation and then asking another male character character if he's done it before is about as homoerotic as you can get without coming right out and saying it.  It just makes the "I can't romance him" aspect sad.  However, as an unapologetic "straight guy flirter", I love the ability to have my gay warden flirt in an overt way with Alistair, even if it wasn't the writer's intention.

ETA:  I find Zev and Fenris to be too slight for my liking.  I much prefer a guy who falls somewhere between Blackwall and Iron Bull, so I do tend to think that the elves are a bit too thin for my taste.  I'm not sure "dainty" is the right word, but it's not far off in my opinion.

The thing that I don't get about that conversation, fundamentally, is that it's so strange as an M/F conversation. I would never hit on a girl that way. Not necessarily because it's overtly sexual or anything... it's just doesn't quite sound right. Plus, Alistair is so cute when he gets all "so-obviously-a-virgin-flustered" that it makes the whole scene annoying.

In terms of appearance, I prefer guys who are slimmer than I am, which makes my life a bit more difficult because I'm basically built like Zev (including height). Though funny enough I've never really cared about height unless the difference got to be a bit comical. This is why IB is just a lolnope for me.

I wonder if Gaider wanted to make Alistair available to male Wardens but things didn't turn out that way for whatever reason. Considering Mass Effect (1) with it's complete lack of M/M options and Jade Empire's Sky M/M romance being unavailable unless the Spirit Monk is basically a jerk to both Dawn Star and Silk Fox...it's not inconceivable.

Edit: Also Zevran's "I prefer women."

I think personality wise he sounds phenomenal. Except that I just can't conceive of him as attractive.

But I think in terms of representation, at minimum, he's great. It's good to have a guy who's (a) not straight and (B) strong, well-built, etc., basically the masculine stereotype.

To be honest, I kind of just want IB to be the bottom-iest bottom who ever bottomed, just as an inversion of other masculine tropes.

Yeah. I tried to do it with a female Warden and it just got weird. I couldn't even make it past Ostagar.

That's how I felt about Morrigan and my femWarden. The way she talked about men, I was 100% certain I'd get her out of those robes before the end of the game. lolnope :(

See, with Morrigan I get it, because it's not really her talking about men as much as it is her parroting what Flemeth tells her.

And I'm the opposite.  At 210#, it wasn't easy to find a burlier guy for myself.  (Spoiler:  I found him, though)  Thank goodness for the beefcake in DA: I, but I can understand that guys who like slighter guys might be a bit disappointed.

HA!  Favorite line of the night!

And, yes, I would love this too.  It's exactly the point that I keep wanting to make in all of the "how can a qunari be with a dwarf without splitting them in half?" conversations.

See, I'm disappointed, but then I have eyes and we have Dorian, so...

Every time someone says that Iron Bull "seems like" he'd prefer women, I really, really want to romance him with, like, ten different dudequisitors.

See, with Morrigan I get it, because it's not really her talking about men as much as it is her parroting what Flemeth tells her.

That's true, but.. still.

I suppose I like the thought of Morri/LadyWarden so much because her friendship/sisterly arc was so nice. If she came onto a female Warden like she does a male Warden, I... don't think I'd be as interested. :?

I really think we need IB to crack jokes about "not being sure he can take a dwarf again" but "he's willing to take it if the dwarfquisitor is willing to try".

I wish I could totally take full credit for that line, but it's the new bf's. We got asked a "who's the girl" question once and that was his reply about himself.

I'm not saying that I ever thought Morrigan should be straight. I just meant to say that I could understand why her attitude toward men didn't necessarily translate into an attraction to a particular gender, because she was so sheltered.

He sounds like a keeper!

This has been a really great, gay way to end the night.  Sometimes, I just need these conversations in my life.  (And I'll admit that I'm watching the Golden Girls as I type this)  Thanks for the fun gay chat.  Now I'm off to bed with a mug of Alka Seltzer Cold and Flu.......

And my real last post of the night is to say that I used the "I want that on a t-shirt" line the other day in response to a post that said, "It's not full nudity unless I see a penis"!  Gotta love the BSN!

On a tangent, I've been thinking about something. With DA:I moving toward greater representation, sexuality is moving closer to an actual aspect of in-setting identity. And I'm not sure how to think about that in terms of the world Bioware crafted, because in a lot of ways the very inclusive attitude seems to move against a definite and clear identity for people as not-straight.

I'm not sure how that works, setting-wise. On the one hand, it seems like each culture should have their own attitude toward identity (and own construction of it). On the other hand, in theory, at least, most places are relatively egalitarian about it (what we know about Tevinter aside, and my own view that the Qun should pragmatically be pro S/S relationships just because of how they allocate their people).

So this is all a bit all over the place, but I'm curious about people's views.

I mean, it kind of seems that each culture does have their own views on it. Rivain, Antiva, and Orlais seem not to quite give a damn about sexuality. And in Orlais, they care more if you're having sex with an elf than anythign else. Tevinter, Ferelden, and the Marches seem to be more on the conservative end of the spectrum by wanting it to be more discreet. I have no clue about Nevarra.

To me that's more about a view on sexuality rather than a stance on identity (i.e., to people identity as being of a particular sexuality).

Well, there's Zevran's reaction when a male City Elf sees Shianni and co. again. When he hears about your disastrous wedding, he says something like, "Did they find out you were--" and the toolset says "the answer to this is gay".

Dunno if that means much, but it's there.
